Those aren't eras... they're decades.
Here's how I break down the "RUSH eras"
RUSH - CoS: In The End
2112 - Hemispheres: Prelude
PeW - Signals: Red Barchetta
P/g! - HYF: Grand Designs
Presto - T4E: Available Light
VT - CA: Headlong Flight

You guys gotta stop putting Losing It on your lists.
If they didn't play it on the CA tour with a full string section they're never going to.
Never say Die!
When it comes to Losing It... DIE!
There, I said it :P

Several times.
First one was P/g! in Saginaw, MI (GA show) and I've been front row at least once on every tour since with the exception of R30 and Time Machine. (got a couple of 2nd rows on TM, but that still isn't the same as being on the barrier).
Cool. First member to speak up. Any stories?
Only a bazillion or so. LOL
Pick a good one. lol Have you met the band?
I've met each of them multiple times.
Pre '97 I had some killer connections.. and since then I've had a couple meet & greets.
Ok.. here's a story.
PoW tour in Detroit. I didn't have a front row ticket but my buddies did. I had already seen a few shows on that tour so I had a good idea of when the lights were going to go down. About 3 minutes before I expected the lights to dim I walked up to the front row, told the usher I was just going to say hello to my buddies and walked over to them.. dead center.. and didn't leave until the show was over ;)
That was fun.. and also in my younger days when I was a bit more brazen then I am now.

I love Superconductor, its a great song! Live anyway.
Ick! It was painful enough live on the Presto tour.. but on RTB when they abbreviated Xanadu and then broke into Stupidconductor it really solidified my hatred of the song.
I mean... c'mon... shorten XANADU to fit in that steaming pile of cow dung of a song?????

The video is bad... but it's eclipsed by the awfulness of the song itself.
Stupidconductor is right near the top (bottom?) of my list of the 10 worst RUSH songs.

Cut to the chase
Scars (if it hasn't been played, can't quite remember if it has) or chain lightning
Alien shore
Open secrets
Freeze (fear)
Peaceable kingdom
Fountain of Lamneth
In no particular order.
Scars was played on the Presto tour.

I stand corrected then. That was the show. Look at that freak'in setlist. I'll have some more of that please..... :codger: :haz:They played it on the Permanent Waves tour. At least the show I saw they did...

At the minute I'm learning to love presto. So far I think it's a good album. I never used to though but now I like it.
I recently warmed to that album. I love it bar one song, Superconductor (sorry but the vocal mix on the chorus gets me so annoyed its horrible).
My vote for most underrated Rush album!
Gawd... I cannot stand Stupidconductor.

There are setlists and substitutions for every tour posted at http://www.2112.net/powerwindows/tours/Tours.htm
I'm not going to swear that they played TS at EVERY show because there is a chance there was a technical glitch at some point and they dropped it somewhere... but yes, it has been in the setlist for every tour and was played at the Molson Blind Date and SARStock as well as the RnRHoF induction

I really enjoyed the Kiss reunion tours. I think I went to 3-4 shows with the original line up (Including opening night at Tiger Stadium). But they totally lost me when they dressed Eric and Tommy in Peter and Ace's gear.
And seeing some vids on YT of recent tours it's pretty clear Paul doesn't have it anymore.
Time to hang it up and call it a good run.
(or dress Nick in Gene's gear, get a new Paul and call it the KISS EXPERIENCE.. which I would be at least interested in seeing)

Bah, keep in mind they are musicians and the best way to practice and use their craft while they still can, is to make new music and/or tour.
Like, there are certain things I am going to do with my body as long as I can get away with it (run, yoga, etc...).
Have you heard Geddy sing the last few tours? He's not "getting away with it" any longer. And both Alex and Neil have slipped on their respective instruments. Geddy's bass playing is still top-notch, though...it's to watch him play that's pretty much the only reason I even go to their shows any more.
Alex has "slipped"
If you say so.

The only disk from that set that I have personally heard is VT:R... so cannot answer.
Sorry.

I'm offended that you're offended. Even more so. And more shocked than I was before. :o :o :o :o :o :o :o
I'm offended that you're offended that he's offended that we're all offended....
Wouldn't you like to be offended too?

