Alright, 5.698 million and not a penny more.

So hard to pick just one. How about, what are the best five songs from Permanent Waves? That would be easier to answer.

I've been wanting to know that too. Maybe my favorite off of Hold Your Fire.

I've met a couple of other musicians who like and enjoy to play it. So we have been kicking around the idea of just doing their material. I think most people call that a tribute band. I was wondering if anyone else on the forum has ever done that. How did it work out? What kind of gigs did you go after and get? How was crowd response? Just trying to get a feel whether or not this is plausible.

QUOTE Have you seen the new Merlin Olsen model? It's fantastic
I bet that one really screams. Does it come in a left hand?

Nice Kiefer Sutherland model. I've been searching all over the Guitar Center website and I'm lost, because I'm ready to order my Christopher Walken model.

Definately the best new comic I've heard in like ten years! He is so brilliant and hilarious. They're have a been a few comics over the past decade or so that I think are good, but none as good as Eddie. Cake or Death?

I'll wait for it to come on HBO if I see it at all. After Batman begins, I just really hate Christian Bale and won't pay anything to see him.

About as close to the original as you can get. Someone mentioned the vocals weren't close enough. Geddy's vocals are the most unique part of their sound and noone will ever be able to copy it, IMO. In that light, it was a good job of a cover.

It's a tie for me Time Stand Still and Mission, but I voted for Time Stand Still.

Alex runs Palmer speaker simulators, too. That's what the audience is hearing the P.A. Alex just uses his cabinets as stage volume monitors. So Geddy thought that why can't I also have a wall of things I don't really need behind me too. I can't find the original quote, but it was something like that.

David is definately one my favorite guitarists. He's got the #1 tone for me. I've been listening to Pulse lately and have really been hoping to see him live. I heard that he has gone into a kind of semi-retirement. Has anyone else heard this? Anyone know if and when he'll tour again?

If you want a Sansamp to sound like Geddy, you may want to take a look at the RPM.

BUT if you want to go further, you could hope that Rickenbacker would reintroduce the 4080/6 or /12. In jetglo or white (or any color ). Take that and put gibson pickups in the guitar side and put a Badass on the bass side and you've got for all intents and purposes a more specific GL model Rick and then you can perform Xanadu and A Passage to Bangkok live in a more authentic way. That would be a better idea for a GL model. You could even make a 4080 with the bass neck on bottom and put a semi-hollow 12-string on top (JetGlo) and you'd have a Mike Rutherford model. Rickenbacker needs to pay me for my ideas or something.

They'd probably use the same template as the Chris Squire 4001 or the C64 model 4001. For example take A CS 4001 make it black instead of white. Sharktooth shaped inlay and a Leo Quann Badass bridge. That's about it to make it a Geddy Lee. It should be mentioned that Rickenbacker has sold a lot of Black Rick basses due people seeing/hearing Geddy in the first place. All he had done to "customize" his 4001 was to put the Leo Quann on it. If everyone who had a black 4001 and changed the bridge would have a GL model. And it doesn't have to just be a 4001, use a 4003 and put a Badass on it and there you go. That would be better, due to the more stable neck. Also the new 4003s have the vintage tone selector to emulate the 4001's capacitor for the horseshoe pickup. So that's how to make your own GL.

They are probably the best sounding basses I've found. They just naturally have a great tone. The only problem is I find it awkward to play. I have 77 4001 and love its tone, but there is no good place to rest your thumb (I don't like having to use the E string). I've also noticed there is less string tension than my other basses. It makes it hard for me to play really fast, because it literally feels like the strings don't reset fast enough (BTW I play with a relatively hard attack). The awkwardness of the instrument (including the neck shape) made Ged switch to the Jazz now. It's a trade off to me: Rick=tone, Jazz=comfort. So definately play one before you buy.

It goes like this Rickenbacker > Jazz > Wal > Steinberger.

It's good for the price. By itself it will not give you the warmth of all tube. It will probably better fit the Jazz to get a more authentic modern-Geddy sound. The 4003 should not need the Drive feature to get Ged's sound. The major drawback for me is that I find extremely noisy, especially in the rack. I don't know if it is common for others, though. But I could not record with it because of the ridiculous amount of signal noise, so I went through my Ampeg SVP CL rackmount instead and there was no such noise. So if you intend to feature it on records then you have been warned. Live, ehh...it's not as noticeable.

Yeah, I've seen it too. But I wanted to mention that Geddy himself has recently said it was the Rickenbacker. That's why I said I think he has forgotten. Geddy DID play a Rickenbacker on Limelight LIVE (you can see this on ESL DVD), so maybe he is just a little confused. But I still say Jazz on that song.
-
I always thought that YYZ sounded like the Rickenbacker. TS also seems a little more Ricky to me, especially when comparing to Limelight. Geddy now says the Limelight was the Rickenbacker, but to my ears he is misremembering (you know what I mean). Limelight to me has a very compressed Jazz sound and I'm sure that I read an interview once where he described this, but I can't find it right now to post it.

Sorry I see that this has already been posted in another thread. Sorry for the repeat.
