Great Opening Scenes

Geez, I'm dating myself but here goes-

- Opening scene of Jaws was so scary, when the girl is skinny dipping and gets attacked and John Williams' music is so foreboding

- Beginning of Saturday Night Fever, when John Travolta is just walking through Brooklyn, carrying a can of paint, but it is so perfectly choreographed to "Stayin' Alive"

- Beginning of Four Weddings and a Funeral, where Hugh Grant and his sister wake up late for their friend's wedding and let loose a bunch of F bombs and the classic "f**kety f**k, always makes me laugh so hard

My favorite is the opening scene to Raising Arizona, goes on nearly twenty minutes before the title hits.

Also, with a completely different vibe, is the opening scene of Prometheus.

Hahaha! Loved FWaaF. That opening scene is classic. I remember taking my mom to see that and her comment was "well the movie would have been good except for all the swearing at the beginning". I thought that was one of the best parts.

Big Lebowski along the same lines...

"Sometimes theres a man...hes the man of his time and place. He fits right in there "

Rolling along with the tumbling tumbleweeds

Not the opening, but it is the greatest sci-fi flick ever.

Oops, shit, in my mind it was the opening. :smoke: Sorry, haven't seen it in over 20 years. :codger:

Here's one of my all time favourite sci-fi movies.
