I don't see how 2002-2015 was a Rush overload.

 

Looking at the 74-85 time frame shows you there's no rest for the wicked.

Alex Lifeson is my only pick. Was never big into guitar, although I always enjoyed bands that had melodic rides in my metal days.

 

Alex's playing is about as deliberate, precise and melodic as it gets. It's almost like he can convey emotion through the notes.

I like Bruce and Paul equally. Paul took them down a darker path, you can hear a tone shift in Number of the Beast in very similar fashion to the transition between Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets.

I was actually astonished at Bruce. His voice hasn't changed since the 80s. Watching him spring from one end of the stage to the other, climb onto a set piece, sprint across said set piece and jump in the air, hitting the ground 4 feet under him like it's nothing.

 

Makes me wonder if Neil was really in so much pain or if his feeling of contentment concerning CA and passion for writing convinced him to move on.

Meh, I'm doomed to never find another band like Rush.

 

Iron Maiden just wrapped up about 6 hours ago at the same venue I saw Such Rush exactly 2 years and 5 days ago.

 

I was all excited to get there and it persisted until showtime. Ghost was the opener and let's just say they seem a bit too try hard with the gimmick and don't put much enthusiasm into their act.

 

Maiden on the other hand was great. I haven't purchased one of their albums since A Matter of Life and Death. After sampling their newer songs The Trooper followed Powerslave came up and kept me on my toes the rest of the show.

 

Other than that I didn't feel anywhere near as enthused or amped this time around, except for arriving at the venue and aside from the familiarity of the location, the way the sky looked as the sun began to set immediately reminded me of a picture one of my friends snapped of the sky from the parking lot of R40.

 

After coming home and looking at videos and admiring my "Killers" Book of Souls shirt I just feel dissatisfied, like a big chunk of something was missing. :(

Dude, no disrespect but nothing compares to Rush. They're one of those VERY RARE bands that can't be replaced, nor would I willfully allow any other band to do so.

 

Hopefully a few hundred years down the line one of my descendents will play Rush for alien species and unite the galaxy. :P

I totally jumped at the chance to hear this before finishing reading. I skipped to :40 instead of 4:00. Placed the phone to my ear only to have Neil hit the crotales. Think I pooped on myself.

Segue, I did the same thing. Passed on CA in 2013 due to an emergency work meeting that got canceled a few hours before the show.

 

And GotNeil I feel for you man. I never thought I'd get to see them live unless they dropped another album. I loaded up the CC as soon as R40 tix went on sale

Yeah I remember coming home from R40 and having a dream that it happened all over again. Ive never left a show in such a euphoric state before, let alone one that I felt for weeks afterwards.

 

Hoping to have the same thing happen when I see Maiden in June. I've always been a fan of detailed music that tells a story. Rime of the Ancient Mariner introduced me to multi thematic musical pieces, Xanadu perfected it.

La Villa. Come on now, how often do you hear a rock n roll piece written in classical format?

 

 

3 stars. Great opening to the album, however Grand Designs and Middletown Dreams are the shining stars of PW.

Hopefully they'll pull a Tupac and release new music from the proverbial grave.

Very true Lucas, I like to think of it as Rush being the voice that whispered into my ear telling even I fell on my way out of the mental Hell I confined myself to that giving up and going back to my old ways wasn't an option.

As do I, I remember a few months after R40 concluded there were numerous threads on here blaming Neil for the bands retirement. My response always was and still is they've earned it, let them be.

 

That being said, I don't wish they'd come out of retirement anywhere near as much as I wish they'd never have retired to begin with.

Agreed. However after watching Clockwork Angels in Dallas I think Ged sounded better during R40. That year off seemed to help quite a bit.

You've spoken too soon J2112YYZ, as soon as I posted this thread I threw some popcorn in the microwave and put Time Stand Still in the PS3.

 

I've tried listening to other favorites, few days is all I can go without going through Rush withdrawals.

I drive my Buick like it's a sports car, does that count? :P
