Queen, Dragon Attack, oh yeahh. nothing to do with metal probably, just popped in my mind (or whatever it is i have)

by the way, Rush are about as metal as Cheap Trick :)

mann, Brian May was awesome. only rock guitarist i'd put in same bracket as Al in the imagination department.

Me too.

Queen II-Ogre Battle.

more metal then anything Rush ever did.

What a track

Mick

The problem with the world is that everyone does not have a brain, but everyone does have an opinion.

Whats your excuse?

My excuse for you?

Genetic defect? Inbreeding?

You are the one who's British!!

;)

I'm half Italian and halfwit.

Rush being post-apocalyptic progressive punk?

So now Queen is metal too.

Honestly, you don't deserve to be a Rush fan if you think Rush is heavy metal.

Get the f**k out already. :)

What a waste of skin you are.

You obviously haven't read his reviews on the prog archives website.

He knows, and loves, his prog.

I voted for the some songs but overall no option.

I will pass on reading through 13 pages of posting, so pardon me if this has already been pointed out, but I believe that in "Contents under Pressure" Alex says something like "We don't see ourselves as metal. Perhaps a bit metalish as Heavy Metal can be a glorious raw medium to work in on occasion, but overall we see ourselves as progressive hard rock"

I think it was Alex who said that (or something close to it). I definitely recall the phrase "glorious raw medium".

Anyway, I have to agree with Alex's point.

Sorry if this has already been said, I didn't read this whole thread (as interesting as it was,) but I think it depends on the timeframe. For example: I don't think you'll find anything heavier than "Anthem" from 1975. Parts of "Moving Pictures" were very heavy for '81. I personally don't believe anything they've done since could be considered heavy metal. But I grew up at a time when Maiden, Metallica, and Megadeth were about as heavy as it got. (Megadeth really has a little prog mixed in some of their albums, by the way.) Kids these days that think the singer has to sound like he's getting a prostate exam from Freddy Krueger wouldn't think any of the above are "metal."

LOL. Anyone who thinks Rush is metal, has no business archiving prog websites.

Would you define Metallica as metal Mr Bard?

Some people here "cough" bard"cough" are missing the point....

Metal is a state of mind, an indefinable quality of je nes sai quai, rather than a specific sound.

That is why, even in the middle of HYF, Rush are undoubtedly METAL!!!!

But are they 70s metal, heavy metal, thrash metal, death metal, nu metal, symphonic metal, black metal, prog metal, doom, metalcore?

None of the above are METAL

Again. Rush is not a Metal band. The influence on Metal however cant even be charted. 2112 Grand Finale is heavy as f**k. Mistrust anyone who tries to tell you that shit aint metal.

I'm no expert on Rush.

One need not be an expert on Rush to know such base reflections about hard rock in general.

What fools these mortals be.

Fanboys are the worst. Blind idolatry.

However...Rush is of course whatever you kiddies want it to be. I'm sure that's the way Ged, Al, and Neil would want you to have it. Take 'em however you like, if it rawks in certain shades of rose, super duper flooper. :)

So if Rush is metal for you, then that's all right.

Heck, I'm sure Rush is Dixieland Delta blues jazz for some people. :)

Totally agree. Not only that, I would go further and say all of 2112 (the song) is metal, as is Something 4 Nothing, By-Tor, Anthem & Bastille Day. After that the metal songs are much fewer. But you can hear the influence (and Rush's influence on metal). But overall - I agree Rush is not metal

Interesting how anyone with a different opinion than yourself is a "fanboy" despite posting histories manifestly displaying the opposite.....

You don't even seem aware when people are just having a bit of fun with a subject, and it's pretty obvious your irony and sarcasm metres have been bypassed.

Oh, and posting text in your dialect only serves to make you look like a moron.
