so they lied to us when they said they'd play Moving Pictures in its entirety

    Yes. And No.

If you want to be a legalistic, word parsing geek... yes, A, G, N lied.

If you want to be realistic and realize that all studio songs are changed so that they translate well into the live performance... You'll hear a live version of Moving Picture in its entirety.

File this under "get over it"

I got boned by the auction today and I am STEAMING mad, and will take ticketmaster and Live Nation to task for this.

Short story - myself and a friend co-ordinated the last 50 seconds of the auction, put in a HIGH bid that matched and won the auction! We get our notices and she is BANG on in the centre and I have the end crappy seats that were the MINIMUM bid.

No one at TM customer service can help, I ask for a supervisor, - we don't have one............OH REALLY

I have sent scathing e-mails on this!!!!!!!

I will be DAMNED if I am paying $580 for an end seat in 2nd row!!!!!!!! banghead.gif

    Which Venue?

Because those second row (pit) seats are just right/left of center at Verizon Amp Irvine.

But second row end seats at Universal Amp (Gibson) are considered obstructed view.

But is sounds like they hosed you. This is why I hate when Stubhub doesn't always list seat numbers.

  3. QUOTE (krlowe @ Apr 27 2010, 04:16 PM)
The fact they have a monopoly on the ticketing business is a whole other issue, but the fact remains they will only auction the best seats if people will buy them. There is a market, they make a big profit and so does the band.

No congressional hearing is needed, when tickets go on sale it's a crap shoot because there are the same number of good seats vs shitty seats.

A congressional hearing is needed on the damn computer programmers who get $5000 to design captcha decoding devices. I know how these things work. They are set to be in sync with GMT, and when 9:59:59 rolls around the system refreshes THOUSANDS of times until the 'broker' is first in line in which within "1 second" they have several PAIRS of GREAT seats pulled up before you can even put in the captcha word.

The programs are designed to watch the 'time' alottment and move on to the next screen to 'stall' and keep the tickets in their hands. When the broker isn't fast enough to decide weather he wants them, he loses them and that's when you get that occasional "great pair" 10-20 minutes in.

It's BULLSHIT. Everyone needs a fair shot.

    That's some great inside info.

I was wondering how it works, because when bad loge seats are coming up 2 minutes after the start of the sale, then better seats 20 minutes in, something is not right.

    Best Available = center seats.

I like how you get to pick your seats on some airlines. First come, first serve.

I like Stubhub because if you're patient and it's not a one-time only show, then you can get good seats a fair price. It's also great for getting last minute baseball seats--some stadiums even have a Stubhub pickup window.

You can totally spot the brokers who overprice their seats, and then the average fan listing just over face, and sometimes below.

I just bought 2 tickets for The MGM show in Las Vegas. Section Lower 11 row W for $450.00 from Stub Hub. I don't really care where I sit, I just want to be in the building. If I can trade up for better seats, great, if not, I'm happy with just being there. Ticket brokers are crooks, plain and simple.

    Oh sweet irony.

What do you think StubHub is?

I've sold tickets on Stubhub and I'm not a broker.

Oh sweet foot in mouth. tongue.gif laugh.gif cool.gif

  5. Here's what I don't get -- they are holding back a number premium tickets from the pool of tickets in the presale and public sale. How is this fair?

Also, I noticed that the VIP seats were coming up right and left of the stage -- some to the far side of the seating area. Those seats are close, but they are at a shitty angle.

The center section rows a-c are now part of this ticketmaster auction which means the VIP people never even had a shot at them.

  6. I don't spend a lot of time on the TM website, but with Rush I'm checking back often to see how sales are going and I noticed the AUCTIONS.

Ticketmaster is auctioning off Pit Seats to the Irvine Meadows show. And it's not an ordinary auction either. You have to bid on a number of seats simultaneously--I'm assuming that the highest bid gets the best seats and the second highest gets the next best seats.

    According to the AUCTION RULES:

    QUOTE
    Bid Ranking:
Bids are ranked first by the amount bid per ticket. In case of a tie, bids are ranked by the time that the bids were placed, with earlier bids for the same amount receiving priority. If other bidders later submit higher bids, your bid may be reassigned to a lower Ticket Group or you may receive no tickets at all, depending on the quantities of tickets in those bids and in the Ticket Groups.

Basically, they are seeing what the market will bear in terms of price and selling seats to the highest bidder.

How do they get away with this? What is the face value of the seat? It's a sliding price-point. The ticket now cost whatever you are willing to pay.

They already have a monopoly on event ticket sales, now they're edging in on broker/ebay territory. It seems like it's only a select number of tickets and maybe this is allowed under state law--but I can't see how.

The Spirit of Radio baby 1022.gif

    Agreed.

The Spirit of Radio is more than a Rush song. It's a Rock Anthem.

