  1. Great convo on this thread

Bathory I wish i were younger as I think a bunch of the music you talk about would be right up my alley as a younger man. I still listen to the occasional Megadeth or Metallica and Im a big fan of Mastadon (as is my 8 year old). I can still get down with some Fates and am looking forward to the new DTbut they arent as much a favorite as a band that I do remotely follow. Im more a prog guy who still listens to Maiden on the regular so I can appreciate what they (DT). do as an older metal fan.

  2. KISS is here making millions. they fire drummers when they become little bitches. what's a band that gets bossed around by a bitch drummer? oh yeah... rush

You are still here. Didn't I tell you to get your shine box?

"“For Farewell, we had some younger artists contribute versions of songs for that album, including Big Wreck, Billy Talent and Foo Fighters. But this time we wanted to do something different, so we dug deep into the archives over here at Anthem and were able to come up with a really cool live concert almost in its entirety from the Pink Pop Festival in 1979. In terms of a choice of rarities, this was a recording where if you searched diligently you might have been able to find bits and pieces of it online from people who had recorded it. We worked closely with the Pink Pop Festival and a radio station and television station in the Netherlands that broadcasted it and got the full show. Which was really cool, because Elvis Costello was on the bill, and so were The Police – a very eclectic lineup in 1979,” he explained."

"As a true fan of Rush, Curran takes the job of compiling and re-releasing material very seriously, because he knows first hand the loyalty of the band’s fans and the high standards to which Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson and Neil Peart wish their legacy to be persevered. But it’s also boatloads of fun being able to metaphorically and even literally root through the attic of your favourite band, finding hidden and long lost gems.

“There are times when I am literally pinching myself because, first off, I can’t believe I am actually working with these guys, and secondly that they trust me with it. It’s like being part of their inner circle. And then it’s so amazing to find something that no one has ever seen or heard before. When you find something the is unique and special, it’s very cool. There is some visual stuff that I am going through right now, that they documented during the time when I was literally a kid buying tickets and going to see them. One of the reasons I bought a Rickenbacker was because of Geddy Lee. My God, its like being a kid in a candy store at times,” he said.

“My job is to make sure that we keep the integrity of what that band did and deliver first class stuff. Anything I find always has to go back to those guys for approval. Recently I found a recording from a hotel of something they did and Geddy looked at me after hearing it and said, ‘the world can never hear that.’”

There will not be a 40th anniversary Rush re-issue in 2019, with the next one come in 2020 with a Permanent Waves package, but Curran said his boss at Ole, Robert Ott, has lot of projects for him..."

Does he know the Pink Pop show has been "available" more more than 30 years?

My confidence level on these just took another major hit.

Hopefully he wasn't referring to Sir Gawain...cuz there HAS to be a version of that somewhere.

  4. Hey Rod. Ask Jordan who the girl in Treeducks sig is.

Oh I see you did the interview already. I dont think I’ve ever actually heard him talk. I actually had a serious question but perhaps it was gone over already.

Chances are that I'll be talking to James LaBrie soon, so I can always ask HIM your question. Will that work?

I was wondering how much Rudess was involved in the DT composition process, if his skills were more as an arranger or does he feel he acts as more of colorist a la Rick Wright of Pink Floyd. Maybe this has been answered before. I don't read too much of the press on them though I do like their music.

That is somewhat addressed in the interview: https://lotsofmuzic....4RDE9eI6ThUnuWo

    You rock, Rod.

RUSH have always been derivative, and unapologetically so. They're up front about how they've been influenced by other musicians (even if many fans aren't).

Paradoxically, RUSH are also remarkably inventive and have managed to borrow from others and create something decidedly unique sounding...albums that simultaneously echo the Police and yet sound nothing like that band, for example.

    RUSH are musical alchemists.

This is where Rush are different to Dream Theater. I know the Rush sound but I don't know what the f**k makes DT special lol

And not every single band has to be "Special" to be enjoyable, lol.

Sorry i have a headache today.

Yes but is it your favorite?

  7. For a long time I thought the one line in How It Is was "windy days as far as you can see" instead "when today's as far as you can see"

It seemed to make sense lol

I love mis-heard lyrics, haha! I know there are some that I still haven't figured out and usually just mumble my own nonsense as I sing along. One of my favorites is non-Rush, "Big old Jed had a rhino", (Big old jet airliner) by Steve Miller ;)

No. Its obviously, “Bingo Jed had a light on”. Sheesh, newbies ;)

  8. My read is Neil's decision is final and Gedy would like to consider to continue as a working musician somehow. He just has to think whether a Lee/Lifeson Project is a viable thing or go it alone. I think a certain amount of Rush fans would be interested in a solo Lee touring but it would have to be scaled down considerably. Lee/Lifeson I imagine could play 2 500 seaters throughout NA.

