  1. QUOTE (av450 @ Jul 25 2012, 09:38 PM)
I'm just starting to get into DT. I like The Glass prison, The great Debate, The count of Tuscany. My question is, what is a good first album to buy of theirs?

To be honest, I always go with a live release first pretty much when I try to discover a band.....

I started with the live album "Score", a triple live with a very good setlist that did a great job encompassing their catalog form 85 (there was a Majesty song in there) to 2005... I'd start there.

  2. Easy question, who here is going to the first stop at of the tour and who will be posting the setlist as it happens? And if you are, hit us up with your twitter (or an link that you will post on, if not twitter) and we can follow the setlist along with you...for those who wish to be spoiled (My show is the 2nd to last, I cannot hold out)..

    thanks in advance...

  3. Anyone listen to "Banks of Eden" yet? I thought it was fantastic, it blows "Sum of No Evil" away...enjoyed all of it. Even the bonus tracks were pretty good, but Im glad they were seperate from the actual album...if you have not heard it yet, please do so.
  4. Though with Dini it'd be sad not to see the Batman and Joker associated with Dini... that being Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill...but I would look to those interpritations as guidelines in the casting.

With Dini you would also be able to see Harley Quinn in a theatrical film.

  5. The Dark Knight Rises is out and Christopher Nolan's time with the Batman film franchise is finished.. sad.gif

The Batman franchise is too profitabe for Warner Brothers to sit for too long, so the (another) inevitable re-boot isnt too far off. So knowing that reality, who do you think and who would you like to see take the helm for the next run of Batman films..guess on director/writer/and on who would play Batman

I think it's about time to give the keys to the franchise over to a guy who has already done some amazing work with the franchize...and that would be Paul Dini. Dini who is most known for one of the lead writers on The Animated series in the 90s, and more recently the Batman Arkham asylum/city video games would be the perfect choice to finally be given the shot at a feature live action film. I dont know about his directing chops, but would love to see him at least writing, but itd be worth the gamble to let him direct as well.

  6. I really enjoyed the film, very much.... Alot to take in, but found it very very good... not as good as TDK, but better than the first for me (which I also love)

On a side note.... can we assume this is a spoiler thread? Ill keep this post safe but can we agree that from here on out full spoiler mode is on..

    (Highlight to Read)

I saw the Talia Al Ghul thing coming from a mile away, I know the general movie goer won't, but anyone familiar with Batman mythos should....and I wish they'd quit mispronouncing Ra's al Ghul's name its "Rache" al Ghul not "Raz" al Ghul..

....that aside I think alot of the people who have a small bit of disdain for the Nolan films due to the straying away from source material will with this film find MUCH to enjoy... it is by and far the most "Comic Book-y" of the Nolan films (in a good way, that dosen't give way to camp) and the closest to the source material.

  7. Im reall excited about the new album, i too say "Bring It On"

But I am getting the impression that his solo career is becoming his "main stay" and that Porcupine Tree will become more of a secondary project from here on in.... I dont know what to think about that, Im loving his solo material, but I also dont want to see PT become a group that releases an album only once every 4 to 5 years.... I think the long break between The Incident and now is a good one, The Incident, while good, was far in quality from the previous 3 records..so the long break might help to searve PT creativly when they finally do record a new album, but I hope it wont be another 5 or 6 years after that till the next.

  8. Im pretty much in agreement with alot here, I doubt they can pull it off, but Ill at least wait and see.... I dont expect the quality of the original albujm/tour, but if they can pull performances at least to level they did at the superbowl a couple years ago, i'd be content with that..
  9. Read this on Reuters (once again posting this from my phone so I cant post a link) but The Who (rather Townsend/Daltry) are touring this fall and next spring the Quadrophenia album in its entierty..

I think this is pretty cool I guess, I wonder if they could still pull it off? Anywho as much as I love Quad, Id imagine tickets would be astronomically high for the show and probably a pass for me, though if they are able to still do the album justice I would love to see some live release from this tour...

  10. I really don't understand the negative reaction to Halo Effect... It's a very nice song, and a great breath of air on the album.... I think an acoustic arrangement would even more beautify this track and would be excellent after the drum solo.
  11. Believe it or not, I still am in the absorbing phase of this album (which will likely last until I see how these songs hold up live)... and I have not even tried to fit in this album with the grander and larger Rush body of work as a whole..

I can say that I love the album, very very much, and would say that it is very very likely to see this crack my top 10 (possibly even 5) but I am still not at a point to categorize it fully.

  12. Sorry if this is in the wrong sub-forum, this topic I think could fit in both here and in the tour sub-forum..

    ------------------------------------------------------

I was thinking about what Alex could do for the now-traditional post-drum solo acoustic track... and I was thinking the boys could re-work "Halo Effect" into an acoustic set and both Alex and Geddy could come out and do the track on stools... Much in the same way "Resist" was re-worked and performed after the drum solo live on previous tours.

Would this be a good idea, and would it work?

  13. Attendance was not too bad in Austin between half and 2/3.... but yeah, it's a problem... and you know it has to be somewhat dishearting to the band. Especially since they are a band that now is very solid based on the performance I saw, and from what Im hearing on other shows.

And as much as I think Portnoy was in the wrong (behavior wise) in his departure of the band, maybe he was right in one aspect...maybe the band did need a break, some time to recharge and come back in full force a few years down the road?
