  1. Arkansas beats Florida and Kentucky is going toe to toe with Georgia. Kentucky would be leading the SEC EAST if they win. WOW!

    LOL, Georgia wins, helping SC.

In a far fetched scenario, with little chance of actually happening, if South Carolina upsets Florida, on the road, and Auburn beats Georgia, and Missouri beats Tennessee, I believe South Carolina could win the SEC east. Insane, but mathematically possible.

  2. Gamecocks won their 3rd game in a row, to go to 5-4 on the season after the initial 2-4 start. Gamecocks have not been defeated since the freshman quarterback Bentley was sent in to take over.

I have been quite impressed with him. He was sent in to try something new with a disaster of a team, and the results have been very good.

We won the turnover battle, 3-0, again, two weeks in a row. Defense gave up a lot of yards between the 20s, but stoned them time and again in the red zone.

I can't believe it, but, we are probably going to make a bowl this year. Stellar coaching by this new staff to change these kids into a better team.

I'm very proud of the new coaching staff and the work ethic and discipline of the players. They seem to be collecting dividends, finally.

  3. Wisconsin 23

    Nebraska 17 (OT)

THRILLING game, although it was a bit soiled by the Badgers' QB's throwing some really dumb INT's. The Wisconsin defense keeps making big play after big play, and the 4th down stop in overtime was perhaps their best play this year!

When their senior RB's Clement and Ogunbowale leave after this year, they won't be lacking! Bradrick Shaw looks like a stud in the making!!

    :haz: :haz: :haz:

Knocking Nebraska from the ranks of the undefeated, too!

Baylor and West Virginia both lost their first games of the season yesterday, too.

Yep, it's not easy to win on the road. The ol Huskers found out that you just don't waltz into Camp Randall Stadium and expect the Badgers to lay down.
  4. Carolina stuns Tennessee in a huge upset at a raucous Williams Brice stadium.Hell yeah. The magic is back.

Well, I don't about any magic being back, lol, but yes it was a huge win for the Cocks.

It's the magic of being in the stadium, and the atmosphere that the crowd and bands and players create, and seeing the team achieve a hard earned victory. The coach acknowledged, first thing in the press conference, that the crowd made a difference.

Maybe that's lip service, but he seemed genuine.

Jake Bentley is for real. And, the defense is getting a lot better. And, we have a few players back from injury that we didn't have early in the year.

It is a possibility that we could go to a bowl, this year, no small achievement for a team full of freshman in Muschamp's first season.

  5. South Carolina FINALLY gets a night game vs a ranked opponent. I sure wish the offense could duplicate last weeks points and our defense play outstanding for 4 quarters. It's been a long time since we've had a win vs a ranked foe.

Last 4 vs Tennessee have been decided by a total of 11 points.

  6. All unbeaten teams play on the road, this weekend, with, of course, the monumental showdown in the Bayou, between the undefeated Crimson Tide of Alabama and the Bengal Tigers of Louisiana State.

I believe there will be some upsets. Slot of the games are rivals such as Clemson @ Florida State and Michigan @ Michigan State, and others are conference games, such as WVU @ Oklahoma State, Nebraska @ Wisconsin, and Boise State @ Wyoming.

Should be a good weekend of college football.

  7. What a monumental upset of Ohio State by Penn State. Finally, something for Lions fans to be happy about post-Paterno scandal.

Anyone notice LSU hasn't lost since Miles has been fired?

West Virginia seems to be the real deal. They should be top 10, this week.

Can Nebraska get into the B1G championship game against Michigan? That would be awesome?

  8. Yesterday, I didn't watch a single college football game. My understanding is that the NC State kicker missed three field goals, the last of which would have won the game and upset 3rd ranked Clemson. What a shame he missed.

I watched, instead, parachutists jumping 876 feet off the New River gorge bridge in West Virginia. INSANE!

  9. The last couple of seasons British Telecom (http://home.bt.com/) started broadcasting several over the weekend with the odd game mid-week live via ESPN and others, so, yeah.. it's quite entertaing. The NFL is aired live on the Sky Sports Channel. This lot screen the pick of the weekends games with three back-to-back from 6pm sunday also monday and thursday nights games. B.T charges extra to watch Sky Sports so i don't bother.

Yeah, if you can ever attend a college football game in real life, treat yourself to that opportunity. It's an all day affair and there is more than just the game:

First of all, drunk, half naked, college girls walking around everywhere. Then, the drinking. Also, the tailgating, food everywhere. Then, the pageantry of the marching bands and various traditions that each school displays, from specific cheers, unique hand gestures, and some teams change their uniforms every week.

