Saw and photographed Marillion in Manchester a few nights ago....Superb gig..
My answer to the question though would have to be Neil Young

QUOTE (MMCXII @ Dec 4 2011, 01:45 PM) QUOTE (Wartypig @ Dec 4 2011, 12:34 AM) Photographed them with the orchestra the other night and they were outstanding .. Orchestra?? they're coming with an orchestra? that'll be cool!
anyone seen them in recent years? Gillan's voice holding up? what's Steve Morse Like?
Ian Paice!!
Gillans voice isn't what it used to be , but the show was amazing...Never known anything so loud in the pit apart from Airbourne....Not sure if the tour will feature an orchestre , but this'll give you an idea of how they sound with one
Highway Star

QUOTE (Tony R @ Nov 24 2011, 09:58 AM) Sigh. It's all a matter of personal taste.
I'd take Voyage of the Acolyte, Spectral Mornings, Darktown and To Watch The Storms over any of those listed by GW. Hackett hasn't got the "profile" of Gabriel or Collins but in rock terms I much prefer him.Totally agree...Hackett hasn't got the profile because he's stayed true to his love of music and hasn't gone the way of cheesy pop twaddle or cheap Motown covers ..
I'd take Prarie Angel/A Place Called Freedom over anything Collins , Banks ,Gabriel, and Rutherford have released solo apart from Here Comes The Flood perhaps.

The hair is atrocious though.pssst - I think you're favoritism is showing
'So'
'Up'
'Face Value'
'No Jacket Required'
'Smallcreep's Day'
^ there's nothing in Steve's catalog (and I love much of it dearly) that can stand up to that lot
That has to be the joke of the day
do I need to say 'dead serious' again?
You sir need a re-wire and a shrink