It was the perfect opener for the 80's shows and R30 -- defining everything that was/is RUSH--the musicianship, lyrics commenting on commercialism, the irony that the song became a rock radio favorite, the bridge section before the solo that's almost New Wave... The rock piano background running at the end...

I'd like to see them close out the Time Machine show with Spirit.

  8. QUOTE (EmotionDetector @ Apr 23 2010, 03:29 PM)
I'm about to take some flack, but...

How about retiring 'The Spirit of Radio'?

That would be like Led Zep not playing Rock and Roll or The Who not playing Won't Get Fooled Again.

It's more than a RUSH classic, it's a rock anthem.

Was wondering if anyone is going and if anyone was able to get lawn tickets.
I been to the same show at the same venue and lawn tickets didn't sell out. I think Live Nation is holding lawn tickets until more of the more expensive tickets sell out.

I tried to buy on Citicard pre-sale, on Live Nation pre-sale and on main sale, impossible to get lawn tickets, but I bet it's not sold out.

    Anyone?

That's a big amphitheater. Lawn seats may never go on sale.

In the thread asking who people would like to see for an opening act, most say none because Rush would have to do a shorter set. What if however, Rush had an opening act and still did a full, 3 hour set? I sure would be fine with it, but ONLY if Rush still played for 3 hours.

As long as it's not Rest for the Weary... tongue.gif doh.gif

  11. QUOTE (Queen of Megadon @ Apr 20 2010, 01:05 PM)
    Here's my question...

Been listening to MP on pretty much a loop, and, of course, YYZ falls pretty much right in the middle.

Now, in times past YYZ sets off the drum solo of the evening. If Neil lays into YYZ and then continues on to the full solo, does that then negate MOVING PICTURES IN ITS ENTIRETY?

Or, does Neil do YYZ, and then later (or before) we get the whole onslaught, without pieces of YYZ included? How does this change the solo?

This also begs the question where you think the album will fall within the show. Beginning? End? Middle?

    Just sharing some thoughts...discuss.

This is the time machine - I hope that means old school with a drum solo coming off YYZ.

  12. There's a lyric in Anthem -- Yet it was for me not you, I came to write this song...

Creative artists should serve themselves first, at the creation stage... However, at the performance stage commercial artists like rock bands need to balance their needs with those of their audience. Especially with $150 lodge tickets. Rush generally does a good job of doing this. They were proud of S&A and played a lot of it on the last tour. Two songs too many IMHO.

I've been to more than 20 Rush shows and the opening songs were Spirit, TS, and Limelight.

The Spirt of Radio is more than a Rush classic, it's a rock anthem. In the 80s it was always on in the top ten on the KLOS Memorial Day 500--usually next to Won't Get Fooled Again and Stairway to Heaven.

Tom Sawyer was the perfect opener for Vapor Trails. I remember sitting in the light rain at Irvine Meadows, having my doubts about going to 'Rock' concert again. Then the lights went down, the Stooges song came on, followed by the first chord of TS... I leaped out of my seat, every great memory of Rush came flooding back.

R30 - back to Spirit. Then closing with Limelight.

S&A - I believed they opened with Limelight as a way to connect the tours and a comment on where they are as band. Still struggling with creation of music vs. the live performance--one more creatively satisfying than the other.

Time Machine - a medley of songs from the debut album 2.gif Honestly, I have no clue. But Far Cry, for me, would not give the same physical rush feeling as Spirit, TS, or Limelight. **and now that I checked the set list archives, I see that I was at shows they opened with Big Money and Force Ten. Far Cry would feel like one of those -- Rush trying to redefine Rush with the big songs from the last album.

My point is, Rush has always opened with what I thought was the perfect song for the time and the tour... I have faith they will hit this mark again.

But seriously, Bastille Day in Kimonos would kick ass.

  13. Jeez, the amount of obscure RUSH tracks mentioned in this thread... Everyone trying to stand out as a 'true' fan who knows the real Rush...

    Rush for me is:

    La Villa

    Xanadu

    Closer to the Heart

    Analog Kid

    Working Man

Nothing esoteric about: "They call me the working man."

Although some are excited about MP -- keep in mind 5 of those songs were played on the S&A tour. And when the time Machine says 1990's, I'll be going to the head. Not the best decade for Rush.

  14. QUOTE (OldRod @ Apr 19 2010, 09:10 AM)
Speaking of Stubhub... I just checked it out for the first time. I notice they have tickets to the KC show for sale there already. How can they do that? Even the first Citi-presale hasn't happened yet?

    I've noticed that too.

I would bet it's ticket brokers trying to set prices.

If the average fan logs on to Stubhub wanting to dump a few seats, and he sees that the section he has is selling for $350 -- he'll list his tickets around that price. Big mistake. Stubhub is mostly a buyers market. Look at how many tickets are still listed the day before the show.

