  1. Instead of calling it the synth era, we should be calling it the "Wimpy Guitar" era.

More like the "Alex gets screwed" era...

In my opinion his best guitar work was during this era, name a decent guitar solo on VP there isn't one?

  2. When I was 14 my friends had Rush albums, I was into ACDC then and especially Iron Maiden and the scorpions, I didn't care too much for the Rush stuff and found it a bit boring. My Mother used to buy a Womens weekly publication which had a order form in for The Britania Music Club, you could order Albums on approval you had 28 days to make your mind up whether you wanted to keep the album or not? If you wanted it you paid for it, if not you returned it? I asked her if I could order something but there was nothing really in there only about 5 Rock albums, Moving Pictures was in there so reluctantly I ordered it. When it arrived I played it, it was vinyl I thought Mmm not sure played it again and thought this is almost likable, eventually played it so many times I fell in love with it. In 1982 aged 16 I bought Signals on Cassette, I mainly played only that album for a year I adored it and still revere it today as the best album they ever made.
  3. I love the album as much as anything they've ever done...and that song is a particularly strong one, I love it. It's a mystery to me why they've never played it live.

Just like it's a mystery why they've never played Emotion detector, the guitar solo on that is awesome!!!

  4. This may have been discussed before not sure? But I find no evidence of this brilliant song off the superb but vastly underrated 'Hold Your Fire' album ever being performed live, I was at the 'Show Of Hands' concert in Birmingham in 88 and was surprised it wasn't played then?

  5. The Pass, Bravado, The Fountain of Lamneth, Digital Man, Chemistry (if it counts), Carve Away the Stone, Armor and Sword, Faithless, Marathon, Territories.

    The Fountain! That hurts.

I don't really loathe it but it's probably the song loved by hardcore fans I could most do without.

    MARATHON!?!?

I guess I can understand Digital Man. I love that song to death but it's very odd.

It's a great track and Chemistry even better wonderful guitar solos

  6. 1. Signals, 2. Power Windows, 3. Hold Your Fire, 4. Moving Pictures, 5. Roll The Bones, 6. Grace Under Pressure. Signals gets the nod for me because some of Lifesons best guitar solos are on that album, I think his best work was across these albums especially the 80s stuff, maybe he thought he had to be more expressive because of the heavy use of keyboards which I applauded, Rush have lost something since the 80s, it's all gone pretty flat since with the worst album being the dreadful Vapor Trails with no guitar solos of note. All the other stuff is ordinary and couldn't rank them apart from sticking VP at the bottom of the pile.
