I dont know if I feel guilty about it but High Water.

Neurotica

High Water is a great song! Neurotica on the other hand...

High Water is pretty good. I'm with you on Neurotica.

I'm with you two. Good High Water, bad Neurotica.

Ditto. Love High Water. Neurotica opens great, but the chorus,

Alien Shore. Very underrated, great bassline.

I like this song a lot and I have no guilt. What is this guilt crap? :wtf:

No guilt here either. In fact, it's my favorite off Counterparts.

It has a great groove.

Red Lenses is in my top 3 on GUP...I don't feel any guilt over it, though...even though the "majority" don't rate it

Really dig that as well.

 I've grown to like it more and more over the years.

Anything on Presto..... 1989-90 was a transitional time for me as a young father-husband moving my family to a new town and there's not a single note on that album I dislike.

With you, Cat!

I like it as well. Moreso than :scared: "Between the Wheels" ...

That's brave to say around here. Between the Wheels has some sort of cult status with Rush fans.

True. But it has never been a fav of mine, in the context of the album. The keyboards grate on me. I love it live, though. Edited by goose

What's a Rush song that gets a lot of hate that you secretly enjoy? For me it's Faithless. A lot of people seem to hate it but I really like it :)

For me, Superconductor.

I dig it! Love the break.

I like Lakeside Park, especially after reading an article that Neil wrote about working there. He said after work was over they would basically go drink by the lighthouse and smoke on the pier . . . :D Edited by blueschica

Very true. For me the "Whoah-oh..." is a bit of distraction.

If by "guilty" you are referring to liking songs that Rush fans generally think are not cool, I'll put in another vote for Dog Years.

I feel no guilt about any Rush song giving me pleasure!

I feel guilty about not liking something.

Well, that's not quite true. I don't feel guilty about not liking songs like Limelight, Fly By Night, In The Mood The Speed Of Love or Face Up.

You can't ruin my night and I won't try to talk you into liking it but I am curious if there is anything specific about it that you don't care for. To me it's a rare example of a song where Alex is the dominant force all the way through.

Wow. Thanks for the enlightenment.

All those times I've listened to Limelight and I've never noticed the "dominant force" part of it. I do prefer all three to be operating in sync with each other so that's something I hadn't considered. No wonder Alex likes it.

They just don't seem to be locked in as much as (and I'm just pulling this one out because it's the first song that comes to mind) say Bravado where it's just one orgasm after another between all three of them which improves geometrically live.. .Actually Bravado as an example may be a little unfair to Limelight. Substitute YYZ since it's on the same album. Same thing applies.

That said.

Part of it I'm sure is because I'm sick of hearing it and it never holds my attention the way other Rush songs do. (Even Tom Sawyer manages to do that.)

But it just isn't all that interesting to me. I get the lyrics and the message, but there isn't much more to interpret from them.

I also know it's Alex's favorite solo and I'm sure he has his reasons (which only he experienced) but for me it's kind of boring. I can think of dozens of solos I like better. (Grace Under Pressure alone has four or five.) Not really a fan of the multi-track approach to the guitar on this song either.

I just don't think it's a very dynamic song. (That may be a reason why it's a classic rock staple...I don't know.) If pushed, I think the outro is ok, but it looks even weaker when compared to the other three songs on that side of the album.

I'll admit it's fairly unusual not to like it but it just doesn't excite me the way almost all other Rush songs do.

So while I'll admit it's generally considered a "classic," it doesn't mean that I have to like it. It doesn't do a lot for me.
