No moshing here, but Kurt Cobain was having a good time

http://www.rushtrader.com/interviews/rushagora1s.gif

He's smelling the spirit of his left teen armpit

He worked up a sweat passin' down that garden road

If you do the math, Cobain was probably only about 6 years old when this gig happened

I just did a little research

I found this:

The pics are imbedded with 09/25/74 as the date and Columbus as the location

ok, edit: I see the heading for the pics .. Sept 25th 1974, Agora Ballroom, Columbus Ohio ... And there is some discussion regarding this below, as the Agora was in Cleveland ... but someone says there was an Agora in Columbus too ...

There was. It's now the Newport Music Hall. Been there many times. Very cool old building. Here's a virtual tour. Go up the stairs in the front hall to get into the concert area.

When rush was at their heaviest moshing was not commonplace at at rock shows imo.

I am talking the 70's and it seems the mosh pit grew from the punk influenced slam dancing.

So yeah. No mosh pits.

I agree with this. In fact, we called it thrashing. It wasn't until caught in a mosh came out that we started to hear people start saying mosh instead of thresh.

^^^^Also as the band's fans grew older one of the most brilliant decision the band made was having that intermission during their shows.

First.....it allowed fans to take that much needed bathroom break

Second.....it then allowed more fans to get MORE beer and time to chat about RUSH

Third......most importantly it allowed for fans to BUY MERCHANDISE.

So their just was no momentum for ANY thoughts of a mosh pit besides it just takes up way too much energy for us aging fans.

Egads, Geddy's pink pants and white platforms! Oh well, I suppose we all look back at photos of us from way back when and are amused/embarrassed.

Looks like Neil had an early fan. See the guy holding the drum stick, looking in Neil's direction?

Seen every tour since HYF. Have yet to see moshing. But, the HYF show was GA on the floor (Hampton Coliseum) with no seats. To my knowledge, every tour since Presto has had seating on the floor which makes moshing quite difficult. But Im guessing there has been some moshing at some point in the old GA floor days

I was at that Hampton show. The pushing on the floor was downright scary.

No. Festival seating hasn't been part of RUSH shows for a long time. There were plenty of early shows where things up front got dangerous.

No but I've never been to an amphitheater with a lawn that had seats.

Saw a mosh pit on the lawn at a Tool show in 1991 at Shoreline.

Would this happen at Rush? Probably not but it can happen.

According to Neil, it ain't gonna happen.

Frankly I don't think Rush is the kind of band you really mosh to.

Or dance to

Watch his every move, SUPERCONDUCTOR

Alex was so poor in those days that he only had two shirts. His second one was the one you see there turned inside out.

It looks like Neil wrapped tape around the bottom on his pant legs - I am assuming to prevent any interference with his drumming ...

That is awesome

Everything looks home made or borrowed from girlfriends ...

Ladies and gentlemen, rock and roll

"Kiss" is written on the wall for you Lucas.

As for "homemade or borrowed from girlfriends"...

Neil borrowed the tape from his dad's farm equipment dealership. And you can't see it but Geddy's wearing his gf's panties. Alex, again, was so poor that he could neither afford a girlfriend nor underwear. He borrowed Neil's dad's tape to cover his privates.

The only time I could see mosh pits at Rush concerts is in the early 70's when they were basically Canadian Zepplin, but I just can't picture such a thing in more recent years.

Awesome! I used to have a pair of bell bottoms just like Geddy's, in those photos. Mine were more lavender than light pink or whatever it is, but still...yeah. hahahahaha...
