  1. For this release it seems as if the CDs are the main draw, and the DVD is "just a bouns".. as opposed to it being the other way around on the last few live releases SW has put out...

I think this is gonna be similar to the Blackfield live in NYC that was put out... A live album with a bonus DVD... I don't expect half the presentation and production to go into this DVD as that went into "Anesthetize" or "Get all You Deserve"

  2. I might stick with just the audio on this one... I love the DVDs, but have gotten spoiled on the Blu-Ray... plus I have both the live videos from the last two tours anyway...

If this should ever make it to BD, Ill snag it, but until then, gonna stick with the 2CD set.

...and hopefully a "Arriving Somewhere" BD upconversion is down the road somewhere.

  3. Tennessee this week.... I don't think Houston is gonna have too hard of a time with this game... and I like the Titans (been a fan of them since they were the Oilers), but the team has a lot of rebuilding still to do... and with Bud Adams as project supervisor, there will be many mistakes on that road. Houston should have no problem getting to 4-0..

  4. - Supremecy= Actually good, MBs vocals here are not the best, but a very good opening track

-Madness= I've hated on this song enough already...garbage

-Panic Station= Meh... I don't hate this one, and the funk/groove thing didn't bother me too much.. but neither did too much for me, some great guitar though, and I admit, while not too impressive at first glance, I admit it's one that could grow a bit.

-Prelude/Survival= I didn't hate this one as much as some did, a decent track, standard anthem fair.. thus it's intention..not as bad as the criticism it got during the Olympics, and while far from the best, it's also far from a skipper.

    -Follow Me= 062802puke_prv.gif 062802puke_prv.gif 062802puke_prv.gif 062802puke_prv.gif WTF was that Dub-pop bullshit!?

    - Animals= Someone call Matt Bellamy and tell him Thom Yorke wants his song back..lol. but this is a pretty good track, and I love the subtle bluesy guitar going on. I enjoyed this one VERY much.

    - Explorers= Nothing against the ballads, this reminds me alot of Invincible, which is my favorite MUSE track, but instead of building towards the epicness that Invincible does, this one keeps it to the mellow and stays a ballad. The Subtle string orchestration is nice as well. Ill give it a pass..

    - Big Freeze= Not toooo bad, but a bit overly generic, didn't hate it, but I know MUSE is better than this obvious radio-bait. The guitar on the last 3rd of the song and the outro do elevate what is a mostly a redundant and boring track...

    - Save Me= Someone call Matt Bellamy and tell him Steven Wilson wants his song back. The Vocal performance with the orchestration and guitar made a fantastic intro... I'm really digging this track, and kind of taken back by how different this is not only from the rest of the album, but from any other Muse song in general... This is how you "evolve" your sound, in this direction... not where you going with "Madness".... This song alone will probably sell me the CD.

    - Liquid State= Ahhh, something somewhat heavy... nice driving riffs, and I like that someone other than Matt's falsetto voice (not complaining, I enjoy Matts vocals largely) take center stage for a bit of change up, and kind of reminds me of the Flying Colors release earlier this year....only complaint is that it's a bit too short.. more could have been done with this track...but overall a great track.

    - The 2nd Law (Unstainable)... gonna not try to judge this on just the album preview... I enjoyed the buildup of the strings but until the ... ughhh... dubstep....I guess something can be said that Matt B did it all with just his guitar. But I am glad that it dosen't dominate the track as the album preview suggested, but only is prominent in a few areas. For the most part (other than the in your face dub crap) it is a decent track...I am surprised.. I guess I got too worked up by the album trailer

    - The 2nd Law (Isolated System)... Love the start up, kind of has the same feel as "Save Me"... Not too sure about this as an album closer... but I enjoyed it alot.. I might be missing something concept wise as to why this track is placed right at the end of the album...

I have to say... after "Madness" and the album preview, my expectations were set WAAAAY low for this album, but I am conveniently surprised, I did not expect to actually like this album, and for the most part, I do. And other than a few tracks (Follow me...really.. what the f**k was that?, you make Madness look like good song) that are utterly skippable.. this is a very decent album... better than the previous couple of albums... I don't know yet.. these are my initial reactions, and it will take a few spins for it to sink in completely... I am just relieved that this album didn't altogether suck.

