Here is an article from my local paper (online) that tells about a guide dog who helps an 8 year old boy with autism (along the lines of a seeing eye dog):

    http://auburnpub.com/news/local/article_2d...1cc4c03286.html

I've never heard of this before but it's a great idea if it works for sure.

    kewl! new_thumbsupsmileyanim.gif

its hard for me to put that together. we have a black lab, but Tim has never really paid much attention to him,,,other than complain that Turbo steals the ball and won't give it back. laugh.gif

i wonder if the advantage comes from other people recognizing a special needs student and offering a lil extra grace? cheer.gif

other than that, i don't see the distinct advantage of the dog. confused13.gif

what is the dog helping with, exactly? unsure.gif

I looked into this a little further...this is from the ASDA's website (Autism Service Dogs of America):

    QUOTE
Our service dogs provide a physical and emotional anchor for children with autism. With their child tethered to a service dog, families feel they are newly freed to engage in activities as simple as shopping at the mall. On the streets, parents are relieved of the worry their child might run away. In many cases, the service dog accompanies the child to school, where its calming presence can minimize and often eliminate emotional outbursts, enabling the child to more fully participate. Transitioning among school day activities is eased and the service dog provides a focus through which the child can interact with other children. This helps increase the opportunity for the child to develop social and language skills.

Makes a little more sense as to why they are available.

okay so we only got about 5.

We need more though there's 2 leagues?

And i'm dealing with that ATM

I have 7 at the moment. I'd like to keep mine and I'm sure you want to run yours too. I would say that all is welcome to either one or both. Let them have fun. Maybe we can post a thread on which league has the highest leader or something....

    just signed up..... cool.gif

    So we've got 8 now, right? trink39.gif 1022.gif

Edit: Mine is the Clockwork Angels, btw.

I took this picture last summer when my son was - I don't know - 20months old, maybe?

I thought it was the PERFECT shot to get signed by the band, so I made up the little poster, and sent it to Columbus... Just arrived back the other day and it's already matted, framed and hanging in the boy's play-room!

    That's awesome!! That's what we're hoping they'll do for our son ♥♥

This is a story that is too good to be true. On Wednesday my brother-in-law, who works as a manager at Buffalo area grocery store, finds a laptop in the cafe. A guy calls the store and tells him he needs the laptop back but he is in Syracuse because he's the merchandising manager for Rush. My bro-in-law tells him we going to show in Syracuse and we can drop it off for him. The guy is thankful as all hell and says "When you get here we'll make sure you're taken care of."
We had no clue what this was going to entail. We were thinking anywhere from a "Thanks for returning the laptop" to meeting the Holy Triumvirate themselves. It was in between the two and it was an experience we will never forget.
We start out by returning the laptop to the guy who lost it and then he takes us back to the merchandise semi trailer. We are walking through boxes and boxes of swag and he hands us a bunch of t-shirts, baseball hats, and totes. We were ecstatic at this point until he said, "Do you want a backstage tour?" at which point we pissed our pants! This was the closest chance we will ever have of meeting the band so we had to ask if we could. Unfortunately he said it was little too chaotic at the time we were there so it wasn't possible.
We get up on stage and it was a sight to see. It was amazing to see all the behind the stage workings going on. We were then allowed to walk around on stage and take as many pictures as you want (we just couldn't touch the equipment). We were like kids in a candy store and security was getting a little antsy. We were on stage for around 20 minutes just taking it all in...the fine details on Neils drum kit were amazing! The whole experience went by so fast I dont remember everything I saw.
This was my 20th time to see the band and hands down this is the best time I have ever had. Enjoy the pics!.....
Thanks to my Brother in law and to the Merchandising guys who made it all possible!!!

Wow. Just too fargin kewl, dude!! 1022.gif new_thumbsupsmileyanim.gif

You'll have to tell me if it works. I've lost all hope of getting a package back since others have received their items back from shows they sent items to after mine.

So, I'm going to re-order a tour book and send another package off.

I'll let you know, hon...I sent a signature confirmation with it too - only cost me an extra $2.53 to do it. This worked the last time, when I sent something to the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, NH (I was attending that show, too).

This time I wanted to get the book signed for Niall so he'll have something special for when he grows up - I asked the guys if they would personalize it especially for him, cause he's such a big 2.gif fan already heart.gif wub.gif

Thanks. Obviously, something happened to my package so I'll send another one off.

This is getting kind of expensive... and ridiculous. If the Wichita venue received my package after the guys got there, shouldn't they have returned it to me? angry.gif

I always mail items with a confirmation ticket but I lost this last one so I'm unable to track it. I'm assuming it didn't get there in time because the guys seem pretty willing to sign most anything.

Yah that'd be pretty shiddy of wichita. i'd be pretty pissed!! angry.gif angry.gif

  11. Just sent out our package with a TM Tourbook, and a letter and a photo of the three of us for each of them today (wanted it to be a touch more personal since they were doing something nice for us smile.gif ) for the Boston show on 9/14. Here's the photo:

This thread has turned into the Warren Commission II.

    Here's my take:

Some person who may or may not have been at Red Rocks signed up on TRF and posted this cockameme bullshit story for a few shits and giggles but mainly to play the members all for a bunch a saps.

    But I could be wrong.

Geddy has mentioned that Rush In Rio tended to be more about the fans, whereas the Snakes and Arrows DVD was more about the band. And he appeared to prefer the Snakes and Arrows DVD. So, I don't think there will be another Rio-like DVD.

I'd love to see the next DVD come from the USA somewhere....Cleveland, perhaps. Cleveland was one of the band's earliest supporting cities, so it would be quite appropriate..!!

Cleveland was the city where Rush got their first US Radio play... smile.gif

Thanks! I once read that Neil had a roadie take a camera away from a fan who kept flahing away. that is what i am trying to avoid.

    Thanks again!

    2.gif

A flash will only illuminate the heads of the people in front of you, and REALLY annoy the band - and give you away to security as a picture taker wink.gif your best bet is (if your camera has manual settings) to shoot at:

    ISO 200 (max ISO 400)

Aperture of around f2.8 - f4.0 - the lowest possible number the better, as this lets in more light and allows for a faster Shutter Speed.

Shutter Speed: the higher the number the darker the photo, but the lower the number the more chance of blur you will get.

I recommend starting around 1/70 from that row, and adjust up or down accordingly. If the picture comes out really bright at 1/70, then you can probably bring it down to 1/100 or even 1/150 - if that's the case, I'm very excited for my pictures in Boston LOL.

If 1/70 is still somewhat dark, you'll need to up it to 1/50 or even higher, but I don't recommend going any higher than 1/30, unless you have ROCK steady hands, or you'll get a lot of motion blur in your shots and they'll come out looking crappy.

  15. QUOTE (nobodys hero @ Aug 17 2010, 12:41 PM)

The worst a woman who won a contest for the tickets, sound check, etc.  She arrived late, missed the sound check and generally knew who they were but was not a fan.

That just pisses me right the f**k off (and you know me, I don't generally swear on the board - so this must piss me off enough to say that). Seriously - let the people who are fans of the band get to meet them, go to the sound check, etc. Seriously, wtf.gif
