  1. I have mixed feelings over this. It would have been nice to give us Europeans a propper goodbye. Maybe we even deserved it. We stucked with them through the years and even after their 12 year hiatus we gave them a warm welcome back in 2004 with many sold out shows around Europe.

The NA-fans must have a blast experiencing the R40-tour. Seeing the tour on YouTube became a daily job for me, but at the same time made me sad when it became clear that there wasn't gonna be a European leg (I could't afford to go over the pond). It would have been a nice closure for all of us.

If the band decides that this is the end of the road, so be it. I don't think dat we can't blame anyone for this. They are in their sixties and if one of them is done touring we'll have to accept it.

No hard feelings from me here.

But being a diehard fan since 1977 I would have enjoyed the R40 show so much...

  2. For me 50/50. I really like the rawness of Summertime Blues and For What it's Worth. But Shapes & Things and Crossroads hmmm....not so much. Crossroads as an encore during the 30th Anniversary Tour was really a partypooper.

    Wow, what a list.

I'm not familiar with the distances between those cities, but I'll guess you've travelled a lot to see these gigs !

Apart from the California shows the rest are within 6 hours drive. Permanent Waves was during Spring break, but I did skip out on quite a bit of school.

    Oh ok.

Holland is a small country so travelling to the gigs is real easy.

Rush played the Ahoy in Rotterdam several times and thats 30 minutes by car for me. During the CA-tour they played the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam, thats an hour drive and for the Pinkpop show I travelled three hours by train.

  6. A lot of people like Pinkpop. Patrick is a celebrity of sorts. "You mean you were really there???" :laughing guy:

    Yep, I was really there.

17 years old and all by myself cause no one in my neighborhood liked Rush.

So here we are, 36 years later and nothing has changed !!

At work and to friends I still have to explain what Rush is all about.

  7. June 4th 1979 - Pinkpop Festival, Geleen Holland (with o.a The Police on the bill)

Nov 14th 1981 - Ahoy Arena, Rotterdam Holland (support act Girlschool)

May 3th 1983 - Ahoy Arena, Rotterdam Holland (support act Vandenberg)

    Welcome Patrick !

Patrick, can you remember if RUSH opened with Anthem at Pinkpop ?

The bootlegs have the first song as A Passage To Bangkok, which, to me, is not the song they would have opened with . . .

Anyways, welcome to the board and congrats on seeing what is probably my all-time favorite RUSH performance

Hello Lucas, thankx for welcoming me.

Yes, they opened with Anthem. I think Passage to Bangkok was next but i'm not really sure of that.

  8. Concerts used to consist of waiting outside in the cold and wet, or hot steamy weather for hours. Then a mad rush as thousands of people crushed together to get in the doors and running down the stairs to the arena floor to get as close to the stage as you could. You had to stand there as everyone packed in like sardines. Not always a pleasant thing to be squeezed in with that many people especially since it could get quite warm. Arena air conditioning didn't work that well with so many people so close together. Then you had all the pot smoke. Especially once the concert started. It would be very difficult for any security person to find out where it was coming from so the air was soon full of smoke. Since they've had assigned seating and chairs on the floor, with aisles and rows, it's become so very staid and laid back. You can actually leave your place and go to the restroom and come back to the same place you were before without worrying that you'll lose your spot. The biggest difference I noticed when I took a few years off from going to concerts was the cleanliness of the air. Going to a concert now days is more like going to a movie. It's a bit less of an experience, but probably a safer one.

Over here in Holland its still all standing in front of the stage. We still smoke pot and when someone returns fom the toilettes he or she has 3000 men/women in front of him/her...:-)

With Rush gigs all standing is no problem, because everybody on the floor is very laidback. There is no "pit" or something like that.

  9. Thankx Lorraine and CygnusGal for welcoming me.

Pinkpop 79 was really awesome. A very hot day and Rush played a magnificent show.

Other bands were The Police, Dire Straits en Elvis Costello while Peter Tosh was headlining the day. He should perform his big hit "Don't look back" with Mick Jagger but when Jagger arrived and saw the cameras he turnes around and went back to the hotel.
