  1. As much as every single one of us should say Moving Pictures, I voted Permanent Waves.

MP is, without question, a watershed album in rock music history (even if the average music fan doesn't completely realize it). It certainly deserves the love it gets in this poll.

That being said, I just absolutely love PW.

  2. A Show of Hands because it reminds me of my youth and seeing them live during those days.

Have to say, though, I love the 4th disc (P/G Video Soundtrack) from Replay. The version of Spirit on that disc seems to have a level of soul not always found on other live versions, boots included.

  3. I wasn't sold on the idea of a cover EP, but I bought it the day of the release and.... wow.

Could do without the Buffalo Springfield, but everything else is, in my humble opinion, outstanding.

Almost voted for Crossroads, then Mr. Soul. Settled on The Seeker.

  4. Without a doubt, my favorite album.

I can't say enough about it.... Natural Science, Entre Nous, Freewill.... but it begins with a harmonic bang unlike anything else in rock music.

My vote goes to Spirit, if not for the blistering intro and melody, then for the lyrical genius play on Simon and Garfunkel.

  5. It does my heart good to see so much love for this album. I was leaving high school and entering college when it was released and the resident Rush fans of my generation bashed Presto relentlessly.

Perhaps it was because I had a sincere and heartfelt, lifesaving revelation when I first heard The Pass. Perhaps it was because I was ready to move on with live and was willing to accept Rush was evolving. But I immediately loved this album.

It grows more relevant to my life almost daily.... any Rush fan with a teenage or nearly teenage child can still completely relate to War Paint. Anagram for Mongo still makes me chuckle.

This disc is always in my 6 disc changer.

  6. I see the Middle Kingdom between Heaven and Earth....

Every time I go to a high school football game or see gangs squaring off I think of this song.

It is deep beyond description... an explanation of the bizarre behavior that is humanity.

    I love this song.

  7. As if my login name doesn't give it away...

I have been described by friends who know me and Rush as a New World Man...

Still, Subdivisions and The Weapon are high on my personal list.

This album, though, is low on my overall Rush list. To me it comes off as awkward in places.

  8. So, I am a high school principal any my school does a spring thing called Mini-Courses (a two-week window where the English Department teachers have a short course on something they and the students find interesting).

One of my teachers is considering a course on Prog Rock with a heavy Rush influence for this year. If she doesn't pick it up, I am doing one next year on Moving Pictures (mine this year is on baseball in literature... if I bill it the students will come).

This entire album, after all, deserves that kind of respect. Of course everyone wants to vote Tom Sawyer but won't. Red Barchetta... come on, now... is there a better Rush song live?

I used to actually use Witch Hunt as part of my history curriculum when I was in the classroom.

    Etc. etc. etc.

My vote went to Limelight since it is my son's favorite song... but we are talking Moving Pictures... there isn't a bad vote on this one.

  9. Okay, so I was only 7 during the tour and didn't attend... but I have a replica shirt from the 77-78 Farewell Tour for one reason: Xanadu.

Yes, Closer to the Heart is a crowd and billboard favorite and it's always interesting to see how the boys mix it up during the jam session when they do play it live, but hearing Xan live on R30 was the equivalent of an eternity in the Pleasure Dome.
