  1. Alex by far. I know he's an avid golfer as am I and would love to play a round of golf with him. I guarantee it would be a blast. I rarely drink anymore but would make an exception for him and have a couple 19th hole pops and just talk and joke.

Geddy seems cool but a bit to serious for me.

If you asked me this years ago I probably would have said Neil but I'll pass at this point. Talk about watching paint dry...

Golf with Alex was the first thing that came to mind for me. You, me, Mithrandir and Alex would be a fun foursome.

A guaranteed great time for sure. It only takes one round to get to know someone real well has been my experience...

  3. Heh. I went to a couple Snakes tour shows and couldn't wait for then to get past all the new songs. Like I said, Far Cry kicked ass but the others, yeeech. Talk about a string of bathroom or beer stand break songs... lol

I've sometimes wondered if bands ever notice fans leaving their seats walking away during certain songs or segments of their sets and if it bothers them

I took my then 16 year old musician son to a Snakes tour show. I had of course seen them 20 times before since 79' but it had been a while. It was his first live show seeing a band I had been raving about all of his life and he knew quite a bit of their music. The first 30 minutes or so I was just sitting there not very excited apparently and he asked me why am I not excited. They were playing the Snakes songs but things changed quickly thank God...

  4. I listened to about 10 seconds and sadly had to shut it down. Out of sheer boredom I have actually been checking things like this out lately. None from her however...

    Listen to this one Narps:

Ahhh this may have been the "Daniel Boone coonskin hat" hairdo days but his voice had matured to as perfect as it ever was. I was oh so close to jumping from the balcony. Officially talked down. Thanks...

I love that version too. From the good old days.

Yep. The last show I went to before I took my kids in more recent years was in 1987. A great mixture of old and "new" Rush in those years and Ged could still bring it...
  5. It was playing here in Myrtle Beach but I just couldn't bring myself to go. The last one I went to was the Clockwork Angel's one and the vocals made me slowly sink in my chair as the night progressed. I saw them in Atlanta on their(what I knew would be) last tour. Lousy vocals didn't bother me in the least because I just wanted to see them one last time...

  7. My league had an outing on Saturday which i was really excited for. Beautiful weather, nice course, etc..

So....out of 26 league members only 8 showed up plus one of the guys friends so we had 9 golfers. Whoopie! We had to go out in threesomes and in my threesome was the one golfer who is the league jerk who is also the best golfer in the league. He throws clubs, gets mad, etc.. not a joy to play with. I didn't ride in the cart with him as i was the solo guy in the cart. So that sucked too riding around all day by myself.

So my excitement level went way down. it was still fun to golf, but nowhere near the fun I thought it was going to be. Shot a 47-41 as I putted atrociously on the front 9. I did win a skin though, so i got a few bucks back.

The first 20 or so years of my golfing life I played a ton of golf with my brother in laws and some other friends. We played lots of local rounds, many trips to Myrtle Beach, Pinehurst and other places. Nobody wanted to play with my one brother in law and when we had to we prayed he played well so he wouldn't be such an ass. One good thing during most of those years was that we walked back then so at least we weren't trapped in a cart most of the time. When he played under his standards he was such a sad sack...

  8. I am now facing the loss of our sweet Mommy kitty Minnie. She is 15 and still getting around but the poor thing can't keep much weight on her, just skinny and eats 3 times a day but her little bones stick out all over. She doesn't seem to be in pain but I hate the realization that we will be losing her. She is a beautiful dilute calico British shorthair. We did some breeding for a short time and she had 3 wonderful litters. The father of the kittens was named Harry Potter so we of course named all the cats after characters from the books, Minnie was short for Prof. Minerva McGonagal. She was awarded a Distinguished Merit Award in 2007. That means that she was the mother of 5 kittens that became Grand Champions or Grand Premiers (neuters). It was fun and we took many of them to shows and most were bought by friends and went on to become Champions themselves. We did keep some too, especially the ones that we got attached to. We have Winky and Ron Weasley still here too along with our other rescues.

I just dread taking her to the vet but it is coming soon. I share your pain Lorraine, I have lost many furry friends over the years and it never gets easier. :rose:

Well, I lost my sweet Minnie yesterday. She wouldn't eat for a day and half so I couldn't take it anymore. Such a cutie, still feisty to the end, gave the vet techs hell. It hurts to let them go but I didn't want her to starve to death. Hoping she's on the Rainbow Bridge with our other kitties. :rose:

I have a 16 year old now and understand completely. It's heart wrenching. Bless you...

  9. Big Rush fan here for 43 years now but keeping it real for me at least. I can't imagine spending money and time for something like this. I volunteer working for the class A baseball team here locally the Myrtle Beach Pelicans a few days ago Lou Pinella was there for a signing event. The event and line was happening right out in front of our concession stand and I was thinking these people must be nuts. Throughout life I have been impressed by many people in all walks of life but I honestly have never been impressed enough to go through this kind of thing. In the late 80's I was lucky enough to meet and get a picture taken with the late great golfer Payne Stewart at the Kemper Open in the DC area. A couple years later he was there again and I got him to sign it. I guess that's the closest I've come to this kind of thing. Just being honest but to each their own....Cheers
  10. This is a joke plain and simple. The game I used to love I now find to be a bore fest. I volunteer and work concessions at our local class A team the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. The games routinely even without much scoring are 3 hours plus. To much putzing around between pitches, delays after completed half innings etc.

    To your point... https://www.sportsrec.com/7301658/the-average-length-of-major-league-baseball-games

During the 1970s, the average time of a Major League Baseball game was approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes. The [current] increase is related to several factors, including increased time between innings for TV and radio commercials. However, players also take longer between at bats and between pitches. Major league officials are concerned particularly about games that last more than three hours...

