Oh really? I'm happy to revisit later era REM. Didn't go down so well with me when I was younger, but hey! I once rated Monster dead last.

My local Wherehouse in a block I used to live in had many copies of that in the used section.  That more guitar rock oriented sound really divided people, didn't it?  Being friends with Kurt and the godfather of Frances Bean will do that to you.  He even officiated her wedding to Tony Hawk's son.  Could it be anymore of a 90s gen x wedding? *Chandler Bing voice*

Haha I had never thought of that! Monster is now one of my faves! To be honest their run of albums from Murmur to Adventures is very close to perfection. I will probably piss people off here but I regard REM as songwriters even more highly than I do The Beatles, as I've often considered them the US equivalent.

Agreed 100%! There are some good songs on the post-Berry albums (especially the last two IMO), but those first ten albums and Chronic Town are all damn near flawless

I stopped collecting CDs a few years ago to focus more on streaming and vinyl, and I sold a good chunk of my CDs to a record store over the weekend. I still have all 15 R.E.M. albums, plus Dead Letter Office (with Chronic Town as bonus tracks), and the single for What’s The Frequency, Kenneth.

They are an amazing band! I haven't been into them for a few years but I've revisited them recently and they are, still, as precious to me as Pearl Jam

Her music is wonderful! I think her having a rock and punk undercurrent to her music, as well as rather confessional lyrics plus humour, helps her stand out from all her peers. I've liked her for years. I now love her.

Am I the only one here that knows about Emma Ruth Rundle? She was a recent discovery for me and is now a major obsession. Wide range of genres, from heavy distorted electric black folk music to piano and vocals only. Acoustic here gives you a feel for her otherworldly voice.

some bands i've been gravitating towards lately

Chicago

Toto

New England (Obscure AOR/Pomp rock Band)

Boz Scaggs

I did a Taylor Swift run too.  i must say i'm not as into her as i used to be.  part is she won't stop.......ever, lol

the bigger part is i'm not thrilled with the direction she seems happy with but........that's life right?

Absolutely. No one can say you haven't given her a try!

But even she knows every album is a risk. She was convinced Midnights would flop.

The real question is what comes next for her? What do you do after putting on the biggest tour ever and all of your albums are the most successful albums in the world for at least a year straight?

I'd like her to release her final two Taylors Versions and go and enjoy her life for a couple of years.

I've not been into any bands, but I've been hooked on 80s pop playlists! I've been devouring the hit singles of that era, all genres.

The eighties was the best generation for music imo.

Push Th' Little Daisies is the only song I know by them. Been meaning to explore their work but haven't gotten around to it yet.
