Man...seeing that pic really makes it burn that I passed on attending.

    :banghead:

Why man why did you pass?

8+ hour drive, and I had seen them twice

No excuse! I drove from north Georgia to Toronto, then on to Montreal to see them! Besides, seeing them at every stop still wouldn't have been enough!

That's the spirit, man! Would love to hear more stories from that trip...

R40 was an unbelievable experience for me. I flew in 9,297(google)km from Frankfurt to LA. I had no ticket when I first booked this flight, and somehow strangely a "TRF Angel" appeared. Right out of that nowhere I ended up somewhere, in Inglewood... Last show... 3rd row... Geddy's side!! I still can smell The Forum!!! :smoke:

The greatest and most important Rock'n'Roll trip in my life! :rush:

    Thanks for the ticket, Gina!!!

Thanks for the beers, brought all the way from Germany dude. They were tasty

  2. You go, Grey! Those who weren't there can write about it. Those who were there can sit back and smile!!

Although I have to admit, my confusion rests not so much with how I got to the LA concert, but rather, with how I got back to my hotel room from the desolate parking lot of Steve Harvey's Chicken Shack!! Thank you Tombstone Mountain, wherever you might be!!

It wasn't that desolate. Jigga was there sellinh t-shirts, telling us how many people he's shot

    That's crazy 14.

I didn't know that we had this in common.

My LA Forum show was the 60th for me as well.

    RUSH ON!

Wow! When was your first show? By the way here is the pic again. Looks like the link is broken

  4. I have dealt with people like that, and I have also been that person. I’ve been clean and sober for 22 years at this point, so I have a considerable amount of experience with all kinds of people in various different stages of sober/drunk/dry/high/clean.

In the text of Alcoholics Anonymous literature, they summarize the behavior/situation you’re referring to as being simply ‘restless, irritable and discontent’. Essentially, the drinking is merely a symptom of the larger issue of self-centered fear and resentment.

I am not trying to be preachy, here- I take all of this very seriously, for anyone who is suffering (which is the person who has quit drinking as well as the other people in his or her life, who are affected by it)...and I think the person you’re referring to has just removed alcohol from his life, and hasn’t filled that void with anything else- and therefore isn’t really equipped to deal with any other aspects of life. Where he used to use alcohol as a coping mechanism or whatever the case may be, that’s not there anymore.

I don’t want to keep going on and on here, but please feel free to send me a PM if you want to discuss it further.

    Preach it Brother!

Excellent stuff. Truth is, there are great coping mechanisms available all around: Plant a garden. Get a goldfish. Volunteer at a homeless shelter. Hike. Read a book. Bake cookies. Spend time at a museum...the list could go on forever.

Kudos to you Blue J! You know my story, and I've been edified sharing my struggles with you as the former partner of an alcoholic. Proud of you dude!

  5. For me, a song mentioned in the context of "worst" can't have anything redeemable about it. For instance, "Virtuality" has super clunky lyrics and the bridges and choruses are musically awful, but the main riff is killer. Songs like that don't make my worst list. It needs to be thoroughly blech in a "How did the guys in Rush think this was a Rush song!" kind of way.

    Anagram

    Second Nature

    Madrigal

    Tai Shan

    Red Tide

    You Bet Your Life

    Speed Of Love

    Second Nature

you must really dispise Second Nature if you have it listed twice. ;)

    I hate that f***ing song. It's a bad Celine Dion song. :)

We're gonna have to fight over Madrigal bro

  7. I finally got the gumption to start listening to Rush again....I think the worst offense that I did, was how much I put Dirk and Lerxst up on a pedestal and completely took Pratt's genius for granted....I only looked at the fact that he disliked touring, how he hated how fans gushed over him and I judged him so harshly on those things alone....I had the inaccurate notion that Geddy and Alex were the "fun guys" in the band and that Neil was just the always serious, no-nonsense stick in the mud.....

