g under p
Does anyone find it odd that with major rock bands that HIT commercial success with an album.....that album is not liked or outright disliked as earlier albums? Why is that? Bands such as RUSH, Def Lep, Megadeth, Mettalica etc. From MP-RUSH, Hysteria-DLep, Countdown To Extinction-Megadeth, Black-Metallica.....those commercial successes I all liked when looking at the bands complete album catalog. I liked them all mainly because these bands can't or it's not best to repeat what got their fans attention in the beginning. Bands need to challenge themselves and shoot for that album that can gets them that commercial success. Segue Myles
Def Lep died when Steve Clark did. All the other music is a blight on his good name. THIS 1. Have You Ever Needed Someone So Bad2. Let's Get Rocked3. Paper Sun4. Rock On (One of the best covers ever)5. Pretty much everything on the latest album. I'm right, you're wrong. Next? You aren't right. RUSHHEAD666
Ok this is really strange. LADY STRANGE! LOL! I swear to you. I just put on "On Through The Night" and "High N Dry" tonight. Those albums are going to be played! I love Def Leppard. But after "Adrenalize" the fukking SUCK ASS. That human tit Vivian Campbell ruined the band. Joe Elliott's voice is shot to hell. Just like his fuckking brain. He made a comment saying that he never thought Def Leppard was a hard rock band. More of a glam pop rock band. Fuckking idiot. I saw their new tour dates. I'm not going. Fukking TESLA a band that was awesome. Now shite. REO SPEEDWAGON? A great band twenty years ago. Do you see a trend here folks? These three bands were great back in the EIGHTIES. I wouldn't pay a wooden nickel to see these hack bands of now. Perhaps at an Indian Casino so I can get drunk and gamble. Oh well what the fukk do I know about music? Funny. I just typed "wooden nickel." Styx is with Def too. Styx was on the Wooden Nickel Label when they were just starting out. Bringin' On The Heartache! Story of my life. At least be honest and say "I like them" instead of maintaining that you LOVE them when you clearly don't. There is clearly a difference between liking something and loving something. Fukking TESLA a band that was awesome. Now shite. REO SPEEDWAGON? A great band twenty years ago. Do you see a trend here folks? These three bands were great back in the EIGHTIES. Styx is with Def too. I first got into DL when Pyromania came out & it blew my mind!! Loved it & still do. Then I went back & got High N Dry and On Through The Night. With High N Dry I was like - OMG, this is like Pyromania, just more raw, less polished and more energy. Every bit as good - just in different way. Loved it & still do. With On Through The Night I was like - this is good but not special. its good, but nothing like Hight N Dry & Pyromania. I don't agree with Earl that Vivian ruined the band. They were already going in that direction by the time he joined them. Hysteria has some good songs but is weak when compared to the greatness before it. The group made a decision to go in a certain direction, a decision that (IMO) was pushed along by (1) Mutt Lange and his influence as producer of their albums & (2) Rick Allen losing an arm. He was no Neil Peart / Keith Moon when he had 2 arms and with one, forget about it. I give the group a ton of credit for keeping him, not tossing him away and working with him to keep him in the band but having a hard rock / metal band (and DL was metal, in their first 3 albums!!!) with half a drummer is like having a fancy sports car with a 1 cylinder engine. It might look nice but it anint going to do much. Forget any sort of "Zero to 60 in XXX seconds flat". That's not happening. So without a strong engine you have do remodel the car. Thats what DL did with Hysteria and was doing with Adrenalize when Viv joined. Truth is, I hoped Viv would put something back into the band. Rev it up again. Esp. given what the 3 albums with Dio had been like. But nope, He just joined a sinking ship. I do agree with Earl that Joe's voice is shot however. Still, I might chance seeing them. Seen them a # of times in recent years and the shows were all great (Heart opened once & Poison opened the other 2 times - all the bands rocked). I agree Tesla was great - saw them with DL on the Hysteria tour and they were great as an opener. Saw them as a headliner a few years latter and the opening act, Firehouse, put on amazing show and blew them off the stage. Have not seen them since. But if Tesla is opening with REO (who I have seen multiple times in recent years and they have been great) & DL - I will try to see it. Seen Styx several times in recent years and they rocked as well. For those kinds of line ups - count me in. One last story - a friend of mine is a limo driver and has driven a ton of bands to SPAC through the years. He told me that the nicest band he ever drove was REO - they tipped great, invited him back to a backstage party - their were just great guys.
catherine
You make some good points I hadn't really considered about the change in direction having to do somewhat with Rick. I assumed Matt Lange in the equation and that's probably right on the money.
Rick N. Backer
I got into them when On Through the Night came out. I really like it. But High N Dry and Pyromania are their apex, no doubt. Half of Hysteria is great, half of it showed what was coming. There's some good tunes on Adrenalize. After that, meh. But nothing approaches HND and Pyromania. I saw them on the Pyromania tour. Phenomenal show.
Blue Barchetta
My 2 cents: High N' Dry and Pyromania were freaking awesome rock albums...I mean next to anyone! They began leaning toward the poppier side after that. But they can still play their great songs well, which makes a Lep show worth the price of admission. Very underrated track..."DieHard the Hunter." Musicianship out the wazoo.

Rick lost his arm over 30 years ago and I'm sure he's heard every comment and wise ass remark about it. I'm guessing none of that bothers him anymore, so it shouldn't bother you.
