  1. Troy: Director's Cut

Alongside Kingdom Of Heaven: The Director's Cut and Gladiator, this film is one of my very favourite modern epics. Flawed, yes, but this is such an enjoyable work! KoH:DC remains my favourite film of the last ten years. Will watch that again soon!

I rented this movie a while back but I don't remember if it was the directors cut. What did they add to the directors cut that wasn't in the original release?

Not some good acting, I think.

Really, as a European, I can't even begin to forgive that pathetic pile of shit attempt at turning Omerus into Lord of the Rings. American directors, leave European mythos alone. You are not cut for it. We can do it much better on our own. And we did.

  2. He's very melodic and has produced some memorable solos. Maybe he doesn't get the props because he isn't as flashy as many of his contemporaries, maybe it's a band image thing, or a personal image thing?

Now what would be wrong in his personal image, I can't possibly imagine...

  3. How is Nightcrawler?

Well, I did share my thoughts on it above. I can't effectively explain the entire reason why I give it an 8/10 rather than a 10/10 without spoiling, so I'll refrain from that... I can say though that the soundtrack is a bit lacking and in one instance implemented poorly, so there's that.

Jake Gyllenhal's performance, character, and dedication to the role is really what carries this movie. Had some details been changed the movie could have easily been a 10 - so perhaps I really owe it a 9/10.. The thing is though, the two or three things this film f*cks up, I think it really f*cks up bad... I'll go into detail in a spoiler/PM after you see it, because you definitely do need to see it :D

Yeah, my bad, I posted my request before reading ALL the posts in the thread (also because your review was in the other page). I am very interested in seeing this, and I love JG, so I'll definitely give it a try.

But what is the basic premise? Jake is obsessed with reality shows or something like that?

Now, to what I saw last night:

It seems all Korean historical movies are about killing the king! Anyway, this one is very good: usually this kind of movies show the king as a winy loser and sympathize with the assassin, but in this one the King is totally badass, and I mean Batman-level badass, while the assassin is a misty-eyed teenyboppers' idol who looks like a frightened doll for the whole time. So you go for the king and that's it. Good action, but not superb. It's more about the characters.

  4. Between yesterday and today I was playing some BOC, I'm actually trying to get back into the band, and it came to my mind that whenever a "Best guitarist" pool comes out, Roeser is never there with the usual gods. I mean, for all I hear, he can play a mean lead guitar and has a great sense of melody. Maybe his tone is a little "old", but that goes for a lot.

So, what do you think? Is he just underrated, or is he just flash?

Despite PSH and Walken, I have to admit I couldn't get to the end of this. It's just like a late-period Woody Allen movie, where you see all these artistic, intellectual, rich New Yorkers who go jogging in Central Park and play Beethoven and look so beautiful and perfect and so close to each other and then the movie HAS to show you that deep down they are little ego-monkeys, go for casual sex, have sex with their partner's foxy daughter (this was the last straw). After all, I wasn't interested in what the movie had to say.

  6. I thought it was just "Never say you like Vapor Trails".

What's wrong with Vapor Trails? I'm gonna go listen to it in my car now.

Some quality ear plugs would make these two items mute.... :)

    Goobs, that you?

Nope. He left seemingly for good just after I became a member. I knew he was a VT hater but I can't recall reading his exact take on the album. As I have said many times I believe there is some good material there but it just sounds like sh*t....

Yeah, I was just being jerky-ironic, mate. BTW, if the sound is your issue, have you checked out the remaster?

I know you were and its all in good fun. If you mean the "re-mix" then yes I have. I tried many times to at least enjoy listening to it but just can't. The sound/distortion just bothers me to much. It makes the "overproduction" of CA a pleasure to listen to in comparison.... :)

Although the epic "War on Vapor Trails" is funny and engaging at times, I'm not one to stuff VT down people's throat at any cost. I surely wouldn't like if someone went and did that number on me with CT or T4E. I probably love that album for reasons too much personal and linked to my experience, that I have lost any objectivity about it. But I'm all right with everyone else not liking it.

Now where were we? Oh yes, surviving this forum...

This post^^^^ is an example of "how to survive this forum". Respect for others opinions is tops on the list needless to say. An excellent sense of humor and some humility being second... :)

But wait, where do you leave Ego-massaging, Sense of Power, Self-Righteousness, Jerkyness and, most important of all, Not-Enough-Sex?

Catching up with Hunger Games. The wife loves it, the why beats me. This second chapter was a little more solid in terms of action, but boy does it draaaaaaag. Jenny Lawrence is always super-nice. Harrelson is always top of the game. I'm starting to root for the baker boy now. Kudos also to the Lady Gaga impersonator for coming through as a lovable person. The fact that a movie can make me appreciate Lenny Kravitz is no small feat, either.

The movies drag, the books do not.

I don't know if I'm young enough to read them. I still haven't read Harry Potter...

  10. The Who first of all, although I can't see the Pink Floyd connection you suggested. They couldn't be more far apart in my view.

    American Music Club

    The wind pulls me around

and everything it touches turns weak

An antique or an eyelash stuck to your cheek

The paper thin skin of a crowd chasing you down

    a long and dead-end trail

with a guilt no alibi can curtail

The world is held together by the wind

That blows through Gena Rowland’s hair

Molotov - a little off the hook (ok, not just a little)

Piden mis datos, yo me presento

Como Mr. JonnyCash pero yo ni cash tengo