Oh and treeduck..who is that angel in your sig?

Hes not saying. I get the feeling she doesn’t really exist. A bit like the chance Rush will ever tour again.

  9. I thought Counsell was going to overmanage his team right out of the playoffs. Hopefully they go strong tonight. I just don't think I want to care about a World Series between the Red $$$$o$$$$$ and the Dodger$$$cango$$$$uckmyroyala$$$hole.

Craig Counsell has a lot of fans as well as critics here in Brewer Land. I am definitely not a fan of his "outgetter" strategy. Starting pitchers should always be expected to go 6 innings or longer.

My only major criticism of Counsell in this series is when he had Jeffress pitch in Game 3. Jeffress almost blew the game AGAIN, after pitching poorly in Games 1 and 2. Overall, his players let him down. The relievers blew Game 2, and the offense really blew it in Game 4.

The Brewers' wealth of good relievers is a blessing. The team is fortunate to have no ego problems in the pitching staff. To my knowledge, no pitcher worries about personal stats - wins and saves. They all just want to win.

I can say the same about My A's. Of course the pitching staff was held together by screws, the bullpen was amazing for the most part.

If you have several stud relievers, you might as well use them! If you don't, they will go stale.

Ultimately, no manager can be criticized for using them. Winning is the goal, so old school farts (like me) just have to deal with it.....

Sorry but the Brew has gone flat. Welcome to the Off season ://

  11. Saturday October 13th 2018.

One of the greatest days of my life.

It is interesting to note that October 13th was also my wedding anniversary.

Sadly as most of you know I am divorced, yet very happy.

I found the date quite ironic because even though many of you hate me and think I'm a asshole I still get the importance of existence.

My top 5 days in my life as an adult male on planet earth:

    Even though divorced

    1. My marriage

    2. The birth of my first kid ZOE!

    3. The birth of my second kid SKYLAR!

    4. Grapes Under Pressure IV, one of the greatest days of my life, hanging out with friends and over one hundred amazing strangers. I could play drums in RUSH but I am opposite Neil. I know many strangers can be long awaited friends. I am ANTI NEIL...... Comic book shite? I love NEIL!

    5. On that note even though it didn't go so well, I met Neil in 2003 by his bus. Many on here know this story. Many of my friends from the Grapes Under Pressure Tour know it too. LOL!

    Life is short.

I hope all of you find your passion in life and fulfill your dreams and make them into realities.

    I can't even believe how amazing October 13th 2018.

Everyone I met was so incredible and amazing. The train staff, the bus drivers, the people who ran the Peller Estate. All first class.

The weather was cold but when the sun broke through it was perfect.

    A surreal day.

Drinking Wayne Gretzky whiskey with ginger beer on ice. Are you kidding me? Delicious.

    The food was first class.

Alex was telling jokes on the intercoms all day long

    Geddy was so cool.

We shot the shit about baseball twice!

He loved what my Oakland A's did this season despite failing to the fuckking Tankees. LOL!

We talked about Geddy's Blue Jays too.

You wouldn't believe the things he told me.

    That will remain private.

    you bastard!!!!

  13. I remember writing my review on Snakes And Arrows on this Forum when the record came out.

    I was fuckking blown away.

Listening to "S&A" now in 2018 and it still withstands the test of time.

The melodic part of "The Good News First" at 3 minutes 1 second is just beautiful to my fuckked up ears.

    Love it.

I wish this song was played live.

I also am still in love with "We Hold On." Love how Neil ends that one. Wish that was played live too.

"Snakes And Arrows" is sill a kick ass record.

I put on "Vapor Trails" Remix last night.

    Jesus......

I had to turn it off.

To me "Vapor Trails" is the "St. Anger" of Rush Records.

    "We Hold On"

    For what?

Hey man, you tell Geddy hi for me?

  14.

    DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMNNNNNNNNNNNN

How does he smell? What kind of shampoo does he use?

Both of them smell like prog myrrh.

Alex's wife Charlene is here too.

Thats awesome. I have so many questions for them. Is white really the color of their carpet? Does Alex leave the seat down without peeing on it? Wig or transplants?
