JohnnyBlaze
I really liked it, but the more I thought about it... other than some cool fighting scenes, nothing really happened. The story wasn't advanced much at all It sets up for the next series of events. In the comics the team does fracture. The difference where the movie is concerned is that Cap isn't busting anyone out of superhero jail. And I liked that difference!...because it follows the comics up to a point but doesn't become a predictable copy of them. I hear you though. I think the story advanced in more subtle ways. Certain Avengers' romances, the Winter Soldier story, and how the world deals with the Avengers (and vice versa). Whether or not the Avengers are a cohesive unit and are regulated by a global government will definitely be tested when Thanos comes a callin'....... :o :oWell, we've got 5 more MCU flicks before Infinity War: Doc Strange, Thor "Ragnarok", Spidey "Homecoming", Guardians of the Galaxy part 2, and Black Panther. I can't imagine the Spidey story (a super kid in Queens) being too important for the Infinity War storyline but I'm sure Doc Strange & Thor will be. As an aside, given the title of "Ragnarok" and with Hulk in it (and presumably in Asgard), you just know big green's going to be murdering all kinds of gods and monsters. The Guardians flick will be somewhat important since they're already in space and already know of Thanos. The Panther flick will probably be very important since it'll be the last MCU flick before the Infinity War movie. The world governments/Cap fracturing the Avengers won't matter when Thanos comes into the picture. All of that will be forgotten in a few violent scenes + 5 minutes of dialogue. Uniting and all that stuff will happen quite easily so that they can get down to real business.

But it isn't officially cancelled either. A weird case of "Well we're not making the movie but we are not NOT ever making it. We're just not going to make it within the next few years". It's been stated that the Ant-Man & Wasp movie will likely feature meatier flashbacks of original Ant-Man & Wasp, Hank Pym & Janet Van Dyne. Sounds awesome to me. As for Captain Marvel, we'll just have to imagine what they're doing with her for now... http://blog.urbanoutfitters.com/files/captmarvelrosie.jpg http://www.hdmagazine.it/wp-content/uploads/ms-marvel-cosplay-520x782.jpg http://www.pixidols.com/public/images/pix/.Lily-ckjc-Capture_d__cran_2012-10-28___22.27.34_m.jpg http://dailycosplay.com/2013/January/10.jpg
Del_Duio
Saw it. Loved it. Overarching themes are heavy, yet the comic relief provided an oasis within the darkness. I havn't seen Winter Soldier, so I'm lacking in that department. Big Ant Man fan. That movie impressed me on several levels, mainly screenwriting. The Spiderman bit was great...they've found their guy there. When Giant Man appeared my kids went ape, and it was a charge. Wonder why? Black Panther on film is infinitely more interesting than on pulp. Certainly worthy of his own gig. Aunt May is hot BTW.You need to read more stuff on Panther since you're using the word "infinitely more interesting" here. I'd say he was very well done in the flick but there's a wealth of prime Panther interactions with other heroes AND doing his own thang in comics. The Spidey and Lang lines were spot on what they should've been. Totally agree with the great use of comic relief (though not overdone or forced) amidst the heavier main themes Hey Johnny, what was the significance of the 1st end credit scene? When Cap was telling Black Panther "thanks for keeping him here", and then they looked out to the jungle, was he talking about Bucky or was the hulk out in the weeds someplace :D Like all that just to show that panther statue? I mean we already knew he was the Black Panther so I didn't really get that scene I suppose. -- Oh and I totally forgot that Ant Man could turn into a giant, that and Spidey's reaction were probably the best part of the whole movie (which I liked very much and WAY WAY more than Age of Ultron, which I didn't think was all that great aside from The Vision). Then, it was as if the director told Michael Rooker to just portray Yondu as Merle Dixon from Walking Dead. To make it worse, they took comic book Yondu's signature item (the bow) and removed it altogether from the film [imagine never having Cap's shield in the movies]. I had trouble watching every scene he was in. Yondu isn't some scavenging redneck with gold teeth. He's closer to Spock than some good 'ol boy. Damn shame. I loved Yondue...books vs. Movie issueImagine watching a rebooted Avengers movie 40 years from now. In those 40 years, you read hundreds of Captain America and Avengers comics. In the rebooted movie in 2056, Cap throws a boomerang instead of a shield and is a redneck from Georgia, AND his personality is given a massive jolt + add gold teeth. Someone that hadn't known Cap might like him in the reboot but you having known what you've known for decades now see this new movie depiction. That's me seeing Yondu played by Michael Rooker. Hard to separate book from movie when it's THAT off. ALL the Marvel characters are "off" to some degree in the MCU but Yondu has been the biggest...embarrassing really. Still a really good, fun movie though. Edited May 11, 2016 by JohnnyBlaze

One comic/movie example in which there was a big difference between movie and its original source was Watchmen. IMHO, that's the greatest comic storyline of all time (easily top 10 novel storyline too). It's probably impossible to make a movie out of it that's give justice to that comic. Yeah, he was he best thing about Age of Ultron. [And my favorite Avenger of all time.]Del Duio, This is connected to your question about that 1st end credit scene: I just saw this again tonight and forgot that Cap left his shield on the ground after the the final Iron Man fight. But have no fear, Cap can actually get a replacement from Black Panther--> because vibranium, the material the shield is mostly made from, comes from the Panther's native land. Since we saw that the two were buddies in the first end credit scene, making another shield wouldn't be an issue. Plus, it was actually done in the comics (with the Panther doing so). Not saying they'll do that BUT the option is definitely there. Marvel's good that way.
