  1. They seem pretty adamant that they're looking into bringing older stuff back. Which I honestly don't think they've ever done. They've said one or two older songs, but not as much as they're supposedly saying this time.

    CwA

    Caravan

    BU2B

    Clockwork Angels

    The Anarchist

    Carnies

    Headlong Flight

    The Wreckers

    The Garden

    Older songs

    Prime Mover

    Nobody's Hero

    Manhattan Project

    Losing It

    Bravado

    Countdown

Mission (even though they just played it)

I honestly think "Losing It" and "Countdown" will be the furthest back they'll go, with the exception of the usual songs.

  2. This is my setlist 1.2 to take into account what I want to happen with the orchestra

    First Set (w/Orchestra)

    Clockwork Angels*

    Countdown

    Prime Mover

    Mission

    Losing It

    The Anarchist*

    Wish them Well*

    The Wreckers*

    Nobody's Hero

    Marathon

    The Garden*

    Second Set (No Orchestra)

    Caravan*

    BU2B*

    Seven Cities of Gold*

    Headlong Flight*

    Subdivisions

    Earthshine

    Secret Touch

    Malignant Narcissism

    -Drum Solo-

    Resist

    Halo Effect (acoustic)*

    2112

    Tom Sawyer

    YYZ

    The Spirit of Radio

    ----------------------------------

    Far Cry

    La Villa Strangiato

    Limelight

    *= new CwA song

I think they'll be on a two level riser behind Geddy, close to the side of the stage, so when they aren't needed to perform, they can sneak off.

I do think that to make it fair for the performers, they'll split it up. One set they'll use the strings, then the other set of the night they won't. That way they don't have to sit on stage all night long, when they're only needed for a few songs.

That would be pretty cool. Hopefully the lighting will just make them totally obscured when they are not playing. I hope that they have a multi level stage for the first time. Have Geddy and Alex on risers along with Neil on a higher riser so that the string Section is in a pit in the center!

    yes.gif

Just as long as front row is still front row and not pushed back ohmy.gif

I think it will be either that, or they will be on a small riser set up behind Geddy. I'd say behind Alex, but he has all his amps. They can afford to set people up behind Geddy cause he really won't be losing anything back there.

I'm also convinced that when they're not playing, they won't be on stage. The riser would be near the side of the stage so they can just sneak off when they aren't needed

  5. QUOTE (Ron2112 @ Jun 16 2012, 11:32 AM)
I don't think it's going to happen. For the sound dynamics to be right, Rush would have to turn way down. There's only so much you can amplify a string section before it starts to sound synthetic, and at that point, you might as well be using recorded samples in the first place.

I saw the Moody Blues do this and it sucked. In order for the orchestra to sounds right, the band had to turn way down. so during the songs, the audience had to be stone quiet. Even slight talking was audible. Horrible, horrible show.

You'd be surprised how much they actually wouldn't have to turn down.

    Ever heard of these guys?

There's a drummer, two guitar players, a bass player, two keyboard players, AND they have an 8 piece ensemble on the side. The orchestra is actually very loud and very clearly there.

Now imagine RUSH. Just 3 other guys on top of an 8 piece ensemble.

They could play the same volume as they always have. It wouldn't make a difference

  6. It seems that they're really adamant about bringing back old songs, that they've either never played or haven't played in a while. Good...maybe we won''t get the same songs again.

Nobody's Hero is the very first song I think they should consider. Since it actually has strings in it. And anything from the Power Windows, Hold Your Fire era. A few songs I can think of are: Marathon (duh), Mystic Rhythms, Manhattan Project, Prime Mover, Mission.

What I think they should do is this:

First set with the orchestra. All the CwA songs and other songs they want to use the orchestra for.

Second set without the orchestra. Your typical Rush rock show. All the heavy rock songs that definitely should not have an orchestra

  7. Amazing. Really unbelievable.

When it comes to the story, it's their best concept yet. I really enjoy it.

Personally, I think the album sounds like Test for Echo meets Vapor Trails meets Snakes and Arrows. The intro to "The Wreckers" alone sounds like something that would come off Test for Echo. And "Halo Effect" sounds like something that would be off S&A.

Favorites after the first spin: CwA, The Anarchist, Halo Effect, Seven Cities of Gold, The Garden.

It's awesome top to bottom, but those are my favorites right off the bat.

  8. I really like it lyrically, and I like the story that is told before the song. THe little blurb.

As often, I feel like this song was written for me. Which is what makes Neil such a great lyricist. He's so relatable. He may be writing about something he experienced, but so many people can read it and go "wow, this happend to me!"

  9. Far Cry

  10. I actually can see them placing a small string section (5-6 musicians max) on a riser behind Geddy, but only for the songs required.

I don't think they'll have string players playing with them for "Limelight" or "Tom Sawyer". That would be suicide for them.

But I personally feel that if they wanted to do an orchestra thing, do it in Toronto at Massey Hall with a real orchestra. Announce it ahead of time as a special one or two night thing, and sell tickets for that. Don't drag it on the road with you and make ALL your fans have to sit through it. Only make the people who want to pay to see it sit through it.

If they really wanted to do the orchestra thing big time, save it for another solo album or something. Don't make it a Rush thing.

Just don't let Alex make it "Victor II". That....I just don't know what I'd do if I saw that....

I actually would like to see them open the second set with the song "Clockwork Angels". I think it would make a great opening piece to get everyone back into it after the intermission. But I don't see it happening.

  12. Now here's a thought....have they ever played the last song off an album on that albums tour?

Cause I get the feeling based on the way they're talking about "The Garden" so much in interviews and press, that they're going to play it live.

Maybe as the first song in the encore. I can picture that, since it will have a "finishing" type feel to the song.

  13. Just heard it on the Facebook page.

I was blown away in the first minute. I was floored by what I was hearing. In my opinion, this song alone is the best thing they've done in the last 10 years, give or take maybe Far Cry and one or two other single songs.

This one song, plus Headlong Flight, makes me think that this is going to be one of those rock albums where there isn't a single bad song on the album.

All I have to say is, if this album comes out, and its generally considered amongst fans and critics as one of their best works ever...people who nit-pick at the album better have good reasons.

There's my prediction, with SEVEN new songs. That's all based on the way they've structured their setlist the last few tours.

I'm basing it mostly off S&A and the way they handled the new material on that tour.

I agree, we might get alot more new stuff than usual. But I'd say 6 or 7 tops.

I don't see it likely ALL of CA will get played. Thats an hours worth of music. Too much. CA would have to be the entire first half of the show.

But hey, if they're feeling up to it, I guess they'll do it if they feel they can.