  5. The inexpertiese of these officials is almost a joke at this point...I realize these guys are lower tier college, arena, and in some cases high school refs and not adept to the pace of NFL officiating, but that's on them...they crossed the metaphorical picket line, and should have realized what they were getting themselves into.

I do also love the fact that both a GB player, and a Wisconsin senator both tweeted out Roger Goodel's phone number.

Funniest tweet i've read so far about this whole debacle.." If this call had been made in Oakland, 5 people would have been stabbed by now"

  6. I saw them on the prognation tour as well...and to be honest... they kind of overshadowed Dream Theater. I have been looking for a chance to see them again since... it sucks that they are coming nowhere Austin on this tour...and were only touring as a supporting act previously.

I dont think there are any regular members in Dweezil's band that there were in Frank's...but Dweezil certaintly inherited the ability to select world class musicians to play with, a knack that Frank was so good with....so 30 bucks is a steal.

sorry for the old bump...... but I finally got around to watching the show/movie... it was great..

Just a show that came out at the wrong time.... if it had been made 4 or 5 years later...it could still be on TV

The show didn't come out at the wrong time, it was on the wrong station. I know that Joss went with what was probably the best offer for the show, but it never should have been on FOX. The show would've been perfect on the Sci-Fi channel. Of course no matter how successful a show is for them, Sci-Fi always cancels it after four or five seasons because they're a bunch of cheapskates. But the at least the show would've been given a fair shot and would've lasted longer.

I didn't watch the show until well after it was cancelled. When the show aired I don't recall ever seeing any promos for it. I could be wrong on that, but it seems FOX set the show up to fail. I heard more about it after it was cancelled than I did when it was on.

It's a good show with a very original concept. It wasn't the best show ever but the potential was there for it to be one if it had been given more time. Plus, denying us more of Jewel Staite is just unforgivable. I'm more upset about that than anything else.

My point was is that (for want of a better term) "nerd culture" and the audience for a show like this has only grown in the last 5-6 years... and that in 2002 I don't think there was an audience for this as there is now....and that goes for all sci-fi/fantasy/horror tv shows..

Look at Comic Con in the early 2000s vs Comic con in the last 5 or so years and it should give you any indication... Look at the scene of the past 6 or so years.... and the popularity of shows like LOST, Fringe, Walking Dead, Doctor Who, Big Bang Theory, the Revival of Futurama, any Vampire based TV show, Game of Thrones...etc These "nerdy" shows are more popular now than they've ever been, and all within the past 6 or so years.... not so much in 2002...and if Firefly had started say in 2006 or 07... I say there's a good chance it would have seen several seasons... perhaps even still be on... just my opinion.

Yeah, you do have a point there. But you forgot to mention the one show that lead to the modern day boom in Sci-Fi shows and that's Battlestar Galactica. It's a Sci-Fi show that was acessable to everyone and it was the most watched show in the history of the Sci-Fi channel when it was on. It no doubt got a lot of people into the genre that otherwise wouldn't have bothered with it. The Sci-Fi channel also has some cool shows on now to like Haven, Warehouse 13, Lost Girl and Eureka, which unfortunately, just finished it's fifth and final season a few months ago.

As for comic-con, I have no idea what they're like since i've never been to one. So I can't speak to how that event has changed through the years.

I am not saying Fox being a bunch of douchebags had nothing to do with... it almost certainly did..and had Firefly been on a channel like Sci-fi... I think there's a good chance it would have had a stronger run... but what I am also saying is that a show like Firefly stands a better chance on network TV nowadays than it did back then.....

  9. on a different note, I was rewatching last season's finale a couple of weeks ago before the start of the new series, and was once again brought to tears by one particular scene.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rMZP26lblTg

When the Doctor tries to get ahold of the Brigadier in the season finale.. I lost it... for one it was not only a great sendoff for one of the best Doctor Who supporting characters....screw it... THE BEST supporting character in DW history, but also a touching memoriam to the actor who played him...Nicholas Courtney who passed away while the 6th series was in the writing process (and only a couple of months before Liz Sladen died) ...

For those unfamiliar to Classic Who (and I am a relative newcomer myself) The Brig, or Brigadier Gordon Alistair Lethbridge-Stewart was a long-time supporting character during the time of the 2nd-4th Doctor era.... and an all around bad ass..

