FWIW - PRS makes some pretty expensive guitars as well. A signature model from them would not be moderately priced.
That said - their acoustics look great. I've not had the privilege to find one to play yet.

Solid particle board!

I bet Orianthi could play some of Alex's licks...she can really tear it up.

I'd have to say overall it would be David Gilmour. Dave Mustaine said it perfectly - "Someone like David Gilmour can say more in three or four notes than Yngwie can say in 100, but at least they're both speaking." The guy is so fluid with his playing its almost like syrup flowing. Watch the "Remember That Night" DVD - the stuff from "On An Island" is fantastic.
If we're talking acoustic though, I've developed a huge respect for Paul Simon and James Taylor. While everyone puts a premium focus on their singing / harmony work, both of them can really play. Taylor's stuff can border on bizarre at times and you'd swear he has 12 fingers.

QUOTE (Gilby @ Jun 13 2011, 04:09 PM) The whole signature thing makes me laugh. Dave Murray strat ? A seventies strat with a dimarzio paf pro in the neck and a custom distortion in the bridge, stick Daves name on it and kerching ! Dave Murray Strat:

Now if it would play Run To The Hills for me that would be cool.

I've been at it almost 3 years and still can't seem to get past banging out chords. I need to find something to help me get past that but I'm not sure what.

We bought Paul's "Good Evening New York City" CD / DVD set last week...and it is just incredible. Sure he has some years on him, but he does just fine, and his current band is just outfrigginstanding.

If they keep the encore, ditch the funky intros. I'd rather see them rip it up on LVS, and then do like they did on R30 and let Alex stand out there with the spotlight shredding the crap out of the intro to Working Man, cranked to 11.

QUOTE (Rendclaw @ Oct 7 2010, 10:17 AM) On another note, have you ever been noodling around and find out that you kinda "get it"? I love it when something like that happens by accident. I've been playing only two years so anything new is a big discovery for me. I was playing one night finger picking chords and did it on a C. I did it a couple of more times and my wife says "Dust In The Wind" ? I went and looked it up - yep.

QUOTE (Boots @ Sep 25 2010, 01:45 PM) Learning guitar with small girly hands sucks too.
Can't reach the chords properly... even with a stupid Daisy Rock guitar. If you have the money, you might want to look into some of Taylor's smaller line guitars, such as a Taylor Big Baby. They're anywhere from 3/4-7/8 scale, and the one I picked up yesterday had a real skinny neck on it. It played very well and sounded terrific. They run around $500 new.

QUOTE (The Owl @ Sep 9 2010, 07:41 PM) Thanks, right now I'm using a (borrowed) acoustic guitar... I plan on eventually buying one, soon as I can save up. After you've been at it a bit, I'd seriously suggest looking on Craigslist in your area. If you have any doubts about what you're looking at, take your friend who plays with you and have him look at it. There are deals to be had there - you never know who has decided to quit playing and has a great guitar for a fraction of the cost of what it was new.
However - always check online at Musicians Friend, Guitar Center, etc for any guitar listed on CL if you can. There's a lot of people who think that because they paid damn near retail that they can charge more than what you can get it new at those stores.

Seagull makes decent acoustics with wider fretboards. At first I didn't care for them but I'm thinking of trying one out. I don't have large fingers, I have longer fingers. Their cedar top guitars sound real nice and they're not budget breakers. For around $300 you can get a decent one.
Worst case you could get a 12 string and string it up as six string.
A classical might be a good starting point as well - they are even larger.
You'll get used to it - my brother inlaw has large hands and has been playing for 40 years. He's a wonderful player.

Every show has had the reggae intro. I don't like it - I like the R30 one where the blistering lick starts the song.

Verizon Wireless / Riverport Amphitheater in STL needs to update their information from the band then; they had huge signs all over stating NO CAMERAS. Of course I saw loads of the damn things and was lamenting that I did not have one. It helped that our seats weren't all that great - the pictures wouldn't have been all that good.

QUOTE (Supersyl @ Sep 7 2010, 01:07 PM) Hotel California (That guitar duel between the WHITE Sg Double-neck and the strat is classic)
I thought Walsh played a Telecaster for that.
-
No worries - I was aware of him using it in '94 for that. I thought it worked very well too. However, Hemispheres is a wee bit longer - and he's 16 years older.

QUOTE (Del_Duio @ Sep 3 2010, 10:46 AM) They should just let Alex make all the setlists from now on anyhow, seems like he gets outvoted or something a lot. That's because Neil has 4 votes.

QUOTE (dakota2112 @ Sep 3 2010, 06:44 AM) He went so far as to flat-out say that the doubleneck was going to be used for the S&A tour in a magazine interview. As I recall, that ended up not happening... Yes, but he was going to use it in a weird way with a piezo pickup installed on the 12 string neck. I think it would have been for Entre Nous, which kind of makes sense but not really.
I don't think he even used it on the Hemispheres tour for the title track - could you imagine playing that thing for nearly 20 minutes straight? Yikes.

104 mph doesn't mean squat if it's not in the strikezone. Just ask Joel Zumaya during the 2006 WS. Also, it's not likely 104mph if the game is on Fox.
Again we lose last night to one of the worst teams in MLB.
On paper this team should be winning the division by 10 games or more. They discussed this morning that when they are losing in the 7th inning they are 4-41. Very frustrating.

Does RR use scanners at the venue? I know here in STL once your ticket is scanned, that barcode is rendered useless. I think they use that technology to keep people from leaving / re-entering.

QUOTE (SalukiRushFan @ Aug 25 2010, 07:02 AM) He needs to take a side trip to Pittsburgh. Good lord that game was frustrating last night.

QUOTE (mystic @ Aug 23 2010, 06:35 PM) Loved Geddys comment about the pigeons, but that's kinda sad that they think of St. Louis as the "pigeon shit" ampitheater
They don't think of the venue as that - it's related to the Kings of Leon show where they walked off after three songs because they said they were getting dumped on by pigeons.
That venue is one of the absolute worst to get in / out of I've ever seen...ugh!

I wondered if he would get to a game or two while here. Sunday's was a really good one - Garcia was lights out.
