...who is considering finally getting a player, how much noticability is the DVD up-conversion on a Blu-ray machine?

Do know about me that I'm not audio or videophile, so if that's YOU, you probably notice things that I don't.

For instance, while I still have my CDs I listen to an ipod and I'm fine with it.  Audiophiles typically don't like them.  I'm not one who thinks it sounds horrible, etc.  I have Bose headphones, which audio folks have dubbed "buy other sound equipment" and I'm fine with those too.  I don't need $500 studio quality cans.  I've literally got a $150 cheap ass Sony surround sound whose speakers sit on the TV stand all bunched together because I'm too lazy to elevate and put them where I can best optimize the sound.

That is what you're dealing with here.

However, that said I simply cannot watch a movie on VHS anymore...if that's any suggestion of hope for me.  I've owned a DVD player for almost 8 years and enjoy the crap out of it so much that I can't even play and enjoy an old VHS tapes.  I have no patience for the drop in quality there.

Just last year for the very first time I got a 1080p HD TV (mid-sized), so I'm not watching on grandpa's old console TV.

Lastly I have NO INTENTION of replacing my DVD collection with Blu-Ray discs.  I simply don't need to have Tootsie or Caddyshack or Annie Hall on Blu-ray.  However I would plan to upgrade great visual films like Lord Of The Rings or Peter Jackson's King Kong and films like that

So mostly my question comes in the form of how much more noticeable will my DVDs be improved on a Blu-ray player or is it just an up-convert only AV-philes get off on?

    Thanks in advance..!

Screw the audio shobs, Bose rocks! I have Bose surround sound speakers and a wave radio/cd player and they all sound great!

I have to agree... Last year, I bit the bullet & invested in a Bose Lifestyle system. It rocks...really rocks, and I've yet to hear anything I like better.

And, you will see a difference in DVD's when played in a Blu ray player.

    You work for Big Meat?

    Interesting.

Ever toured a slaughter house before?

    Toured...?

    I've worked in them...

  3. I didn't think about this...

Are you getting the buzz when you playing the snare drum, or is it my biggest pain in the butt...the dreaded 'sympathetic' buzz that you get when you hit your toms?

If this is the case, you can jack around with your tom tuning until you find a pitch that doesn't cause the snare wires to vibrate.

Tighten the snares... I have a steel snare also, and my snares are as tight as they can be.

Ooooh.....I'm afraid I have them as tight as they can go.

Do I need another snare bed?

Are any of the wires loose? If so, that may be the problem, and replacing the snare wire set may fix it.

What material is used to tension the snare set? Is it cloth/plastic strap or string/cord?

I've seen, with the use of cord, there is unequal tension - one side may be tighter than the other.

Lastly, look at the width of the snare set in relation to the width of the snare bed. If the snare set is wider than the snare bed, you'll be more prone to getting the buzz. Try a snare set equal to, or slightly more narrow than the snare bed.

Check this out. The misguided, misinformed and the government together again. Be afraid of both.

Who would have thought they would find a way to ban fishing before banning guns.

That's because it's easier to get a fishing pole than a gun. The morons I see fishing don't pay attention to what they're catching & keeping or they don't care. I've seen bass being hauled out of the fresh water during spawn season. Supposedly illegal. I called the NH Fish & Game. There was no one to take the call which was then forwarded to the NH state police, who told me to call on the following Monday (it was a Saturday). Go figure.

I was annoyed because fish should be back in the water unless specifically allowed. I don't really like taking a life, therefore, all fish I catch go back. I won't argue with those who do keep their legal catch for eating. That's fine. That's why the law is the way it is. They are trying to keep the ecology going well. Deviate & we're screwing the Earth.

It's time the government wakes up & realizes to just simply pay the F&G more money-hire a few more & go from there. Morons..

goodpost.gif Up here people fish illegally all the time. I have called F&G plenty of times. They do what they can but there are never enough officers to enforce the laws that are in place. BTW.. taking away our guns and fishing gear up here will be something that will not be tolerated!! biggrin.gif trink39.gif

Maybe with this upcoming Wildlife and Fisheries degree, they'll let me be a game warden up there wink.gif laugh.gif

Dude, we need more Fish & Game people. Too many people don't care about what happens to the ecology when you take when you are not supposed to.

    Amen, brother!

I have the 'game watch' number programmed in my phone. I call Fish & Game every time I see someone breaking the law.

Living in the southeast, I see a lot of immigrants, most likely ignorant of the game & fish regulations, netting game fish & ignoring kreel limits. angry.gif

A friend of mine told me about a method involving filling the bathtub with water and using a bucket. It kinda hotboxes the bathroom and It's kinda a bathtub bong, aparently one hit and you're knocked off your ass.

Seems like that would take a lot of pot.

I've seen and used something similar. Cut the bottom third off of a two liter bottle. Then drill a hole in the plastic top and stick a metal bowl through the top. Fill a sink with water. Submerge about half of the two liter bottle in the water (skinny side up), screw on the top and fill with weed. With a liter on the bowl, slowly bring the two liter bottle up out of the water, not all the way. This will draw smoke into the bottle. Un-screw cap, place mouth on bottle top and suck while slowly pushing the bottle back into the water and forcing the smoke up out of the bottle.

Man that seems like a hell of a lot to go through but I can remember (well....sorta) doing that several times at parties. Damn pot MacGyvers. laugh.gif

    I've done that.

I'm thinking about a Ruger 10/22 for my next rifle. Reliable as heck and cheap to shoot. What do the rest of you think?

I have had one of those for about 20 years. Wouldn't hesitate to buy another. Reliable and fun to shoot.

    Absolutely!

    I've got two of them.

    You actually own this?

Yep. It's nothing special. A Colt 6920 with some aftermarket stuff to dress it up a little.

    Are you a vet? unsure.gif

    Nope...just like AR's.

Awesome! I love the foregrip on the magazine well. Is that stock or an after-market attachment?

    It's aftermarket...

    The Mako Group

It bolts up nicely to most AR's. Some lowers require slight modification to the grip for a good fit.

I picked up a used North American Arms .22 mag revolver (Black Widow) for my fishing gun. Dang, it's loud!

I'm working on getting a Daniel Defense free-floater quad rail for the AR.

Pics when it's done. It's gonna be baaaaaaad!

Soooo, anyone here got wheels that cost upwards of $2000??? (Not here.  I would have several shit-fits if DH spent that kind of money on rims).

    Close, but not quite $2K.

I can say this though, if you're a serious cycling enthusiast, you will definitely notice the quality of your ride with the more dollars you spend.

    True that!

No comparison in a top end bike & a $300 ride.
