I got the Epiphone LP Special II last summer - and from the link you provided it looks real similar to that one. Took it to a shop and had better strings put on and they set it up for me. It does great for me (a rank amateur). The amp that came with it wasn't the greatest though.
For a beginner guitar it's not bad.

I think they should celebrate with a world tour... starting in my hometown!!

How are the videos delivered? Do you get a DVD? Are they downloaded? Playable only online?

QUOTE (goincd3 @ Mar 7 2008, 12:03 AM) This was brought up a few weeks ago. I bought Limelight and Tom Sawyer. Actually, I'm watching Tom Sawyer right now. He's teaching the solo, note for note...It's awesome. Definitely recommended. Oops, sorry for the repost - I missed the earlier thread I guess
That's great to hear how detailed they are. I just may have to buy all 3

Just ran across this site tonight.
http://www.ivideosongs.com/search/artist/rush/1630.aspx
They have songs from numerous artists and members of the band show you how to play them.
The link above is the Rush page, which shows 3 Rush songs and has Alex teaching you how to play them. The videos are $9.99 each, but there's a preview so you can see a brief bit of them before buying.
They look useful from the previews anyway. Has anyone watched these videos?

Congrats on making the auditions - good luck with the show!!

Awesome videos, both of you guys! Someday maybe I'll post myself playing some Rush on guitar... but need lots and lots of work before that time

Check out http://www.justinguitar.com/
He has tons of lessons, starting from the beginning level, including some finger exercises, etc.
I just got my first guitar last week and have found them to be quite helpful.
And best of all they are free!!

Can't really help with the problem, but when I saw this thread I immediately thought of this:
"What can this strange device be? When I touch it, it gives forth a sound!"

Wow, just found this site (http://www.guitarbackingtrack.com/). Backing tracks to play along with. Cool
My quest for Closer to the Heart will begin this weekend.

I learned the opening riff to "Smoke on the Water" last night...
Yes I'm a noob

Ok, after a lot of searching and listening to my iPod... I've decided to tackle "Closer to the Heart" first.
It helped my decision that there is a great YouTube video playing it that shows a closeup of Alex's hand work in the beginning of the song
So... in about a year, I should have it worked out

Thanks guys! I'd been thinking about the Discovery section of 2112. It doesn't look too bad, at least at the beginning
I'll check out those as well - especially Working Man. Can't believe I forgot that one; I'd been looking at later stuff mostly

Ok, been playing with my guitar for a bit now, and I'm getting the hang of it, but I'm growing tired of chords and scales... I want to start learning to pick out a song.
Since Rush is by far my favorite band, I'd like my first song I play to be one of theirs
I've found several sites with Rush tabs, but so far the ones I've looked at have been way over my head, including some that required some funky tuning just to play. So, I'm looking for opinions on what would be the easiest Rush song to start out with using a standard tuned 6-string electric guitar
Any opinions would be welcome! Thanks!

QUOTE (yyzyy @ Jul 14 2007, 01:38 AM) CONSTANT MOTION MUSIC VIDEO!!! FINALLY!!!
Constant MotionAm I the only one that was hoping the ants would be smashed between the big steel balls before the end?

At first I wasn't impressed with Systematic Chaos, but after 3-4 listens it grew on me. It's not my favorite DT album, but it's not my least favorite either.
I like track 4 best I think at this point, but 6 is good too.
Looking for AVI/Flac mixing software

Not sure if this is the right place to ask this, but it seemed the logical choice of forums
I have a few .avi files of the Rush concert in Kansas City last weekend. Unfortunately, the sound is totally hosed - I think my crappy digital camera could not handle the awesomeness that is Rush
I downloaded the boot from that show, so I have all the audio in .flac format.
Does anyone know of a freeware proggie that will let me strip the audio from my .avi file and replace it with the .flac? And also let me correct some synching issues that are sure to crop up?
