Best Live Performance of a Song Compared to Its Recorded Version

Xanadu from ESL for me, hands down. I like the studio version, but this live version blows it away.

And in spite of its sound quality, I tend to gravitate towards Rio for a lot of cuts - Bravado, Driven, NatSci, and especially La VIlla.

Ghost of a Chance from Retrospective 3 as well .. I think that's from the S&A DVD?

I'm fond of this performance because Geddy bellowing "WAAAAAAAA-AAAAAA-AAAARGH!" as he does at around 3:46 is always a winner with me!

Jacob's Ladder R40. Any day I'd rather hear the live version from this tour.

Cooler still to see it. My view from all three shows I attended were as good or better than this.

I guess being the YBG Editor has its perks

I was standing right next to this guy when he filmed it in Seattle.

In front of me was Ben Cameron and Kim Thayil

Most songs sound better live then in the studio, honestly! The ones that stick out the most:

- By-Tor And The Snow Dog (Only full versions through 1977)

- Working Man (Only full versions through 1977)

- 2112 (From 1976-1978)

- Natural Science (Especially the Test For Echo versions)

- Xanadu (Mostly the intro sounds better live)

Most of them do sound better live.

The Xanadu intros are interesting to listen to in the late seventies and very early eighties. Some of them were very unique.
