  1. COCO.

I was bawling. Who else saw it?

(By the way, I apologize, but there was one scene where the main character's guitar was- SPOILER ALERT!- destroyed. All I could think about was "FORGET ABOUT YOUR SILLY WHIM/IT DOESN'T FIT THE PLAN!")

And, tell me, and therefore not just the type

Look around and look at who is laughing at the last

Words that do not have much

Spare me, me, whom I stood up,

    Best I Can

I do not find an absolute decision

    In my rational position

    Perhaps some things are instinctive

But there is one thing you can do

You can try to understand me-

I can try to understand you.

    Distant Early Warning?

  3. I've realized something.

There's basically no point in me making these Freewill in 2112 threads when the show as a whole will probably never come to fruition. This is for three reasons:

1: I have no idea where Geddy, Alex and Neil live- okay, I know they live in Toronto and LA, but I don't know EXACTLY where they live. As in their houses.

2: Even if I DID know, there'll be the entire problem of rights and securing them, and God only knows how protective Neil is of the rights to his lyrics. Not to mention Geddy and Alex. Hopefully, they'd be flattered that anyone would make a musical based on their music, but there's always the chance...

3: MY FAMILY IS NOT CANADIAN. I am not Canadian. I will probably never meet Geddy, Alex or Neil unless I got REALLY lucky.

    So... is this the end?

Will I have to salvage my dreams?

I was brought up to believe

    Belief has failed me now...

The point is, if I ever want this musical to be real, I would have to meet, and DIRECTLY talk to, Geddy, Alex and Neil, since they wrote the songs and, therefore, own the rights. The chances of that happening are slim to NONE.

Well, never give up on a dream! I hope that you get to meet Geddy, Alex, and maybe even Neil someday; it seems like you have put a lot of time into your musical.

You seem to like to get the details right, though, so I hope I don't seem like Debbie Downer if I let you know that Geddy, Alex, and Neil, if I understand correctly, don't own the copyrights/publishing rights to their music anymore. They sold the rights to that stuff to Ole, a Canadian company, in 2014. I think at the time Ray Danniels their manager said something about it being retirement planning. I should have listened more closely! https://www.musicbusinessworldwide.com/ole-acquires-rushs-music-publishing-company/

Don't give up hope, though. In the U.S., you can use a musical work for a limited time for educational or research purposes under the fair use part of copyright law (although people often ask the owner's permission first.) Maybe Canada has something similar and if you put your musical on as part of a workshop or something with a school you could get permission.

Oh. I didn't know that Geddy, Alex, and Neil gave away their copyright.

The law says nothing about copyrighted music being used for entertainment purposes, though. Canada has a similar law, but it also has fair use for parodies and satires. Freewill in 2112 is neither- it's a TRIBUTE. This is meant to be a THANK-YOU to RUSH for 40+ years of great music. (Technically, though, it's also used as a political message to the American people, but the show will probably make it to Broadway long after the political undertones can no longer be applied...)

Thanks for your kind words. That said, though, I still will probably never meet whoever owns Ole.

  6. My family and I almost went to R40 in Philly, but it was too expensive. Now I wish we could have gone, knowing that it would be the end of 40 years and that I would almost certainly never see RUSH in concert again... :(

I really want to meet RUSH now... Geddy Lee is a gentleman... :( :( ❤️

Probably the only way that will ever happen is if FI2112 (Freewill in 2112, my RUSH-based musical) ends up becoming a thing, but that will probably never happen... and if it does, Geddy, Alex, and Neil will probably all be dead... and I'll have no way to get in contact with them when I'm old enough to have my own house and what not... meaning I'll never be able to speak to Neil and pay him his royalties and get all the rights to his lyrics... :(

    (There's a theme here...)

Not quite sure of the theme other than that all the songs have been played live before. Or the theme could be to stick it to Neil as there is no drum solo listed.

The theme is this: Every number you see above you is either currently, or was a part of, my RUSH-based musical Freewill in 2112. The cut songs were "Afterimage," "BBB," "Subdivisions," "The Trees," and "Entre Nous." Remove those songs, and you have the current song list for the show.

Can you guess what it is? (And no, it's not the fact that there are so many audience participation numbers- the audience will sing to prevent Geddy from shooting his voice out permanently. Though, come to think of it, a sing-along RUSH concert? That would actually be pretty fun... though the audience would have to be assured beforehand that Geddy is NOT getting replaced!)
