Xanadu is the song I first heard in 10th grade, using headphones, that solidified Rush’s appeal to me. As for some calling it soft, it is soft and hard. The last measure of the song is bombastic, not soft!
An added bonus for me came in 12th grade, when we studied the poem Kubla Kahn in English class, of which Peart was inspired by, to write Xanadu. It has always been the epic (and I hate that word) Rush song for me. And while Olivia Newton John’s version isn’t the same caliber song, it was written by Jeff Lynne of ELO. And Olivia is a fox, so that helps.
