  1. As long as you divide the site into those who know PeW is a 70s album and those who think record company marketing considerations are more important than the creative aspect, it should work out OK, especially if you give ample amounts of birth control to the latter group, and clear instructions on how it works.

Happy gestation day, LABT! Why does your profile list your birthday?

I have too much respect for your intellect to think this is anything but trolling, so before I craft a response, please confirm that you are.

I think we can safely establish that you are a 60s album.

  2. As someone who routinely would go to Rush concerts by herself, *ahem* I take exception to the tone this thread has taken.

That being said, I took my husband to a Rush concert once...once. R30 to be specific. He thought it was ok, but a tad too long...wait, too long?! ....WTF?!! Feh, I don't need that kind of negativity in my life. Haven't taken him to one since. Too long...pfffffttttt.

So see? We don't all have to like the same things.

I mean, it's nice when we do, but it's not necessary.

I love my husband. He (at most) tolerates Rush. But he loves me and knows I love Rush.

    And that's ok.

    It's the circle of life.

I have a soft spot for this movie...it's both hilarious and sad. Anyone who's been in a foreign place alone can relate to this particular brand of loneliness. Not a huge fan of Scarlett Johannson overall, don't really think she can act her way out a paper bag. But she was good in this role. And Bill Murray was perfect for this part...his scenes while filming the commercial and photo shoot are so funny. You can feel his frustration. It's just a sweet little movie.

  4. You mad? Lol . I loved the movie without any this to do with band. After all on this forum there seams to be equal hate for their work and the members, so maybe I’m happy there was less rush.

:eh: Uh, no. I'm not mad. What a ridiculous comment. You make it seem, though, that you hadn't even heard of the book. Which has a HUGE part devoted to Rush and 2112, not just a couple of small visual cameos. The writer, Ernest Cline is obviously a fan. To make this movie and completely cut out huge key parts (Rush being one of them) was a huge disappointment. So since you didn't answer the first time, did you read the book? Because it was fantastic. The movie was fun, but far from fantastic.

BTW, do you know how to quote and reply in the same quote?

You just click below the last quote tab of the post you're replying to and reply. No need to make another post.

  5. Really good movie enjoy very much. One of his best. There is a 2112 poster in the movie and someone wears a 2112 T-shirt

Where have you been that this is new to you? You know it was adapted from the book, right? And the book had an entire part devoted to 2112 and Rush. The movie though enjoyable to watch is quite bland and dull compared w/ the book. Everything I knew and loved in the book are taken out.

Seriously, if you haven't read the book, you should.

  6. Countdown gives me pimples everytime, especially when the shuttle clears the tower + the voices from NASA control etc the band do such a great job with it so inspiring, mankind putting lives on the line for exploration and achievement, the track really makes me proud to be human

    *This magic day when super-science

Mingles with the bright stuff of dreams*

Young and Crippen really moving out now

velocity now reading 6200 feet per second

    Just awesome

I think if I ever was at an actual launch. I'd probably cry my eyes out. Something about it brings me to tears. Like the emotion of the event is just too much to contain. Sounds kind of stupid but I've had moments like this at Rush concerts. Standing there, emotion overwhelming me, feel myself well up. A shuttle launch would've been like that X 10.

  7. Neil was mostly a mediocre lyricist after HYF.

Neil's lyrics are usually either incredible or jaw-droppingly terrible. Not much in-between. More of the former than the latter, obviously, but there isn't much middle ground.

Neil's lyrics start being consistently awesome with Power Windows and generally get better throughout their career, culminating on Snakes & Arrows, which is the best collection of Neil Peart lyrics ever assembled. Neil's lyrics prior to Permanent Waves are largely uninspired, boring, and pedantic with few exceptions.

Should not agree, but kind of do.

    To wit...

    The hypocrites are slandering

    The sacred halls of Truth

    Ancient nobles showering

    Their bitterness on youth

    Can't we find

The minds that made us strong

    Can't we learn

To feel what's right and wrong

    :eyeroll:

What exactly is wrong with those lyrics?

    sophomoric

Could you give us an example of lyrics you don't find sophomoric?

    Dreams flow across the heartland...

Fantastic line. The whole song is lyrically fantastic!

    :eyeroll:

    Yeah, yeah...

We are conditioned to our responses.

  8. The whole song really but especially the last part...

    Wave after wave

    Will flow with the tide

And bury the world as it does

    Tide after tide

    Will flow and recede

    Leaving life to go on

    As it was

    Just one line?

    AG hates that line. ;)

    I do. I really do.

    So, so much.

    *snort* Talk about sophomoric...

But somehow I knew that was coming.

  12. You can't take it with you, Rushhead.

I mean, sure, you can hide it, bury it, and make it so absolutely disgusting so no one would want it.

But you can't take it with you.

  13. For the record, I love Kevin J. Anderson’s writing and don’t know why you are all hating on him.

He may have written some good books, but the only ones I've read were horrible. Even the best writers have flops, just like great bands put out the occasional bad album.

Kevin J. Anderson is a hack. Lazy, puerile, his dialog reads like a bad 6th grade play. His book version of Clockwork Angels is a work of literary buffoonery that I still, to this day, can't believe made it to publishing let alone sanctioned by Neil himself. He's just a seriously horrible writer. But, unfortunately, there are a lot of writers out there that despite not being particularly talented at writing, have published many books and maintain a steady fan base. God only knows why. :eyeroll:

  14. I could even get past it leaving out all but the briefest cameo Rush image appearances (same one showed twice in different places), but the soundtrack itself and what did make the cut was just forgettable.

My daughter asked me to go see it to see if I thought she could see it. I agree, it was pretty bland...very much like watching someone else play a video game. Regarding the Rush references, I saw two distinct ones:

The poster on the wall and Aech's T-shirt at the end.

Are those the same ones you saw?

    Yeah. That's them.
