Wedding Nails is fantastic on the headphones. All kinds of little quirky sounds come through!

Another 11 pages. Noted that a lot of folks were excited about the release of Steve Wilson's Insurgentes (in the teen #'s of this thread). Insurgentes is both gorgeous and spooky at the same time! An incredible album. Looking forward to the 2 disc. DVD this Fall!

Catching up (slowly). Read the first 11 pages. Just finished listening to Drown With Me!
Be back tomorrow or the next day for more reading! Great thread!

QUOTE (RUSHHEAD666 @ Jun 5 2008, 11:45 AM) Wouldn't it be cool to have Porcupine Tree open for RUSH? -
QUOTE (Rush! @ May 24 2008, 06:29 PM) The Sky Moves Sideways is very psychedelic in nature. It also has a big prog feel to it. I highly recommend it if you're into that kind of thing. I think the record is comparable to Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here in a few ways. Agreed! Both are classics!

QUOTE (sullysue @ Apr 12 2008, 09:32 PM) Almost all of PT is depressing. I think Stupid Dream is one of their least depressing recordings. This band is somewhat of a working study in irony. The lyrics are really morose, but the music that accompanies those lyrics can be completely contrary to the message. "Piano Lessons" is a good example. Listen to that song and tell me that little Steven wasn't told that he wouldn't amount to anything as a musician by his piano teacher, but the music is "upbeat," for a lack of a better word. I guess that's why I love this band. It's so damned interesting to listen to. Excellent observation!

QUOTE (sullysue @ Apr 7 2008, 12:42 PM) in that you can hardly tell it's a live CD. The crowd noise is practically non-existent. Good quality, though, and of course the music is amazing. I was under the impression that Coma Divine's audience was filled with respect and awe, kind of like the British audiences of Led Zep that only clapped when the song was over.

QUOTE (Kudzu @ Apr 4 2008, 03:41 PM) if you aren't into meandering psychedelic explorations and space rock (closest comparison to a classic album I can think of, off the top of my head, would be Pink Floyd's Meddle. I like everything PT does from the pop sound of Piano Lessons, to the heavier songs (Futile), to the acoustic ones (Pure Narcotic), etc. But generally my favorites are the instrumentals like Up The Downstair, and space rock epics like Moonloop Improvisation. My 2 fave songs are Dark Matter and Arriving Somewhere.

QUOTE (ILSnwdog @ Apr 4 2008, 09:18 AM) And be patient with your friend. It took me a little while before I really had a grasp of FOABP and really started to appreciate PT. I don't think this is the kind of band where you experience love at first listen. PT was love at first listen for me! The first song I ever heard by them was FOABP (live in Finland, formerly on YouTube). I was totally blown away and have loved them ever since!

I saw the original when it first came out. It's been so long, I can barely remember what happened. I recently saw the remake and enjoyed it immensely. It was a fun movie!

I rediscovered a lot of the songs on Grace Under Pressure a couple of years ago. But I've always liked Red Lenses. It always brings a smile to my face!

It may simply be a matter of human psychology and personal preference. A song like Spirit of the Radio is a great way to kick start the excitement at the beginning of the show. But after 2 or 3 intense songs, it's nice to have a lighter song (Force Ten) and just take it all in.

Hatchet Ax Saw,
There's nothing like being at a RUSH show! That said, your experiences remind me that sometimes it's nice to stay at home and crank up the home theater instead!

QUOTE (LiquidSteel @ Aug 9 2010, 05:54 PM) The red dot is for when Alex screws up, it opens a trap door on the stage and then Alex is replaced by a robot. The green dot is for when Alex does right, and is rewarded with $$$ directly in to his bank account. -

Futile is an absolutely fantastic album!
I know I'm late to this thread, but for anyone who needs to know, PT's music, especially stuff like Futile and Recordings can be purchased here:

Addendum: although it would appear that Futile is presently unavailable at Burning Shed Records.

Does anyone know which album this version of "Disappear" is from? This version is 6+ minutes in length. The original is just over 3 minutes. I like both, but haven't been able to find any info on this one:

I purchased the Special Edition DVD/Blu Ray/CD of Anesthetize live in Tilburg. Simply amazing! A+ !

PT's Recordings is being re-released this fall:

I typically listen to prog rock, metal and classic rock. I rarely listen to pop rock. But I must say that two of the best pop rock singers I've listened to in the past two years are Adam Lambert and Ingrid Michaelson. Adam's got range and Michaelson's voice is filled with fun!

Boojze is doing a great job (both S&A and the Clockwork Angels EP)! But I would definitely love to see Mr. Wilson produce a RUSH album!
