Well you talked me into it!

I need to sell my PRS and I was looking for something with a good trem to replace it. It needed to be cheap too so I decided to just build a guitar.

The neck, tuners, nut, and floyd are on temporary loan from my Blue Strat. I got the rest of the parts on ebay pretty cheap.

I guess I need to build the black one eventually and have the whole set!

    http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h247/pete2112/DSCN1749.jpg

yes, maybe they won`t be complete without the black,

but...... are AL`s three strats come in the the same specs? then, what would be the difference?

  5. inspirative opinions, everyone, but i think it`snot a sin at all that we tend mimic/ being heavily influence by musicians we admire in the early days of our playing. I`m still at it right now, i`m trying to dissects tunes from Lifeson, Blackmore,HOwe, Holldsworth and any other guitarist, just to see how their styles in making up licks.

maybe some people had to went through it in order to build their own styles.

hey i ever caught in some records that some big-named players stole popular licks from other guitarist. it was quite noticable though

  6. i live with these two:

    a steinberger-licenced hohner, with standard bridge(no trans-trem), and a YAmaha RGX121

    http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p191/starsabre86/P1010407.jpg

I`m building a fretless guitar right now, just to see how it`ll feel

  7. i myself own a Yamaha RGX121, and decided that the pickups sound are too sweet that needs replacements.

I`m planning to buy a B.lawrence humbuckers to be installed on

my Yamaha, how would you suggest, the L-500L or the L-500 XL??

i`m still confused between those two

Alex doesn't look much like a rock star, does he? More like the guy who does my taxes. laugh.gif

I think he looks very handsome in this picture! Thanks for posting it Capt. Murphy. BTW, is that you in the middle? If so, you're a lucky bastard! laugh.gif

    I hope that's not Murfy. Murfy's a girl! laugh.gif

And, Alex is VERY handsome. It's only that he doesn't look like your typical rock god.

Oops! Sorry about that Murfy! I didn't know! I guess I should get to know peeps better around here! laugh.gif

And Sully, I knew you meant no disrespect to our man Lerxst! I just think this is a particularly handsome shot of him! (And yes, he could dress a little more "rock star!") wink.gif

    OOAAAGHHHH!!!!! Droool drool1.gif

anyway i had a discussion with some friends about how powerfull the Bill lawrence sound is, Dimebag Darrel also using one too, right into an amp head.I suppose this pickup does cover wide range of tones well.

i think it`s gotta be my new G.A.S alongside a BOSS CE-5 unit

i`ve been wondering what`s the sound differrence between the double/single bladed pickups and those with poles? [/quote]
Dime used the L500XL which is a very powerful pickup. Alex used the L500 which is less powerful but has a really nice tone to it.
I got both of mine on ebay. There's a store in Florida that has a limited stock of L500's from the 1970's and they're the same ones Alex used. The sound of them just nails Alex's tone.

The red guitar's body is made by WD Music and the neck is from my Japanese Strat. I'm going to eventually get another neck for the red one so I can put my MIJ Strat back together. I'd like to find a neck just like this one though.

if i have limited budget, that i have to choose, which one should i get?

i think i would need one that can cover heavy, yet still have sweet character when i need it. is the XL can still be great for playing rush?

    All done!!
This was a lot of work routing for the switch, routing the recess for the Floyd Rose, and routing out the pickguard. The pickguard was only cut for a single humbucker, I had to rout the single coil holes.

Trivia Fact: Alex's first one was actually cherry red (see photos, CoS tour or Xanadu studio version video), although I prefer the Alpine White.

    True.

I saw them on the 2112 tour and he played Something for Nothing on the red doubleneck.

I think it met with an unfortunate accident IIRC.

Yep, Rush were playing with Blue Oyster Cult at Nassau Coliseum in NY when a speaker horn fell on the red doubleneck, gouging the hell out of it.

tooo bad, so was that why he changed into the white doubleSG?
