I love love LOVE Bruce.This music is incredibly well written adn the music, while the antithesis of Rush (still my favorite band), just hit's me somewhere. I can't get enough. 70s Bruce was perfect, 80s Bruce is OK. 90s Bruce is terrible, but there's not a single band I like where I don't like at least some of their stuff. And since The Rising he's been doing great stuff again.

 

And dear god, he is INCREDIBLE live.

 

But I never really understood my taste in music. It doesn't make sense, even to me. My favorite musical artists: Rush, Devo, The Decemberists, Parliament/Funkadelic,Stevie Wonder, Bruce. None of them (except for p-funk and stevie) have anything in common. What can I say?

So I understand asking for a refund. If my concert at Jones Beach gets rained out and they offer a substitution instead of a refund I'm not going to be able to go because I have to go back to school. And that's going to suck.

 

But I don't understand why they're liable for the travel expenses. If it was simply a normal rain storm the show probably would have gone on, that's generally what happens with rain or shine shows. But when there's strong winds blowing rain onto the stage, there's simply NO WAY to guarantee a safe show. It is, in practice, impossible to waterproof all that equipment completely, and if it's not waterproof and it gets wet, it's unsafe. There's really no way to deal with wind blowing onto the stage. This is something that Live Nation could not control, and undoubtedly they're taking a huge loss as well.

 

While their ability to grant a refund is well within their control (and i certainly think they should), their inability to make the show happen on that specific night was not in their control, and thus, as much as I dislike Live Nation, I don't feel they should be liable for travel.

 

That's just how it appears to me.

I think it really just depends on the venue. I personally prefer indoor venues just because the ones near me (Madison Square Garden, which has great sound, and Radio City, which is just fabulous) are quite good and very easy for me to get to (just hop on the subway!) while the outdoor arenas (Jones Beach which is a hellhole and PNC which isn't bad but is quite out of the way) simply don't measure up. But if I lived in, for instance, Denver, I'd certainly want Red Rocks over any kind of arena. That place is spectacular.

Yeah, I couldn't get great seats either, at Jones Beach. The ENTIRE top price level of tickets seemed to just not be on sale at all. They can't possibly auction them ALL off, can they?

I think it was about $110 for 7th row center at PNC last tour. I sure thought it was worth it, it's probably the best time I've ever had. Still I wouldn't spend much more than that.

They run a business, and they're trying to make as much money out of it as they can, like most businesses. That's the whole point of business. If you can't pay for the tickets, someone else can - or else they wouldn't be charging this much. These are the harsh realities of life, but it's pretty much what capitalism is based on.

 

I mean I'd love to get front row seats at Jones Beach, but I don't happen to have $350 bucks lying around. Sucks for me, but if I was touring and I could rake in the cash, I wouldn't hesitate to do it.

 

Also, as has been said, tours are VERY expensive to run, and are the main source of income for bands now that recordings don't sell like they used to.

Last songs in general: Anything You Want Me To Do by Stevie Wonder on bass and The E Street Shuffle by Bruce Springsteen on guitar.

Me and a friend managed to get there on the Long Island Railroad and then a bus. But the bus wasn't running when the show ended so we had to get someone to pick us up.

The lawn at PNC is merely OK, and the upper deck at Jones Beach is a terrible concert experience. Half the time it seems like the wind is carrying the sound away before it gets to you.

I've found that there is little reliable public transportation to PNC. As an NYC teenager who couldn't drive two years ago I found it was almost impossible to get there without a car.
