  1. Odds are we will get a complete representation of the 2012 leg of the CA tour.

Meaning, it will appear as though it is one show with ALL the alternates in correct order.

Yep, I agree with this. The finished product will be a 2 dvd set featuring the best versions from the 2 shows.

From what I've seen and heard, I think there will be way more songs from the Phoenix show than from Dallas. The Dallas show had some issues, while the Phoenix show was absolutely flawless. We'll see.

No reason to speculate about the dvd though, it will be put together just like any other live recording...the best versions make the cut. Although in this case they only have 2 versions of each song to choose from.

  2. I'm a Pho fanatic! It's quite possibly my favorite thing to eat and I have it once a week. Lots of places serve it here in Phoenix but the Viet Kitchen is only a mile from my house so we go there mostly.

Best Pho I've ever had was at Miss Saigon in Tucson. Heaven in a bowl. So good, we call the place "soup church"!

  3. Saw this a few days ago and it's very impressive! The level of clarity is stunning and if you know where to search you can find camps one and two, plus many climbers.

Just last week my band played a gig for Brian O'Connor, son of supreme court justice Sandra Day O'Connor. Brian has summited Everest and all "seven summits". He has an expedition room in his house with tons of amazing things in it, including all his Everest plaques, oxygen bottles, dive to the Titanic certificates, too many cool things.

He gave me a prayer scarf that he took to the summit in 2003. One of the coolest things anyone has ever given me.

  4. I'm glad you reconsidered my suggestion. The PA is the most important part of the band and you'll only sound as good as the PA. The PA doesn't need to be huge or expensive, just full and clean.

As for your monitor, I would seriously consider getting a 'powered cab'. Maybe sell your current cab, then find a used JBL or Mackie powered 15" cab (15" speaker + horn). This eliminates the need to carry power amps around, which sucks. Using your current monitor cab (with power amp) as a sub for the PA won't work right because the cabinet needs to be crossed over ( 140hz or below for sub frequencies) and this requires additional gear. If you can't get a powered cab for your monitor, then buy a mid-priced Crown Amp that has a power rating slightly above the rating of that cabinet. Meaning, if the cab is rated at 400 watts, get an amp rated at least 450 watts or more. Crown makes the best power, don't think otherwise.

As for a PA sub cab...JBL, EV and Mackie all make great powered 18" subs. Adding just 1 sub to your current PA will do wonders for the mix.

My entire PA, including monitors, is self powered and modular. It's literally 'plug and play' and makes set up so easy. It sets up in less than 15 minutes and doesn't require power amps or crossovers. They are all built-in to the cabs.

  5. My 2 cents here.... It would seem that the PA you're using is more of an issue than your personal drum monitor. If you're willing to spend $1000 then why not upgrade the PA? If you're relying on your drum monitor to project the entire drum mix on it's own (to the room), that is unrealistic, and you'll never get the thump or fullness needed. You would have to be so loud on stage to get that sound out to the room, and you don't want that. A 'monitor' is exactly what it is, a personal monitor to hear yourself and the other instruments/vocals.

Running everything (all instruments) through the PA is the preferred way to go, even in small venues. But at a minimum you always need to run vocals and drums through the PA. At least kick and snare that is. So upgrading the PA to at least 2 - powered tops, and 2 - powered subs would be the best solution for the entire band. This way the band can keep the stage volume down, let the PA do the work, and you won't need tons of monitor for yourself. Make sense?

I know this probably isn't the answer you wanted, but I can assure you it's the better way to approach this, in the big picture.

  6. Look at it this way...Tablets 'consume' content, while Laptops and desktops produce content. It looks like you favor the consumption end wanting to Facebook, Skype, YouTube, act...

The new Kindle Fire HD is a great machine but it's Not a true tablet. It's still an ebook reader, with many extras. All tablets can view ebooks, but can also do much more.

Spend a little more and get a real tablet. You'll be glad you have all the extra features and functions.

Sorry, but have to disagree about it being a great track.
    For me, it's cringeable.

Being gay myself, this song presents itself as a straight man writing about how "cool" he is with gay people.  And failing.

Neil could (and really, should) have written a deeper analysis of the plague that was, and is, HIV.
To me, it comes across as twee.
As another fail for me, Geddy doesn't sound convincing in his vocal. "Nobody's Hero" would have been far more powerful if it was in the style of "Losing It" or "The Pass", both of which deal with emotive situations far better.

I don't think you understand the song. The song is about people who have played important roles in others' lives, or who have undergone struggles of their own, but aren't considered traditional "heroes". I have no idea if the man died of AIDS or not, but he was a "hero" to Neil for showing Neil a world and an understanding that he didn't have before, living in his small corner of Canada.

You can't hate the song for not being about a subject you want a song about. Judge it for what it is. I'm not saying you have to like it, but your criticism seems odd, to say the least.

Right on...This is exactly what the song is about. How can anyone see it any other way?

I like this tune, both music and lyrics. Powerful and melodic.
