The guy is guaranteeing parts and labor for 10 years (he says that's $500 of the quote). My duct work is intact. Is this price too high? Thx. What brand is it? My dad has worked in HVAC for 30+ years - he personally thinks Goodman and Trane are best value, not as big a fan of lennox.Do you have access to natural gas? Im assuming no since you are considering a heat pumpI think Goodman are the worst BTW but they are very popular. Trane is the best build and uses the best most reliable parts (relays, contactors etc.) in my opinion..... They need worked on all the time because they are cheaply built. I repaired so many over a 7 year period I couldn't tell ya. I don't understand why I needed a 3 ton unit for a single wide mobile home, when they only needed a 2.5 ton for an actual house. And I already have ductwork in place. Oh well. My dad says his is a Heil. I don't know what ours is, because I've been on the road all week. I know they didn't even replace the registers. Also, they hauled off the old unit and "a" coil evaporator, so I guess they sold it for scrap. Hell, I could have done that. No we don't have natural gas. I'm assuming that is cheaper and that is why you asked. I seriously doubt our electric bill goes down this winter. You say the equipment is only half the cost. Insulation, heat loss is typically much greater in those homes so they need to be "oversized" some to compensate. A Heil is a fine unit and if done properly should work out for you fine. I have installed many mobile home units and sometimes they are easy and fit nicely and sometimes not. Labor is not cheap in this specialty industry. If you have never had a heat pump before there are some things I need to prepare you for when heating season begins on how they operate and what to be aware of. If you flag me down with a "quote" or something I will notice your question or issue much quicker or just PM me to warn me. Sorry I was a day late with my response..... My wife did it for health reasons ans she didn't want that monthly visit anymore. She was in her early 30's as I recall. I don't think she has had hot flashes either that I am aware of and she is 53 at this point. One the flip side if your wife is as hot as you say she is and she still gives you some I wouldn't temp fate at all.
