Who were the first three prog bands you got into?

Recommended Posts

For me they were:

Yes

King Crimson

Genesis

I got into Rush and Pink Floyd just a little bit later but didn't know of their prog connection until later. This was in the mid eighties or so.

I can't remember when I first understood the term "prog" ( .. as if I even do now ), bt the first three would be:

- Yes

- Tangerine Dream

- Rush

Yes via my older sis, Tangerine Dream via Sorcerer soundtrack ( love that movie ) and Rush from Don Kirschner one unforgettable Saturday night in 1977

Rush was the first prog rock band I discovered. And then I found Marillion..and.... King Crimson. And then from there, I just discovered more and more prog rock.

Kansas (Leftoverture) was my first band, and it wasn't until Rush a few years later (P Waves) that I first heard the term "progressive rock." Genesis (Three Sides Live) soon followed.

Rush and Yes

A lot of bands I loved growing up had strong prog tendencies.

Are you a Fish guy or Hogarth? Looking forward to the next one:)))

Fish ofcourse, he is the real Marillion. The other guy killed Marillion. I have seen Fish live 3 times, last time he played whole Misplaced Childhood. And he is still awesome.