From RIAB:
Back in May Rush released 2 new digital-only album collections: Rush The Complete Mercury Years andRush: The Studio Albums 1989-2007. Rush The Complete Mercury Years contains Rush's complete Mercury catalog (all their albums up through A Show of Hands), including the new 2112 Deluxe Edition and 2008's Working Man vault edition. This Mercury collection was essentially already made available via 2011's Sectors box sets (excluding the 2112 Deluxe Edition and Working Man vault edition), but this was the first time they were released for sale digitally. Rush: The Studio Albums 1989-2007contains the entire Atlantic-era Rush studio catalog (Presto through Snakes & Arrows). The collections were mastered by Andy Van Dette from Masterdisk using the original master tapes through analog console, equalizers and compressors before being recaptured at 96kHz/24bit lossless audio. The lossless audio versions were made available via HDTracks.com for a significantly higher cost, but with much better quality than the mastered for iTunes versions. Masterdisk also promised that a physical version of the remastered The Studio Albums 1989-2007 collection would eventually be made available. Warner Music Japan looks to be the first to be offering these physical versions, as they will be releasing Mini-LP Super High Material CDs (SHM-CDs) of all of Rush's Atlantic-era studio albums on September 25th. It's likely that a North American release on CD will follow shortly thereafter. More information as I learn it. Thanks to Yoshiko N and Chris W for the heads up.

I'm not sure which is more annoying. rush cultists or the "I've hated this band since 1983 but I still post here everyday" crowd
Are there people who post here who have hated the band since '83? Can you name some names?
Are any of the UK crew from the old CP board here now with new names?
Plenty of them hate everything past MP... yet they still trolled CP constantly.

I think they should stop performing when THEY are ready to stop performing.
Me too...and I hope they want to soon...hell I've been hoping that for about a decade.
Nobody is forcing you to go to a show.

New World Man may have been popular, but it still sounds like a song that Rush wrote to please themselves
I don't think Signals sounds like an attempt to please the masses in any way whatsoeverpeople can try to sound as smart as they want (lookin at you JARG)
Was it "akin" that threw you off? Not sure what I said up there can be reasonably be interpreted to mean I was trying to sound smart, but whatever.
but it all boils down to "guitar good, keyboard bad"
That's a lot of it, but not all. Certainly there were keyboards on albums prior to Signals. No, for me it was more that the songs were getting "softer" for lack of a better word. The thing I liked about early Rush was the in-your-face aggressiveness of the music (certainly a preponderance of guitar helped in that regard) -- probably because I was a teenager in the late 70s and early 80s. I also liked that their music wasn't popular with most of my peers -- that made it feel like Rush was a kind of secret that I and a few friends were in on (again, the appeal of that probably had something to do with my age).
When MP came out, their popularity skyrocketed, but the music was still pretty hard-hitting, so I was still among the faithful, but when Signals came out, it was blatantly obvious that the band was trying to capitalize on their new-found popularity by writing songs that were more appealing to the "masses". Rush had styled themselves as a "we don't give a f**k about what other people like" type of band, which again, appealed to me mostly due to my age, but Signals changed all that, "OK, so maybe we do care what other people think...we care so much that we'll start writing songs that they might like". It's sort of like how for years Rush said, "we don't give a f**k if we don't get into the RRHOF", but when it finally happened, it suddenly was "a big deal" for them.
You copy may not have shipped with a song called New World Man. ;)
It sounds like a song they wrote in one day because they had roughly 3:41 of extra space available for the vinyl :P

I got to work on A farewell to Kings. I know it seems to be a darling around here. I love only 2 songs and mildly enjoy another.......the rest
Mick
I'm not the biggest fan of the title track, but aside from that the album is pretty amazing IMNTBHO.
I know Madrigal doesn't get much love around here but quite honestly it's one of my favorite songs from the 70's
Jimmy Fallon strikes with another Brian Williams RAP - Baby Got Back!

They're all great.. but this is the best so far.
And it's considerably longer than the rest.