But looking back at the interviews with Neil, looking back at how the trio interacted with each other, having dinner at that restaurant....Just goes to show you just how wrong I was about Neil. He was funny, smart, strong, and kind...He was a real salt-of-the-earth fellow that was gifted with an unbelievable talent for rhythm and he just wanted to be treated like a regular human being by the people who admired him. And it's such a crying shame that I'm only realizing this now that he no longer walks the Earth :(

A lesson I've learned, never judge a book by it's cover.

Neil was an introvert. That kind of personality is hard to understand for a lot of people especially in today's world when everyone puts everything out there on the internet trying to get themselves known in whatever way possible. But introverts don't crave that kind of attention. They just want to go about their business without much fuss or attention. It's not something you can just snap out of one day. You can have a family, close friends and a successful career with it but it's not something that ever leaves you just like any other lifelong personality trait somebody has. This is one of the things that made Neil such a great drummer and lyricist. Introverted people spend more quiet time alone and think deep on many topics. It turns out the one thing that many fans disliked about him was the very thing that helped him to be so gifted at his craft.

I've always said that Rush would have been finished by 1980 like a lot of other bands from the 70s if Neil didn't join them. The first album is a good 70s rock album and nothing more. There isn't anything I hear on it that leads me to believe that they would have gotten to the heights that they did if Rutsey stays in the band. The addition of Neil with his unique playing style and lyrical content caused Geddy and Alex to up their games immensely. Neil was too humble to admit it but he is exactly what was needed for the band to ascend to the greatness it did.

I'm glad you now realize the true genius of Neil. It's just too bad it took you so long to figure it out.

  8. Are they stopping the videos every 12 seconds to hear themselves talk or are they back to actually listening to the songs for a minute before they say anything?

    They're ok on this one.

Ok, sometimes they listen and other times they talk too much before even letting the song settle into its groove. They range between very good and very annoying for me.

They do some interruptions on this but not enough so it becomes annoying.

Yeah, looks like they're paying attention to the comment section

Dang, I was hoping for a "Dazzler" flick. Maybe Lena Dunham as the star

  10. I am so glad I documented this. Had no idea what to expect when I flew in, but was given such a gift. In many ways the sadness I feel with Neil's passing is assauged by watching this

Dude, this is so awesome - thank you so much for sharing

Glad you enjoyed that. I know I certainly enjoyed the interactions and meeting interesting folks from TRF. Like I said, it was a gift of eternal magnitude to go. Funny thing, when I met one TRF'r, she was expecting someone who looked like Yosemite Sam.

Yosemite Sam. My posts inspire the image of the Yosemite Sam. WOW!

  11. I won’t hatefully disagree; it’s a strong album, great songwriting, great execution.

But Hold Your Fire is the Hemispheres of the synth era. ;)

That's the only other one I could agree with. If it weren't for Tai Shan and High Water, HYF might have PoW beat.

Lol, those are two of my favorites from HYF.

    Said nobody ever lol.

Tai Shan is a real momentum killer. It's not as bad as a lot of fans make it out to be but those eight songs before just flow so well and take you on this great ride. Then Tai Shan comes on and just kills it. Just like Speed Of Love. Counterparts is going along tremendously until that song halts things for a few minutes. I do think because of the dislike many have for Tai Shan that High Water gets an unfair amount of hate because it has to try and save the album and end it on a good note. I feel the song does that. I'm not sure how Rush fans could listen to what Neil is doing on High Water and not like it in some way? He's really getting down with drum groove on it.

I agree on every point. High Water is a good track.

Same here. With the exception of Available Light, I like High Water more than any closer from every album that followed. And yes that includes The Garden which I like just fine.

    I wouldn't go that far! :-)

I liked it the first time I heard it. And it’s grown on me even more over the years. BUT to be honest, I think every album closer from Bones and onwards (with the exception of The Garden) is mediocre or worse. YBYL is one of their worst tunes ever imho

    So interesting. I LOVE YBYL.

I found a lot of TRFers like it...and a lot dislike it.

    You are mostly correct

    Ming!

Long time no see. Hope the nut of Goat has been treating you well :blaze:

Still flamin' I see. You remember Ming...that's funny!
