I, I will be king

And you, you will be queen

Though nothing, will drive them away

We can beat them, just for one day

We can be heroes, just for one day

There will never be another Thin White Duke. :( :rose:

Not a fan and although I don't take pleasure in people dying, sort of 'meh' for me. While I admire him for keeping his illness under wraps, I'm cynical that his latest album is released about the same time that he died. Somewhere, somebody had the idea of 'hey this should sell well if...'.

I don't think this is the case. I think Bowie wanted to pass doing that he does. I just listened to Blackstar and I really think it was meant as a sincere swan song.

I couldn't agree with you more.

He was creative right until the very end. Impeccable at his craft. His influence expanded into modern culture.

Thank you for giving us Stevie Ray Vaughn!

Here's some SRV with David Bowie

This really reminds me of the way Freddie Mercury died. The new album released shortly before his death, the secrecy regarding his terminal illness, the swan song nature of the album, I think Bowie wanted to go out similarly to Freddie.

I understand what you are saying, but I don't think he intentionally intended the similarities to Freddie at all.

Any similarity is coincidence.

I thought it was too. To each his own and all, but the insinuation about album sales was definitely not necessary.

This is no insinuation (since I smoke) but I've been wanting to ask - was David a smoker?

Yes, I'm pretty sure. I think it was lung cancer.

I posted this just now in bowie thread, but meant it for the rip thread. Excuse the copy pasta..

13 PM

I guess one memory that always stuck out to me were his early SNL appearances. Many of us can recall just how out there those were. I remember seeing them going, what in the world is this. It truly was something to see.

I think the first album i owned was ziggy, but cant remember for sure.

My favorite songs are cat people (putting out fire) and TVC 15 .

I guess Im not as huge a fan as many on here but a fan still.

I always thought to myself here is an artist who does what he feels. Never scared to buck the trend and try something different.

As i said in my first post, thanks for the memories man

Just remembered - didn't he sing The Little Drummer Boy or some Christmas song with Bing Crosby? Or am I thinking of someone else?

Pretty sure it was white christmas with bing

I heard it was liver cancer.

Yes, he smoked like a chimney but it appears to have been liver cancer he was suffering from. The same as Mick Ronson tragically enough...
