  1. I've been kinda playing around, so to speak, with scales for quite a while, but just recently I'm really focusing on them and getting started in the world of music theory. Wow there is alot to learn with both scales and theory yes.gif I've got the blues scale down in a few different keys and now I'm working on the Natural Minor scale aka Aeolian Mode. It leaves a bit more room for error when trying to improvise tongue.gif
  2. This has probably been mentioned before but...

    The song: Freewill

The time: 4:01 till 4:13 (right after one of the best solos of all time)

I love how Alex plays the one arpeggio differently than all the other times.

    Very tasty yes.gif

Ya, what's the deal with all the negativity?? Sarcastic or not. They are going on tour and there is new music coming out. I don't see anything negative about that. Personally I am very excited about the whole ordeal. Can't wait to see them again. I was really hoping for a tour this year and things are looking good. As Rush "fans" should we not all be pumped about this? Come on people  cheer.gif

  5. I've been to a few alone. Don't mind it one bit. It allows me to go about things the way I want to. Showing up nice and early, taking my sweet time at the merchandise table, singing loudly/waving arms frantically, crying, laughing whatever I feel like.

A big plus in going alone for me is not having to deal with my friends who always like to consume LARGE amounts of beer at shows and then either pass out during the concert or leave to go to the freakin' bathroom every 15 minutes. Or they are going to get food, asking me questions about the band/songs, texting/talking on their cell pones, taking pictures and then going insane when the camera's batteries die or standing up in the middle of the show and searching frantically, while nearly in tears, for their cell phone even though it's simply UNDER HIS SEAT!!! Or, quite possibly the worst, my one buddy likes to pretend that he knows the words to the songs and then proceeds to either "sing along" or lip sync them even though he really had NO IDEA what they are. In most cases he just ends up moving his mouth randomly. It looks really really stupid.

Needless to say, in most cases, I'd much rather attend a concert alone. Or maybe I just need to get some new friends laugh.gif In either case, I've actually got a few shows coming up that I'll be flying solo at. Porcupine Tree and Jethro Tull. Can't wait!!!

Opeth is the only band I enjoy listening to that has growling vocals, at least thus far.

I just find it impossible to get past those vox.

I used to hate them too, and as for every other band, I still do but when it comes to Opeth, I can tolerate them. Even when I first started to listen to Opeth, I didn't like the harsh vocals but they are starting to grow on me. Slowly. The thing with Opeth is that the music is so excellent, and the clean and acoustic passages are so beautiful that I can deal with a bit, or in some cases alot, of growling. Plus Mikael's clean voice is amazing.

I'm just surprised I didn't get into Opeth sooner. It wasn't until just recently that I've really been listening to them. I guess it makes sense though, I heard the vocals and didn't even give them a chance.

  7. Open Secrets. The riff Alex plays, first heard at 0:21 and then several more times throughout the tune. So simple and yet so amazing. Sends chills down my spine every time. Same with the riff in Mission. Excellent.
  8. I currently have an LG Masterpiece. Nothing too fancy, nice and small, sleek. However I must say how amazingly tough and durable this phone is. I've dropped it numerous times and it's still going strong. It's biggest test, so far, came when I managed to completely submerge it water doh.gif and then proceeded to throw it around/smash it off various things in my room out of frustration no.gif But after 24 hours in a container of rice, it emerged just like new! Except for a few scratches of course ha ha
