It's just the way the bassline begins really. i was just in the kitchen and I suddenly heard the Rage in my head and then it suddenly turned into Hatesong!

I definitely hear the similarity. Unfortunately, Steven Wilson's purposefully annoying/whining vocals stop me from enjoying Porcupine Tree and his solo work. Believe me, I've tried really hard to like them.
