  1. Problem with the Marlins is they make too many errors. Seriously, three errors in an inning against the Mutts on Opening Day? Marlins were one of the top two teams in errors last couple of years. I shudder to think how many close games they have lost because of errors...
  2. Some fast facts about Michael Vick and the Case of the Bad Newz Kennels:

    1. Vick's cousin was the one that turned him in. Michael was going to let his cousin and other family members take the fall for this entire situation, angering several.

    2. Vick is originally from Hampton Roads, VA, which is not exactly the big city. It's a largely ghetto area near Newport News, VA, which I hear is also not very savory these days.

    3. Prior to this incident, there were a few others: the water-bottle incident at the airport in Miami, the picture of him holding a blunt in a limo that appeared in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the finger flip-off incident, and the missed appearance before Congress.

    4. The NFL did not suspend Vick, although the Atlanta Falcons might.

    5. Upon conviction, his career could be in serious jeapoardy.

  3. Here in West Central Georgia, it was beautiful all weekend, Atlanta included. Some people are probably making plans to move to Atlanta based on the weather they experienced here while on vacation. Problem is, this is the first decent weather we've had on Thanksgiving since the late '60s! Usually, it is cold and rainy here on Thanksgiving. Boy, are those people gonna be disappointed when they move here!
  4. Hmmm...sounds like the start of the New Prohibition!

The tax revenue streams that this will generate for the state and the state's so-called concern for life is all well and good, but whatever happened to personal responsibility? If someone wanders into traffic and gets hit and killed because he's drunk, it's his own damn fault! This whole thing is just absolutely ridiculous! wtf.gif

Make no mistake, it's all about the almighty dollar. Remember, the State of Texas took in a great majority of hurricane evacuees from New Orleans and the strain that the evacuees have put on the state and local budgets has pushed them to the breaking point, and it's just so interesting that they suddenly discovered that this law was on the books and not being enforced. Some states have special committees that will go looking thru state law looking for things like this just so they can figure out how to get more money out of us. Here in Georgia, we do have a state income tax, but since our politicians don't know how to stop spending our money, the same thing is just as likely to happen.

  5. I read a longer version of that story...San Antonio is making a pitch to keep the Saints there permanently, however the NFL is not interested in San Antonio. They would rather have the Saints in LA because it is the 2nd largest TV market in the country, and they have not had a team there since the Raidaz left in 1994. However, what might be more likely to happen is the Hornets might stay in Oklahoma City permanently. This is an area that has never had a major league team in any sport based there, and they have two or three successful college basketball programs nearby in OU, OSU, and Tulsa. They are also rabid supporters of their minor leage teams: Oklahoma RedHawks (AAA team of Texas Rangers, formerly known as the OKC '89ers), and the Oklahoma City Blazers of the Central Hockey League.

Other indications that this will come to pass: Owner George Shinn has already bought a home in the OKC area, secured a domain name (www.okchornets.com), started advertising the team as the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets, and bought uniforms with OKC as the home team on them. I guess only time will tell, but one thing to consider: Oklahoma City offers the Hornets no competition for the entertainment dollar, and Okies do have some money to spend (ever been to Lake Hefner?) The Ford Center, where the Hornets will play, is definitely NBA-quality, and it is situated in a shopping/retail district known as Brick town. For you Atlantans, it is a combo of Buckhead and Atlantic Station. Only time will tell...

  6. Are you ready for this?

    1999 Daewoo Leganza SE

Now, I know what you're thinking (what a POS). But, with a Daewoo, there's more than meets the eye to them. After the Asian financial collapse of 2000, the company finally agreed to be bought by General Motors in 2002. (The part of them that they didn't already own.) This was after heavy bidding by DaimlerChrysler, Ford, Toyota and several other companies. The reasons for Daewoo's demise:

    1. Corrupt CEO pulling an Enron type of crime and felling the country. The South Korean authorities are still looking for him.

    2. The horrible Asian economy at the time.

    3. Since the early 70's, Daewoo has been sort of a "captive import" company to General Motors, due to a joint venture that was started in 1973. You could have driven a Daewoo and not even known it! Daewoo has made cars for several other companies, too! here are some examples:

1989-1993 Pontiac Lemans and GSE, and Opel Kadett = Daewoo Nexia and Daewoo Racer

2004-present Suzuki Verona = Daewoo Magnus (formerly Leganza)

2004-present Suzuki Forenza = Daewoo Nubira

2004- present Suzuki Reno (wagon) = Daewoo Nubira (wagon)

2004-present Chvrolet Aveo = Daewoo Kalos

There are others, but here's a general list of companies that Daewoo has built cars for:

Buick, Chevrolet, Pontiac, Opel, Vauxhall, Holden(Australian GM), FSO, SEAT, ZAZ...

In a typical Daewoo, there are more GM components than anything GM makes in the United States.

In my Leganza, here's a rundown:

Engine: Holden (GM Australia) an an interpretation of a Mazda design tha twas licensed to Holden), Transmission: Toyota Electric: GM Chassis: GM, tuned by Lotus (another GM division).

Daewoo is now known as GMDAT (General Motors/Daewoo Automotive Technology) and is owned jointly by Holden (58%), Suzuki (30%), and SIAC (General Motors China) (12%). Sadly, the only place that Daewoos are called Daewoos is South Korea!

Anyways, back to my car...I have had one problem with this car, and that is that the oil pump went bad and lunched the engine. It wasn't the car's fault, I bouth it used (as a repo) and apparently, the previous owner never changed the oil. I drive 108mi/day round trip to and from work, and it never has given me any trouble in the 40,000 miles I have put on it(after the oil pump) so far. However, due to being hit by a truck, it now looks pretty ugly. I'll post a picture when I get one.