I've had some experience selling on Stubhub. The "buy 4 and sell 2" has both worked and failed for me in the past. I've been lucky to pay for my seats and, a few times, lost money when tickets didn't sell.

My advice -- don't get greedy. Figure out what your tickets cost you, face + fees, add on 10-12% for stubhub fees and your time, and list them.

If you're holding great seats for U2-- or a sold out RUSH show, then you might be able to make some money.

Buying from stubhub -- if you see someone lowballing or selling below face, don't hesitate. Those seat will be gone while you're digging your CC out.

do u need a parent to attend a concert? cuz i'm thinking that you need a guardian or parent just to get in the venue? anyone? tongue.gif

my mom pulled our station wagon up to the L.A. Forum and dropped me and my buddy off on the curb and said: "Be right here at 11." It was the Signals tour and I was 14.

Looking back, that seems crazy... maybe 16-year-olds.

    Anyway.

Check curfew laws around the venue. Some cities can be strict. But if you're over 12, you shouldn't need a parent to go a show. Should a parent send a 13-14 year-old to a show alone?

I was 19 and I got paid (a free ticket) to take a bunch of 13 year olds to Def Leppard.

  16. QUOTE (tripdad @ Apr 20 2010, 07:31 PM)
When I finally got some decent tickets to come up this morning - 35 minutes into trying - I ended up getting three tickets that I was happy with. When I was completing the order I did not see the ticket confirmation that was at the top of the web page and only saw the information to add the T Shirt and water bottle. So after completing that I did not see a ticket confirmation - only the t shirt combo order. So I freaked! I checked my email for confirmation and only saw the tshirt order come through.

So I went back through the ticket ordering and after 10 minutes managed to get 17th row FLR L come up. So I grabbed those, but found I had to use a different credit card (which now makes sense). When I go to the same page with the tshirt order I took more time to look it over and saw the ticket confirmation at the top. Said "Uh oh" and then went to my Music Today account inforamtion and low and behold - 2 separate orders for 3 tickets each.

Now I find myself with 3 extra tickets, almost $1000 on my credit cards, and a bit of a pissed off wife!

Going to try and contact Music Today to cancel one of the orders, but they clearly say all sales are final. Second choice is to find three more buds to go which is unlikely since I am coming from Cleveland. Third - if anyone is interested in them - PM me - face value of course!. Last option is Stub Hub or something like that.

Get them up on stubhub ASAP -- list them just above face value and you'll sell them. And bring down the prices for your venue.

Nice! I was trying to buy some Irvine tickets for a friend and got completely skunked. sad.gif Did you buy those tix as a block of four?

Damn! I'm jealous. I'm in the lodge DD right behind you.

    I was Orch 2, row E for R30.

These tickets are so expensive--150 face!!

How are the terrace seats? Is the lawn better?

Just asking any veterans of Rush shows at this venue.

    Thanks in advance!

    I love Irvine Meadows!!

I saw what I consider the Best RUSH show ever -- R30, when Jack Black took the stage during 2112, stripped down to his underwear and climbed on top of the washer/dryer to strike the Rush Man pose.

    Classic.

I've seen RUSH from the lawn (Presto) and mid-lodge (Vapor Trails)... It was always a great show!

I just scored some DD-lodge from MT presales -- wow, are they expensive. Too expensive.

  19. QUOTE (Sgt.D @ Apr 20 2010, 04:19 PM)
Can someone explain to me the difference between someone breaking the rules to scalp tickets and someone doing whatever they can for themselves to find ways around the rules such as the Citi presale? Selfishness is selfishness and breaking the rules does not help anyone or the effort to try to make things better for fans.

This is a rock concert we're talking about right?

    Which 'rules' are these?

It's against the rules to smoke pot at a concert and for minors to consume alcohol in the parking lot.

It's against the rules to sell tickets outside a venue.

It's against the rules to record or videotape a concert.

It's against the rules to wait for the event staff person to leave his post so you can move to a closer seat.

It's against the rules to hurl a half-filled beer at the stage when band is 45 minutes late going on.

It's against the rules for a woman to lift her top and reveal her breasts in public.

Oral copulation can be against the rules.

It's against the rules to urinate in the parking lot.

For the record, I've never videotape or recorded a concert. Nor have I ever lifted my top.

I remember back in 1985 there was the Phil Collins 'No Ticket (Jacket) Required' concert at Irvine Meadows. A number of people trudged through the old Lion Country Safari all the way around to the backside of the lawn and climbed over the fence. One of them told the tale of falling into an old animal trap and having to climb out.

I do remember when some of them reached the back fence, people inside the concert (paying customers) told them when the coast was clear so they could climb over. Why would the paying customer aide the freeloaders covered in weeds and dirt? Because that's Rock and Roll baby?
