Sam Ash here too
A drummer buddy and I have been looking around online and Sam Ash (he's getting a new kit too).
I know what I want to hear in a drum kit but being a smart bass player I am ultimately listening to my drummer friend.
Also note I am bass player but very new to drums, so, I can't really PLAY a kit to hear it (I need someone else to do that lol )
Thanks for all the advice!

Think I should return the Remo heads then? THey were over $120...
anyone have an answer for this? question 2: its there a huge difference between wrapped shells and painted ones?
-
oh, also of note we upgraded the cymbals:
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Sab...Pack?sku=448969
Sabian B8 Performance Cymbal Pack with Free Crash Features:
14" hi-hats
16" thin crash
20" ride
Free 18" thin crash
Coupon for Gibraltar long cymbal boom arm and grabber mutli-clamp
Save BIG when you buy today!
and good BLEEP! the 'student cymbals' that came with the kit sound horrible!
-
the drama continues:
So FedEx delivered 2 boxes this afternoon.
Totally trashed.
The kit was all dinged and scratched to hell, bent cymbals etc.
BLEEP!
So I called SurfCity and Dave there within one hour sent out a replacement *updgraded* Duke kit ($140 more) at no extra charge:
http://surfcitymusic.com/product/HB59-56
(Plus an extra boom for the ride cymbal like i already ordered)
We already started the claim to FedEx for the damages.
Dave was really cool about it all. Perfect customer service and I can be a hardass about that
question 1: What are "HB oil filled mylar heads" ? and should I upgrade the heads to Remo's anyway?
question 2: its there a huge difference between wrapped shells and painted ones?
Once I we get it set up i'll have my (real drummer) friend post what he thinks about the kit...
Thanks

QUOTE (Bluefunk @ Apr 24 2007, 11:48 AM) Maybe the debt is the burden of being doomed to repeating ourselves because we don't learn from history. (great thread btw, good song choice too)
"History's debt won't be repaid."
Maybe it means: Regardless of what an ascended society does NOW they can not repay for the deeds it took for them to get there. (ahem, American Indians...)
QUESTION:
"Ten score years ago, defeat the kingly foe"
Can anyone narrow down who/what year this is? Is Neil talking about the US/UK revolutionary war? (~1776?)

hey man, pass the bongo

QUOTE (Gedneil Alpeart @ Apr 13 2007, 09:32 AM) "Spindrift" -- Dark, midtempo tune. Not terribly melodic. "What am I supposted to say / What are the words to answer you / When you talk that way." Spin Drift: "What am I supposted to say..."
You can clearly hear this at the end of the Spin Drift sample on Rush.com

Faith does not always mean "faith" in *religion*.
"i don't have faith in faith" I think he means he does not have confidence in the verb 'Faith' as a tool or method of observation.
*edit*
I had a longer response but I'll just summarize it: Your opinion is totally retarded.

QUOTE (launchpad67a @ Apr 11 2007, 01:03 PM) You don't need a midi pickup.
http://messe.harmony-central.com/Musikmess...X-100-MkII.html -
Ok, so I went to a competitor of Guitar Center and found this awesome software:
http://www.finalemusic.com/printmusic/
Got it for $59.
The only issue is it is midi input ONLY (as Bluefunk said above) so I'll have to play keyboard to see the music created as I write it.
If I want to this on bass I'd have to add a Midi Pickup TO my bass, about $600.
I'm going to stick with the keyboard approach first and maybe add the midipickup on my acoustic bass later on.
thanks for the help
see ya

Yea...
What I do is write the vocal cues IN the tab so if I fall behind I can scan ahead in the tab to an upcoming vocal part.
But I always do have a hard time figuring out what the root notes are in the fills...
-
well i'm going to head down to guitar center and see what they have...

QUOTE (antifreeze @ Apr 11 2007, 08:52 AM) Freewill. It sounds hard, but it's actually easy. The solo section might be tough, but if you practice, you'll be able to play it.It's also really fun,you feel like you've accomplished something. but there are tons of crazy bass fills in Free Will, I can hear every note in my head (from memory), but I can't play it.
unless there is a way to cheat those fills? maybe just play the root notes? (i can never find the root notes )
-
I am waaay out of practice
So I'm just looking for suggestions of easier bass songs.
Songs that are easier but also have a fast part THAT YOU CAN CHEAT ON will work too (those dam fills are so hard! )
I have no problem with time changes/odd times (Jacobs Ladder FTW )
How Easy? I can play Tom Sawyer but my hands cramp on the repeating fast part...
Thanks!
-
found this while looking for a new bass rig...
http://www.guitarcenter.com/peart/
I am SO glad I play bass or I'd have to sell my car....
-
as a side note I do have a kick bootie X-FI Sound Blaster card...
-
Cool, All look very powerful, some expensive
But all I want to do is record bass only (1 track) and have the software SHOW ME what I just played by notation and/or tabulature without paying for a whole studio software system.
Any of the above actually do this specifically?
Thanks!
