Lame Song of the Day

oh geeesh ... c'mon now

Can we take it easy on The Carpenters ?

One of the greatest voices ever recorded.

But once again this isn't a thread to discuss stuff we like.

Plenty of lame songs sung bybthat voice. :)

"Every sha-la-la'la, every whoah-oh-oh still shines..."

I have to say I love her voice.

I can only play about five songs by them though. They are too one note for me. A whole album is extremely bland, and even blander than a lot of modern pop.

But her voice and grace I cannot deny. Beautiful woman whose struggles I know only to well (sadly the treatment and advice for anorexia sufferers today was not really on offer in her day).

:(

In the struggle that ultimately took her life, she helped bring anorexia into public discussion.

It is a shame it always seems to take tragedy for people to wake up and take notice.

She could still be with us.

My mum has bipolar and back in the seventies all the medical profffesionals who knew her wanted to lock her away.

I had amazing treatment growing up. I shudder when I think of all those poor individuals who suffered with the same pains we do today, especially considering this was not long ago at all.

Sorry I took this thread on a tangent again. But I have always felt a sense of kinship with Karen. I don't have to enjoy the music to love the performer.

Like you did Thrice?

I can't stand The Carpenters for the most part.

c'mon Segue, I simply said I didn't see the connection between Thrice and hardcore music ... I don't think I was hard on them, other than the fact that I don't care for them . .

I do love The Carpenters, but, as with most of my posts, the " take it easy" comment was said with a smile

For me, "lame" is a song that is trying to be something it is not - a band that is pretending .... The Carpenters were never that ,,

Tis cool.

And you must have heard a more recent song. The last four/five albums saw them move away from hardcore.

You wanna talk LAME ??

I heard "Spoonman" the other day at work ..

" spoonman, save me ... all my friends are Indians, all my friends are brown and red"

lol

I didn't know those tortured grungers had friends

.

.

They're talking about the Spoonman's friends, not their friends.

Also, the song is about an actual person.

I was gonna reply to this but couldn't be bothered.

Well done.

I love how people slate music when they don't have a clue what they are talking about!

I was surprised to find the guy had his own wikipedia page.

I remember when the song was released, they did a good job of mentioning that it was about a street performer in Seattle that the band knew.

Exactly.

I get so annoyed when people dismiss Soundgarden as "grunge". Had they emerged ten years before or after they would be remembered better as simply being an amazing metal band.

There it is already!!!

It will soon displace Segue from the #1 spot. Then, what will be do? Who will join? What will they think we talk about on here all the time???

In my best Casey Kasem voice, "moving up the charts three spots this week is Pubic Lice".

Segue, Spoonman was released in 1994, and while it is music is timeless, you take into consideration the atmosphere in music AT THAT TIME ..

You were what, like 2 or 3 years old ??

You cannot simply state "Had they emerged ten years before or after they would be remembered better as simply being an amazing metal band" ..

Soundgarden came about at that time because that is what was "in"

I saw it as pretentious and fake - the eye-rolling self importance of some of those bands was a turnoff ..

Spoonman is a joke

If you find sincerity in it, more power to you .. it was laughable then, and it hasn't aged well

It's no different than some upper-middle income white kid who "discovers" the blues and sings about being raised in a tar paper shack and picking cotton ..

Torn Between Two Lovers. Quite possibly the worst song ever penned.

It was pretty bad.

Corny lyrics. Perfect for KISS. :D

Don't kid yourself; the guy who's onstage in ripped-up jeans is wearing as much a costume as I am.
