  1. When I see entire rows of my show all marked as resale and with ridiculous prices, you know there's shady stuff going on. This happens at almost every arena show though, everyone just needs to be patient and don't start seriously looking until about three weeks before the show. With the VIP scam, you know seats in the first 15 rows will not pop up until TM realizes not everyone will pay those ridiculous prices and they release them back into the general sale , which seems to happen about three weeks before the show. This has happened at every Rush show I have seen since the VIP scam began.

  2. The ticket prices are too high for me not to check the setlist before buying now. I was so disappointed with the Snakes and Time Machine setlists that I said I wasn't going to go to any more Rush shows if they didn't vary up the setlist a lot. Fortunately they did and I saw the CA tour twice. I am worried that this tour's setlist is going to be back to the tried and true so unless I score primo seats today when my show goes to public onsale in 10 minutes, I am going to wait until the setlist comes out.
  3. I have been getting back into vinyl a little bit the last year or so. I have had very mixed results, some of the new remastered LPs (like the Rhino Black Sabbath reissues) sound better than the CDs to me, but others sound worse (old Genesis among others). I love the packaging and full lyrics and liner notes that were left out of a lot of the first CDs and even now appear microscopically if they appear at all. I mean can anyone really read anything in the Rush Caress of Steel remastered booklet without a magnifying glass? Plus there is nostalgic value as well for us old people.

If I was younger and had no nostalgic value, I would advise newcomers to not get into vinyl, it is really random as far as quality goes and it seems like every used LP I get has at least one skip in it. Get into things like HDTracks instead, hearing albums from the Cars in full 24 bit/192KHz sampling was a revelation. Hopefully more albums will be released in this format.

  4. "We even talked about that theme (deep tracks); should we do that? And I said, "no, what we do want to celebrate is the high points where we reached the audience."

This concerns me a lot, I have seen enough of the greatest hits tours. That's what made the CA tour so awesome was hearing a much larger percentage of new or at least not played in 25+ years material.

  5. Apollo,

Check Chicago and the NYC MSG show - only available are "resale". Tickets went on sale to public 1/30. Also, Buffalo doesn't have ANY floor or lower on sale anymore.

I stand by my prediction that around three weeks to the show, more tickets will be made available. Of course my prediction has no warranty or guarantee of any kind.

  6. There is no way any show is even close to sold out yet. Ticketmaster and their ilk never give you a real picture of availability, they like to release tickets bit by bit to make everyone think they are sold out or close to it all the way until showtime so people will pay high prices.

  7. Got 11th row tickets for me and a friend on the CA tour in Seattle in 2012 the day before the show through ticketmaster's regular sales front. People need to realize presales and even the regular on sale dates are a total scam. You will never see a true picture of what is left in ticket inventory until a day or two before the show. If it is more than a day or two before the show and even when they say there are no tickets available, this does not mean there are no tickets available!
  8. This can't even be a question. When one looks at the increased use of synthesizers and shorter songs (nothing over 9 minutes), one can only conclude that Permanent Waves belongs in the '80s. A pesky little thing called the date on the album also confirms Permanent Waves as a member of the '80s. Naysayers may claim that PW was actually composed and recorded in "the 70s." These well meaning but intellectually inferior folk fail to realize the great power of Rush to foresee the future and to compose an album that belonged in the '80s while the date at the time of composition was the '70s. To argue this reveals a profound lack of sophistication on the part of the arguer.

  9. EDIT: Moved my diatribe to the appropriate thread. To respond to the question at hand, I like it but don't love it. All the songs I like on it are done better live so I pretty much never listen to Permanent Waves as a complete album.
  10. I think the blu-ray sound is definitely better although I notice it more on quieter music, like the HD audio track for David Gilmour's Remember That Night blu-ray is reference quality superb. Unfortunately the recent Rush concerts are not well recorded so the improvement is not as noticable, although if you have a 1080p TV the video upgrade is definitely worth it.
  11. The word on the audiophile street seems to be that the FBN blu-ray audio is the same as the Sector box set. The new vinyl/HD audio release is said to be fantastic. Pondering trying out HD audio tonight to hear it for myself.
  12. Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, and Scorpions said they wouldn't be doing any more extensive tours... and then they kept right on doing them. Deep Purple still tours. LEMMY still tours.

Those bands all play shorter shows, I have seen Maiden, Priest and Motorhead within the last couple of years and Maiden's show was the longest at almost 2 hours, Priest barely plays 100 minutes now and Motorhead's was a little short of an hour but that's to be expected on a festival. I hate to say it but Rush should probably think about shortening their show but they really can't since fans would be pissed off about paying higher ticket prices for a shorter show. I love the evening with format but it has probably taken its toll on the boys over the years.

  13. I keep wishing other '80s video releases will have a Dio - Live Sacred Heart type upgrade to them but it never happens except with that Dio show, which sadly wasn't that great. If you haven't seen it, the Dio concert to which I refer was a standard mid-80s VHS concert release that was about 70 minutes. They did a blu-ray version of it last year which was properly widescreen and had the rest of the concert added. It looked and sounded great even if the performance was mediocre so this kind of thing has been done.
  14. $408 for Gold Ticket WE as RUSH fans should boycott these prices- wait for other seats & Move into empties @ Alll Shows- The Boys will retire on these profits!

    THE END OF AN ERA

Those prices are insane, there is absolutely no reason to pay that since you can often get better seats in the regular presale. I don't think I'd pay $400 if I was guaranteed front row.

  15. They are playing every other day in May for four weeks with no break. That's a lot and doesn't sound laid back to me for men over sixty.

I'm starting to wonder if this tour isn't some kind of compromise tour. It looks like it is a bare essentials type of tour.

I will be curious to see if the show length will be as long as previous tours, they have already subtly cut the show length the last tour or two with their ridiculously long intro and outro videos. I am glad that my show date is only the third date after a 10 day break, hopefully Ged's voice will be OK.

Where are you going? To Portland or Seattle?

Salt Lake City. SLC crowds are lame but a 4 hour drive beats a 6 or 7 hour drive and that's each way.
