  1. I have no problem with Countdown at all, its certainly not the worst song on Signals.

I still have my shaped picture disc of Countdown/New world man that has the shuttle on one side and the fire hydrant on the other.

The launch of the Space Shuttle was a big deal back then for me and my friends (I was 13) so we thought it was pretty cool for Rush to be into it also

  2. I've countless shirts of bands and a few month ago I bought my 50th (!!!) Rush shirt. Addiction? Absolutely.

Hell, I even have a red blazer, like the one that Alex has worn in the early 80's.

    The shoes?... :)

No, too expensive for me, but I have the Rush shoelaces.

    Excellent :)

I don't see a problem with any of this tbh, I even keep the tour tshirts from the early 80s that are far too small for me!

Come to think of it, I need a new PW tshirt.....

  3. Lots of Rush vinyl here

    https://thesoundofvi...ght/3MXU0000000

Might have to "refresh" some of mine, bit expensive though

Extended ending on By-Tor And The Snow Dog? What's up with that?

Hmmm.. didnt spot that before, I wonder if its the Archives version mentioned here

    http://rush.wikia.co...nd_the_Snow_Dog

Could be. I'm going to pull out Fly By Night and the Archives Fly By Night and compare the two.

    Did they sound any different?

  4. My Brother got me into Rush, so 2112, A Farewell to Kings and Hemispheres were always being played in the house but the first one I went and bought myself was Permanent Waves when it came out.

I remember making my Gran and Grandad go and get me Archives!!

It must of been around my Birthday, what's funnier is that my Gran was always in Debenhams so it probably came from there!

    Rock on !!!!! :laughing guy:

  5. This one is on the border line of 70's/80's but Jacob's Ladder is an easy vocal in comparison and would be a real crowd pleaser.

By-Tor isn't too bad, he could pull that off for sure.

I didn't include Permanent Waves but if you really want to count that one, then the whole album could be sung by him, no problem. And I support the performance of the whole album! :D

    That would be Immense!!

With Xanadu in full also obv ;)

Uh, Xanadu is off of AFTK, not Permanent Waves... but I agree it should be done in full! Actually I want an extended intro. Let Lerxst go off for a little bit.

Sorry I should have said with Xanadu in addition to PeW just to clear up any confusion that I didn't know what album Xanadu was on ;)

    Perish the thought!!

    :rush:

But I think we are in agreement of what needs to be played

    Yes! :D

    In the Mood

    Panacea and Bacchus Plateau!

    Tears?

    Closer to the Heart

    Full Xanadu

    Full Permanent Waves album! :)

    Everyone agree?

That would do me fine :)

  8. I thought Signals was an excellent album at the time (and still do) the only track on it back then I didn't really get on with was Chemistry.

Thought Countdown was decent enough to buy the shaped picture disc of (or was it because it was a picture disc of the space shuttle ;) )

The Signals tour was also immense.

P/G on the other hand, total change in direction imo, I remember the first time i put that piece of vinyl on.

Gutted really is all I can say :|

I have "grown" to like it over the years but at the time it was a massive disappointment to me, like others all I could compare it to were the Police etc

Totally not what I was expecting as a follow up from Signals

Also like others i was listening to a lot of early 80s Synth stuff like Ultravox, John Foxx, Japan, Simple Minds etc so it wasn't just a case of "too much synth" for me.

Wasn't it also the first non Terry Brown Album? Just a thought

  9. I thought Signals was a great mix of the old and the new and still is one of my favorite albums to this day (amazing live)

When I listened to GUP for the first time I was dissapointed by the general sound and I kind of knew at that time it was the beginning of the end of my love affair with Rush

I stuck through it as you do with a relationship but it just got worse and worse for me, when you go to a show and are only really enjoying the encore?!

    Its time to leave.

Made it to the RTB tour before that actually happened

I listen to GUP now and enjoy most of the tracks on it but have tried to listen to PoW and HYF but just cannot get into them even now bar one or two tracks

I think its great you held on so long. Did they ever get better for you later on in their career?

What do you think of Vapor Trails, Snakes and Arrows and Clockwork Angels?

Yes I like Vapor Trails & Snakes and Arrows and that got me back to going to see them live again in 2007.

I was a bit apprehensive as were a few friends I went with that hadnt been to see them in years either but I had heard R30 was great (missed that one, damn) and we all had a great time and I have been going to the tours since then, twice for the Time Machine tour London/Rotterdam.

Now CA I do think is an excellent album but I just cant get on with the sound of it, I think the production/master just makes it sound a bit dull or muddy as I have heard said before and I know it cant be the tracks as they sound immense live and very powerful.

Im still getting into CA even now but just cant get as excited about it as it seems the rest of the planet has.

  11. I have all the studio albums and a few singles & 12"s up to RTB on vinyl, stopped buying Rush altogether at that point until VT and then only on CD.

I wouldnt mind hearing the MFSL PW on Vinyl, I have the MFSL cds but would love to hear the vinyl version on a good setup.

  12. Ziggo is a bigger than Ahoy, think it's 14k compared to 9k, don't have the exact numbers. And that's why 2nd ring was closed (like I predicted that in topic when euro dates were announced). Sound was very good, less "echo" than Ahoy.

Facilities are all up to today's a standards. A nice venue, but I can't say it's waaaaay better than Ahoy.

    Sounds good to me!

Hopefully they will play there again someday and I will be there for sure this time!!

    :rush: :smoke: :rush:

Those photos are brilliant, some of them are truely outstanding!!

Wow, thanks for the compliment!

    You are very welcome :)

Good venue. Loved the A'dam show. Only issue was the smoking area. A room, maybe 30 m², for thousands of people. Good thing was you just needed to inhale, without really smoking. :smoke:

Thanks for the info Greyfriar, I probably should have made the effort to go.

The smoking arrangements sound alright to me :smoke:

  13. I listen to everything up to GUP and then there is a BIG gap until VT

The Roll the Bones tour was when I decided to stop going to see Rush as I only enjoyed the encore!!

I didnt go to see them again until S&A but was glad I did.

I Dont hate any of the albums, just dont listen to them, they do nothing for me

  14. Not so many reactions to my normal Rush tour Tees

Although the Nebbish Guinness T-Shirt has been getting some attention but i think its because people at first glance think its just a Guinness T-Shirt but then they realise it isnt and have to start reading it!!

As for the GeFilter Tshirt- Nothing!!

I suppose you would really have to know about that one though

And when I leave I don't what I'm hoping to find
And when I leave I don't know what I'm leaving behind.

    Couldnt agree more!!

but you have to include the rest of it

Too many hands on my time

    Too many feelings ---

Too many things on my mind

    When I leave I don't know

    What I'm hoping to find

    When I leave I don't know

    What I'm leaving behind...

    and what about

    Quick to judge,

    Quick to anger,

    Slow to understand

    Ignorance and prejudice

And fear walk hand in hand.