It's pure tribalism. And, yes, the games are awesome.

  10. I know there aren't many Buckeyes fans here...but I had a lot of fun taking my sons to the game yesterday.

    And we won rather handily.

A powerhouse program. Must be a killer atmosphere for a game! I went to a lot of Washington Husky games in their heyday. A great venue. It gave Stanford fits on Friday.

ETA: I see the Huskies jumped to #5.

I knew when Petersen went there that Washington would be stellar. I used to watch Boise State play on Friday nights, after high school games.Very creative and aggressive offenses with Petersen.

In my travels, I've made a point to try and pass by as many college football stadia as possible. The horseshoe is easily the most monumental structure I've ever seen in America. I'd love to see a game there one day.

  12. Looks like Carolina is in for another long season, losing to Kentucky for the 3rd straight year. We have a young team, which did it's best on defense, but the offense couldn't muster any yards. 2 TDs were called back for penalties, one obvious, one was a judgement call.

The bad news is that A&M comes into town next week.

    Ummm, Carolina beat Pitt!

Dude, whatever. If you want to talk about college football, objectively, I'd love a great conversation. But, I don't engage in trash talk or bet on amateurs. I enjoy college football too much.

Perhaps South Carolina fans should not do so much trash talking to North Carolina fans this season . . . .

I'm a college football fan. I enjoy watching all the teams. And, so did my wife. We watched ALL the games.

  13. Looks like Carolina is in for another long season

I thought that was painfully obvious by halftime of the opening game against Vanderbilt, which you falsely stated was a good team in your effort to try to put the best possible spin on that game.

Anyway, I have already written off the Gamecocks this year. So any wins they might have from now till the end of the season can come as a pleasant surprise, to take some measure of enjoyment in.

So, what do I have to "live for" in the rest of this CFB season -- well, lots of things. Starting with this coming weekend with Clemson versus Louisville. I am going to be a hard core Louisville fan for that game, and really hope that they stomp the shit out of Clemson the same way they did to Florida State.

Our coach said they were a good team. It was the first game of the year. Please tell me how the hell I'm "spinning" the result of the game when I simply relay what our coach said, with no other games to use as relevant comparisons?

Look at the roster, DPR: Freshmen, tee-shirt freshmen, and sophomores, and a new coaching staff. Expectations certainly couldn't have been too high for an objective fan.

For me, it's been a chance to invest: invest in a new beginning and watch the kids grow in strength and skill. You have to go to the games and just enjoy the food, the tailgating, the "scenery" of half naked women, and simply enjoy the game. As a Gamecocks fan, with our history, you're asking for heart trouble or jail time for property damage if you take it too seriously.

  14. Les Miles fired today.

Miles' record at LSU: 114-34 (.770) and a National Championship.

Firing him is just stupid, an example of a fan base whose perspective has gotten completely out of touch with reality.

Similar to Georgia firing Richt last year.

I agree. With the program that he maintained there, he should have at least been allowed to coach this whole season before they make a decision like that.

If they were looking at the rest of this season's schedule and made the decision based on that...do they really think an interim coach is going to do better for them this year?

    I guess they must.

It's an unintended consequence of the playoff. These teams wanna scrap the season of they can't win the national championship.

LSU still has to play Alabama and Alabama has to play Tennessee, so there are 2 conceivable losses for Alabama, plus LSU would have the head to head tiebreaker, if they won, which means they still have a chance to win the conference championship. But, no one cares about that anymore.

  15. Few events beat a World Of Outlaws sprint car race on a bullring dirt track. The sound, the smell, the pure competition. If you want good time on the cheap, go to your local dirt track. It's an absolute blast.

But I also enjoy an MLB game on a warm sunny summer day with a cold beer. No pressure, no tension. It's like a picnic where you get to keep score.

I was also at one of the coldest NFL games in history, and at -3 farenheit, playing for your season; it doesn't even phase you, the energy was amazing.

    -3? Wow.

For me there is nothing like an SEC college football game, but a)I'm biased, and b)I've never been to any pro sporting events.

I've always wanted to see NHL, in person, particularly the Blackhawks, or Penguins, and I've always wanted to see The Masters.

Also, I've always wanted to see the US Open, late at night, in a quarterfinal or semifinal match.
