  1. Gamecocks finally came alive late in the game to end up winning 13-10 against Vandy.

No, senior Carolina kicker Elliot Fry nails a game winning 55 yard kick to upset 5 point favorite Vanderbilt, on the road, in season opening and conference play.

I will give you an A for effort in trying to put the best possible spin on this.

But sorry, having to come back from 0-10 at halftime against Vanderbilt to eke out a 13-10 win (with help from a Vandy missed field goal late in the game) is nothing to get excited about, no matter where the game was played.

The fact that Vanderbilt was favored to win this game in itself speaks volumes. No decent team should ever be an expected underdog against Vandy.

Vandy is a good team and Derek Mason is a good coach.

Robert, we're gonna be OK, man.

1/2 the teams will be 0-1 after this weekend. We're not in that half.

  2. Normally I would have started this thread myself before you did.

But after the absolutely pathetic season for my SC Gamecocks last year, I am not finding it easy to muster much enthusiasm about CFB going into this year. Plus, the evil Tiggers are ranked 2nd to start the season. Phooey.

We'll have a great defense before long. Muschamp has had great defenses everywhere he has been. But, will we have an offense? Muschamp says the offense is Kurt Roper's deal, and he is staying out of the way, and only wants to know what the overall strategy is, for the game, so that he can plan his defense.

We got great coaches who have instilled a blue collar work ethic I to the program. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised in the long run.

What the hell happened to the Gamecocks colors???

    Some form of magenta??

No, we went back to the original garnet, like in the 80s and 90s. UnderArmour was producing the wrong color during the Spurrier era.

We've also brought back the garnet helmets, and black jerseys from the 90s.

  3. There are some videos, produced by "The State" newspaper, I believe, called "Gamecocks Confidential: Forever To Thee", which, you can watch on YouTube, of you get a chance today.

There are 4 of them, so far, and they're a documentary type series which highlight the new coaches, show off the new facilities, spotlight certain players, and follow the timeline from the arrival of Coach Boom! until now.

They're in HD, very well produced, and chock full of information.

  5. ESPN and Bayless deserve each other.

Unfortunately, the sports fan deserves better. A step in the right direction though, unless his algae covered body surfaces somewhere else.

Yeah, I wish ESPN would go back to sports, like they used to. I remember when they had wood chopping contests, roller derby, rugby, bass fishing, everything. Then they had to get into opinion. I just want to watch the game!

  6. What a sad day in sports. We've lost one of the great coaches, today. I'm definitely shocked by the headline this morning. f***ing Alzheimer's is as bad or worse than cancer. It jumped on her and obviously brought her down fast.

I wish the family peace and comfort in the upcoming days.

  7. Gooooool....Arrrrrrrrrgentina!!!!!

Commentary from the US commentator: "The beginning of a half is the worst time to give up a goal." :eh:

(This is the right place for this, right?)

The same thing in American football, IMHO. You can sometimes win a game after halftime, if you come out of the locker room on fire.

That goal by Messi, I just saw the highlight, was some Nintendo shit, right there. The goalie has 0 chance of stopping that.

  8. Damn Germany plays the game so smoothly and efficiently. No pressure, like a machine.

The fact that you know kraftwerk just makes you so much cooler in my book? I had no idea you liked industrial. KMFDM and Rammstein are also good German bands.
  9. Saw the England-Russia replay last night. Plumb sickening. England completely outplays Russia, scoring around the 72 minute mark with a spectacular free kick, and let's Russia tie the game in stoppage time. 1 point instead of 3. Ugh.

  10. His greatest accomplishment by far was refusing to be drafted and sent to Vietnam. It takes a real man to do that.

    Just my opinion..... :) :)

He had the money to flee but was man enough to stay

ALL done While holding the heavyweight title which he to give up (done so in his prime fighting years) and also faced the ridicule he faced for changing his name and religion. I might have done the same.....btw he never was sent to Vietnam.

I do have a question about Ali.....Did Ali change his religion to avoid the draft? I appear to have an ongoing discussion about whether or not that question was a fact.

I don't think he did it for that reason. A black person at that time that was fed up with the status quo (and with his boxing he had seen a lot of things the average person didn't) had two choices: the kindler, gentler approach of MLK or the more aggressive approach of the Nation of Islam. As a fighter it kind of makes sense he chose the more aggressive approach.

The approach of MLK hadn't been working. Besides, black people didn't like it that their last names were white people's names given to their ancestors when they were slaves. I don't blame any of the black people that changed their names or went with the "x" plus a number.

Yeah, I agree. For a high profile person to stand his ground and say, "I am a man, and this is my life, and it doesn't belong to the state," took real guts, because he had a lot a stake and it did cost him.

I hate it when people call him a "draft dodger" because he didn't dodge a damn thing. He straight up told them to go f**k themselves.

  12. So yeah, my lawn mower is kind of old and instead of fixing it, I'm thinking about a new mower. I see these 40 volt battery powered mowers on Amazon and I'm seriously considering getting one. I have a nail gun, impact wrench, drill, and ratchet that run on battery power and they work great, but.....

....do batteries have enough torque to cut the tall weeds down? How long can the mower run between charges? Any pros or conspiracy that you can think of or a particular brand that you endorse?

I'm happy to read and thankful for all responses.