During the 2000 season, the average length of a Major League Baseball game was 2 hours and 58 minutes, according to MLB.com. Major league officials thought this was too long and told the umpires to speed things up. To speed the pace of the game, the league mandated such changes as not granting time when batters wanted to step out of the batter's box without a valid reason and demanding that pitchers throw the ball in more rapid succession.

Major League Baseball got the results it wanted in ensuing years. The average time of a Major League Baseball game was 2 hours and 54 minutes 2001; 2 hours and 52 minutes in in 2002 and 2 hours and 46 minutes in 2003. The figures remained similar through the 2006 season. However, in 2007, the average length of the game increased to 2 hours and 51 minutes...[and it's been increasing ever since]

According to the league, through Friday of last week, the average length for 9-innings was 3:00:58, that's down from the final average of 3:05:11 for games last season, but still about six minutes shy of the mark set by the league to keep the pitch clock from being implemented.

20 or 30 minutes when you think about seems insignificant but it really is significant. It seems an eternity at times. When working games we occasionally check the status of the game and almost like clockwork it's 1 hour per 3 innings. I'm convinced the dicking around between pitches is mostly the culprit. I remember like it was yesterday when Mike Hargrove came into the league and the old school announcers being flabbergasted about him stepping out after every pitch and adjusting everything. I really don't recall anyone doing it quite to that level before him. You get 18 guys doing the same and there you have it...

  12. When I stopped 25 years ago, I was in the 280 range most games. It took me a long time to get there.

    Bowling is a sport.

280 most games? Uh, I think not.

lol. I thought the same. Pretty sure at least we know better. I have bowled in leagues with pros and they can average 250 plus which is staggering to contemplate. I have seen 800 plus series bowled a number of times but they still don't happen every day. I would venture to guess there are much more 300 games bowled than 800 series. 280 a game? I think not...
  13. I have always considered bowling and golf in the same realm. Both demand some although limited physical prowess but mostly require dedication, discipline, attention to detail, concentration and special(to excel) hand eye coordination. I grew up bowling duckpin(look it up) and started very young and continued till my late 20's. I was very good but not great. I took up ten pin at that point and although they both require 10 pins and one ball they are very different. It took me a while to adapt to ten pins. I eventually averaged consistently in the 205-210 range year to year bowling one night a week with no practice. Bowling 3 games a week you will only get but so good. Bowled 3 perfect games but never bowled and 800 series which for anyone who bowls knows that is a major benchmark. 782 was my highest. My right wrist and hand problems stopped my bowling in its tracks in 2009. After 3 wrist fusion surgeries in 2016 I decided to try bowling left handed. It took me two and half years at one night a week to average 198 last year. I have decided to give it up completely now and stick to golf. I would rather be good at golf again than bowling. The challenge to be good at anything is great and I love golf much more.

Is either one a "sport"? I have no idea but they both require a lot to be really good and a special talent to be great...

  14. Greller has earned about $5 million as Spieths caddy.

Yeah, Greller will be just fine. I was just sharing highlights, since I missed the entire tournament.

And Greller sort of screwed up by not noticing the rake that Spieth hit on his bunker shot.

    https://www.golfchannel.com/news/jordan-spieth-hitting-rake-us-open-thats-me

I hadn't heard that part of the story. The cherry on top of a weird day. lol

There was nothing to it. Spieth obviously either one thinned is slightly or two thought the club he chose would clear the lip. Either way the ball didn't clear the lip clean and hit the rake buried in the grass. Certainly not Grellers fault...
  15. And then there's the Spieth drama, with Jordan getting after his caddy.

    https://www.sbnation.com/golf/2019/6/15/18679222/2019-us-open-jordan-spieth-yells-at-caddie-michael-greller

...microphones caught Spieth bristling after hitting his ball in the ocean and then over the green. “Two perfect shots, Michael [spieth's caddy],” he said. “You got me in the water on one and over the green on the other.”

    The video:

    The fallout...

“You’re a good caddie, Michael!” one fan shouted as Greller descended off the 6th tee for his walk up that coastal par-5.

The pair’s second loop through the 8th hole this week went slightly better than the miscommunications and misplays of the first round. Spieth hit it deep again, missing the minuscule green, but was able to get up-and-down to save a par. After he poured in the 11-foot putt for the save, someone screamed “That a way, Michael!” as if the caddie had rolled the putt himself. These shouts and calls for “Michael” cascaded throughout the day, which is exactly what both Spieth and Greller probably do not want.

At the 15th hole, Spieth’s 6th of the day after going off the back nine, he asked Greller, “This won’t go over no matter what, right?”

Greller promptly responded, “No.” Then Spieth struck the ball and blurted out a line at Greller we’ve heard before while the ball is in the air. “Hope you’re right.” Hearing that from your boss at a moment of truth would creates some real tension and would stress the hell out of anyone in any field.

The ball bounced once and did, in fact, go over the green.

Never could stand him and the incidents at the US Open certainly didn't help. A whiner plain and simple....
  16. Joe still sucks and Faxon isn't much better. The announcers, production and annoying fans are ruining an otherwise beautiful course and championship...

Not having to endure their commentary is the only upside of my being trapped at a swim meet on US Open weekend. :P

    How's the golf been?

The golf was fine. Woodland really played great and deserved to win. While I'm complaining the crowd might have been more annoying than the broadcast if that's possible. Over the top assholes in the crowd everywhere apparently and microphones picking up every stupid comment...
