I really like Islay stuff. Laphroaig and Ardbeg. I have not yet had Lagavulin 16 and have been tempted to buy a bottle. It is about $76 dollars versus $38 dollars for Laphroaig. Is Lagavulin worth the almost $40 difference?

I got a bottle of The Macallan 12 this weekend and tried it again. This time around I enjoyed it much more than the first time I had it. Although it is not one of favorite Speyside drams, it is pretty good.

LaphroaigYes those two are great, but only Laphroaig is under $40.

For me, single malts are: Highland Park 12, Glemorangie 10, Laphroaig 10, Scapa 14, Old Pulteney 12, Cragganmore 12, Bowmore Legend to name a few. All of these are under $40 in my area.
As for some cheaper excellent blends: Black Bottle NAS, Islay Mist, Teacher's Highland Cream, White Horse, Johnnie Walker Black Label

QUOTE (Dread Pirate Robert @ Feb 1 2008, 08:46 PM) Guinness is perhaps the most overrated beer in the history of mankind. I use to think that as well. It is definately a beer that requires several tastings to really appreciate it. That pretty much goes for any stout. I remember the first few times drinking it thinking it was seriously lacking in taste. I had to drink "black and tans" for the extra flavor. Now, just give me the "black" and I am very happy!
