I seen a guy drop Lifesons guitar during a switch after a string broke Grace Under Pressure Tour.

Was that show in Dayton OH? The GUP tour was my first Rush concert and I saw Alex break a string on YYZ. Neil also broke a snare head during the same show!

  2. There was a thread by........can't remember.........(one of the dudes here who is lucky enough to be in a Rush tribute band me thinks) that talked about him actually finding one of these Moog Taurus Bass pedals in a store and getting to play with it for a good hour or so. To his supprise, he was unable to find or replicate the sounds that Geddy and Alex were getting form these pedals. It was later explained that one of the Rush techs had essentially created MIDI before it even existed by rigging these pedals up such that they would trigger the synths that Geddy was using. The synth is where the sound you like so much came from and not the Taurus pedals. They were simply a trigger.

If anyone knows of the thread I am talking about, please link it here.

  3. There are some reviews. All pretty favorable. I looked at the switcher you are talking about and while it is great and will do the same thing the combinatior can, I prefer the combinator because it will sit on my new custom 25" x 35" pedalboard (making cable lenght shorter) and it gives me power for all my pedals.

The first combinator did have pops when switching between loops but the second version fixed that.

  4. Bah.....

I love my effects. You're right, tone comes from the fingers, guitar and amp and that is the foundation but you've gotta have some salt and pepper in there you know? That's the problem I am having right now, all my effect pedals are between me and the amp. With my GAS item, I will soon remedy that.

I'm getting one of THESE! That way the amp can shine and the effects can be the salt and pepper.

Great unit man. I was just looking at that yesterday. That should be really sweet. Can't wait to hear your review.

  5. Freakin awesome man. The guitar, bass and drums are right on the money. The keyboards are the closest match I have ever heard from any Rush tribute band. Your tone kicks ass!

I think there is a little too much reverb in some parts if you don't mind me saying ( I assume you are posting for some constructive criticism). And I think the singer needs to put more gut into his vocals. Really belt it out you know? He's hitting the notes OK but there is not enough feel in my opinion.

    Great job man.

Ok, i'm not normally into copying artists' sounds these days, but would those pedals produce the kind of fuzz Matt Bellamy uses? I know he has a fuzz factory but they're out of my range.

I'm not sure to be honest. I've never used a fuzz so I am not experienced.

Take a look at www.guitargeek.com . I'm a moderator over there. Do a search in the stompbox forum (you have to register to get the search function to work right) for Matt Bellamy and see what comes up.

There is also another site ....www.thegearpage.net which is a little more upscale. Those guys over there wouldn't dream of using a Boss pedal EVER! Kind of a bunch of tone snobs IMO but you can use the site to gather some great info.

I'd like to hear how it sounds. I'm looking for something with a seriously heavy tone - say like Godsmack or Disturbed. Could this be the one?

Those bands use distortion not fuzz. Lots and lots of heavy amp distortion. For that kind of tone, I would recommend a 12AX7 and EL34 based tube amp. Marshall, Mesa or Randall are the usual suspects.

  8. Sure I have some recommendations but first, let's get a price range from you. Also, how do you intend to use the pedal? Is it going to be your main dirt? Just for solos? Perhaps with a bass???

    Need more input.

  9. When asking about gear opinions, be sure to include a price range and the intended use. For example:

I need a USB mixer for home recording or a mic to record me playing guitar just for fun. My price range is $200.00.

That way, the dudes who respond will have these parameters and not offer suggestions about the high end gear they are used to dealing with.

  10. I think one of the important things to remember here is that when one of us asked a general question about mixers or mics or anything that has to do with producing recordings, it should be understood that we are asking about the stuff that is within a working mans price range and is designed for home recording and not professional production. We understand that we are going to get what we pay for but to us, this is just a hobby and not a career.

I respect both launchpad and Cyg as musicians and producers. I've heard what both of them can do and believe me, they are professionals. If you have not listened for yourself, you should. Listen to Cyg's link in his signature or the remix launchpad did for KirkDS's drum tracks. These guys know what they are talking about. Don't get offended when they offer an opinion, especially when you asked for it. Instead, take their opinion with the knowledge that they are used to working with high-end gear and not the hobbyist stuff us regular guys are used to using. The advice the offer is really, really good advice! It just may not apply to you.

Oh and for the record, I started playing guitar seriously to try to make the same sounds that Alex does. Not to create my own style or start a band or write music or become famous......I specifically want to play his music and sound a close to his early 80s sound as possible. If a tribute band thing were possible for me, I would do it in a heartbeat. I know I am a wannabe and I have accepted it. yes.gif
