  1. When Signals came out I couldn't believe the production - there was nothing wrong with most of the songs in terms of the song-writing, especially the masterpiece which is Subdivisions - but the production...?

I know musically the times they were a'changing but it was hard to see how Signals was released sounding like it did. Maybe it's only saving grace in terms of production was that it didn't sound as bad as ESL, but that's still not good. Like I said, there was nowt wrong with the songs, but I'm not surprised Broon & the boys parted company after Signals.

The only problem now is, after hammering my hearing with 31 years of gigs & 30 years of electric guitar playing, EVERYTHING sounds like Signals !!!

  2. The Pass or Available Light - can never decide between the two (though currently I'd say Available Light). For me this is an album where the track order is all wrong - nothing wrong with most of the tracks but I just feel it would have worked better in a different order, & I just wish it had started with Available Light - such a brilliantly un-Rush sort of song - I'd love to have heard it done live as well.
  3. For texts..."I am Geddy Lee, & I will sing whatever lyrics I want !!!".

For ringtone...part of Neil's S&A drum solo (African talking drums bit)

Both taken from an S&A boot (can't remember which one!).

  4. Hmmm... I know what you mean about Max Webster but yeah, I'm fairly sure Max Webster didn't support the ESL tour over here (the first date of which was Bingley on October 29th 1981), only the main Moving Pictures tour, which was before ESL.

It seemed weird at the time that what we were seeing was (on paper) the MP tour, but somehow it was also being billed as the MP tour. I bought my MP tour shirt on that tour along with my "family heirloom" white & blue "European Tour 1981" (with no mention of MP) baseball jersey, which bizarrely still fits & which I wear for every gig

Also, I'm sure it was only Rush on stage at the time. Thanks for the suggestion anyway.

  5. In October 1981 I definitely remember Rush playing Battlescar at Bingley Hall & Deeside Leisure Centre, however, it doesn't appear on any recordings I have heard from around that time & have not seen it in track listings for that tour, & although parts of the 1980's are quite hazy, I'm absolutely sure I remember them playing it.

I even remember what coat I was wearing at Bingley - one of those blue Parkas with the plastic fur round the hood !

Have I been kidding myself for 30 years, or does anyone else remember those gigs (October 29th 1981 at Bingley & October 31st at Deeside) ?
