  1. The math is easy on this one ... The current tour will not be done until May or June. Then there will be a break for the band. Then they will finish Clockwork Angels ... so the album will likely be released around Xmas time in 2011. Then a springtime tour hitting all the outdoor amphitheaters in 2012. Is it just me or is the summer of 2012 the perfect time to bring back side one of 2112 in its entirety?
  2. QUOTE (MCM @ Nov 30 2010, 08:42 PM) If you're in Pittsburgh, just go to Hershey. It's an easy drive down the turnpike ... I'd rather drive to Hershey than Cleveland. Isn't it twice as far to Hershey than Cleveland? I'd much rather drive only two hours to get there than four. (?)
  3. Well, you have done it to me ... I now officially have "Vital Signs" stuck in my head today.
  4. With no repeat stops for Pittsburgh slotted, it appears that Rush is going to Cleveland. That is just two hours away, and the show is in April so snow should not be a factor. I think I am due for my first road trip to Cleveland. Their "Q Arena" looks very nice.
  5. For me, I first saw Rush on the Moving Pictures tour, then again (from the front row) on Presto. I found both concerts disappointing for different reasons. To me, Rush was one of my favorite bands for sure, but was not a great live act. It was not until the Test For Echo tour where I was tempted to go see see them again where they were featuring "an evening with Rush": (a) no opening act, (b ) three-hour set, (c ) themed humorous videos, and (d) an intermission. I found this tour immensely more entertaining than when I saw them previously, and was lucky enough to see them twice (on both legs of the tour). Since TFE, I have seen them on each subsequent tour. Also since that TFE tour, the band has stayed with the above "an evening with Rush" formula. It makes for such an entertaining concert, I think I would be very disappointed if they departed from this massively successful recipe.
  6. QUOTE (Rushchick10 @ Nov 15 2010, 01:12 PM)There's speculation (but no real "official" word) that there will be North American dates ... Sounds promising... It does not sound promising at all for me. I bet the likelihood of them coming back to a city they already played is near zero. I am in Pttsburgh, PA now ... and I know the only "ghost of a chance" for them to come back on another Time Machine Tour leg here would be to play an outdoor amphitheater show. It would be awesome ... but it is far from "promising".
  7. Pittsburgh pre-sale: Paid $40 ea for x2 tickets first row on the second tier, just to the side of Geddy. Quite close, no one in front of us, and a great vantage point of the show. I'll take that deal all day long ... In 2002/3, while on vacation we got to see Rush at the large oudoor amphitheater outside of Boston. There was a radio promotion for reserved seats (not even lawn) for only $9.99 ea. What a great deal. Wait - it gets better. There were a bunch of pot and cig smokers around us which was killing my wife who has asthma. I talk to the usher, and she takes us out of our way-in-the-back seats and takes us to "handicapped section" near the front. We were the only ones in the section with endless room. That was awesoooooome.
  8. You know you are not a Rush fan when you go to see Rush on the Permanent Waves tour just to see the opening act (.38 Special) and LEAVE before Rush even comes on to beat the traffic. (true story -- I know people who did this) You know you are not a Rush fan when you complain their concert is too long. (I think we all know people who said that)
  9. QUOTE (shaun3701 @ Oct 17 2010, 03:19 PM)QUOTE (ColdFireYYZ @ Oct 17 2010, 02:53 PM) My least favorite song to hear live was 2112 Overture/Temple. Either play it all or none. They've been playing it that way on almost every tour since the 70s. The only time they played the whole thing was in 96-97 for the Test for Echo tour. Rush opened with the entire 2112 suite from the 2112 tour through to Permanent Waves. The Moving Pictures tour was the first tour where they started shortening it to just Overture/Temples. My thoughts about Rush: 1) I am always a little worried about Geddy's voice. Since Test For Echo, I would assess he has not been all there. He has managed it well, though ... singing especially good on the Snakes & Arrows tour. For the recent Time Machine tour he definitely had a couple of off notes. I am not complaining, though ... I am just saying that it worries me. 2) Is it just me or is Rush's great songwriting is getting ... even better?? I love the two new songs, and have come to absolutely love S&A and Vapor Trails. 3) The "whole album" concept for touring is VERY popular these days by seemingly every older established act. That being the case, if Rush did this again, what album would they choose to do in its entirety?? Probably not 2112 because of the higher singing registers (see #1). Hmmm, that would make the logical contender A Farewell To Kings. Maybe Signals? How cool would that be?? 4) Everyone always wants to discuss ad infinitum why Rush has existed so long. Oy vey ... The answer to me is sooooo obvious. It is the SONGWRITING, stupid. That is why they are still going strong able to include new gems like Working Them Angels and Caravan into their current set so flawlessly. This makes the set fresh, unlike ... for example ... a Kiss concert.