... the small aside in last series' finale was unexpected and very welcome, especially since the character never appeared in the revived series, but hats off to Steven Moffatt for including that aside in the episode...

One thing that really annoyed me last season was how it was really "Amy Pond... and her sidekicks"

I think Matt could do sooooooo much better, if they didn't center almost every episode around Amy. And I think Amy could be a lot better if the show wasn't so focused on her.

well.....at least Amy is a much better character to do that with...as opposed when they tried to do it with Rose.....

but at least with Rose, feelings for the Doctor wasn't the main story (which is mostly what sub-plot was about).. with Amy it's about the crack in her wall, where are her parents, does she still love Rory, is she going to become a weeping angel, what is her connection to River, how did she get into the Pandorica, where did she vanish off to, why is her and Rory seperated, etc.

All they really need to do is a little tweaking and not make it always about HER and be more about the Doctor... and things will be much better (this last episode did a MUCH better job of featuring the Doctor rather than Amy.)

Don't get me wrong, I don't like a completely helpless assistant that's always crying for help either... but the Doctor is the "Alpha" here.. not her.

I did like last nights episode in that they are making the Doctor have more of a "mean" streak (which would only come out from time to time with the previous two Doctors... but you knew it was always there.)

I don't disagree too much... Moffatt's run with the show has been unusually focused on the companion more so than with any previous companion... but I think Amy and Rory are good companions to do that with.... yes I'd like a bit more attention focused on the Doctor's story (it is his show after all), but it's not that much of a bother as Amy and Rory are very well written, if a bit receiving a bit too much focus.

But how can you not say that Rose had the same treatment if not more focus that was drawn away from the Doctor than that of Amy and Rory... for some reason Russel T Davies had a huge hard-on for Rose and it got very irritating after a while.... don't get me wrong I don't hate Rose... and I know alot of people that do... but I also however do not see Rose as the "bar, by wich all other companions shall be judged" either, as it seems to be the opinion of alot of revived Doctor Who fans...(and Russel T Davies) ...

Rose was alright in the first season.... I actually really enjoyed Rose in the first season.... because she fit that perfect niche that a companion should fill... as a surrogate for the audience into the Whoniverse... that first season was about the fallout the Doctor was experiencing after the time war, and his learning to move pass it...and there was never a point where the production staff and writers were forcing the companion (I.E Rose) into the forefront to overshadow the Doctor's story arc in that season...

But starting the second season that changed... luckily we had David Tennant's wonderful Doctor to hold the show up because it was here that Rose really starts to irritate me (no Offense to Billy Piper...she did not write the scripts)....that whole second season and forward it is really hard to tolerate her at times, and they gave her too much focus within the story... the same issue you're having with Amy Pond...and her character was pushed to some annoying extremes... she was just awful to her boyfriend and mother, was bitchy and insulting to Sarah Jane in the School reunion episode, and got too jealous and protective when anyone got too near to the Doctor... the whole romance thing was carried too far..... Amy might be receiving the alot of the same foreground but Amy has far less of the annoying ticks that Rose had...

Rose was decent, and despite all Ive pointed out, I don't hate that character...I love most of the Russel T Davies WHO... even the season with Martha Jones... 062802puke_prv.gif who makes Rose look like a saint...

One thing that might be an issue with Amy and Rory is this though.... Amy and Rory do not have a set of supporting characters based on Earth, that by extension help define the companions... Rose and.... ughh Martha, both had families that were on Earth... people, that despite traveling with the Doctor, gave the companion something to care about back home, and make the companion more 3 dimensional... I loved Mickey and Jackie....and later on Pete... in alot of cases more so than Rose... and Martha Jone's family was her only saving grace... and don't get me started on Donna's family, Donna is still my favorite companion of the revived series, but I absolutely LOVED Wilfed Mott...favorite character in all of the Revival (aside from the doctors)....

But Amy and Rory do not have that "on earth" connection, no supporting cast on earth that they care about....hell... Rory's father was only introduced 1 episode ago... 3 episodes before they leave.... my 1 complaint about Amy and Rory as companions....

I don't mind alot of the focus on Amy's story even if it does somewhat diminish that of the Doctor.... I think if you're gonna do that, at least make sure it's a well written character... and Amy (and Rory) are just that... once again as opposed when they did the same thing before to a less well written character.
